BAY CITY, MI — A 19-year-old Bay City man faces two criminal charges after police allege he was caught on camera smearing his feces on a local church’s door and masturbating on the church's steps.
In the summer of 2013, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office received a report that someone was going to New Hope Baptist Church, 3360 E. Midland Road in Bangor Township, during nighttime hours and smearing feces on a door, court records show. On Nov. 22, a property manager for the church dropped off to deputies a feces-stained sock and a DVD containing surveillance camera footage, court records show.
The video was shot around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and depicts a person approaching the church’s south door on a bicycle. The man squats near the door and appears to defecate, then puts socks on his hands, picks up the feces and rubs it on the door and its handle, court records show.
The man then removes the socks from his hands, tosses them aside and retrieves a magazine from his bicycle, the video shows. The man then sits on the stairs near the door and appears to masturbate before fleeing on his bike, court records show.
The property manager who dropped off the sock and DVD to police theorized the culprit to be Joshua A. Gorski.
A few days later, a deputy interviewed Gorski. When asked about the last time he went to church, Gorski did not respond. The deputy told him the incident was caught on camera, and Gorski proceeded to apologize and said he had committed the offense, police allege.
The deputy alleges Gorski said he perpetrated the same actions at the church four to five times in 2013.
“He stated that he lives in an apartment with his mother and father and does not have enough privacy to do the things he wants,” the deputy wrote in his report, contained in court records.
Gorski was on probation at the time, having been sentenced to one year in August 2013 on charges of assaulting, resisting or obstructing police and minor in possession of alcohol.
Authorities issued a warrant for Gorski on Friday, Dec. 20. Bay County District Judge Mark E. Janer on Monday, Dec. 23, arraigned Gorski on single counts of aggravated indecent exposure, a two-year high-court misdemeanor, and malicious destruction of a building less than $200, a 93-day misdemeanor.
Gorski is to appear for a preliminary examination before Janer at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6. He is in custody at the Bay County Jail as of Monday, Dec. 30.
