In northern Saskatchewan, where I had the misfortune of living for about 8 months when I was 7, they didn't close the schools at 48 below until the doors iced over!

The snot in your nostrils would freeze...your breath would crystallise.

The coldest it got for me was 52 below and then they closed the school. The very air you breathe starts to crystallise then if you have a wind chill on top of that.

At that point, the police drove around town and got on their P.A. and said for people to go home A.S.A.P. as there was an ice storm coming. God knows how cold it got in the night. We al huddled together in 1 bed that night. My dad thankfully moved on after the weather got "better" at 10 below freezing.
