Are you complaining of cold? Try to visit the Oimyakon settlement where January temperature may remain below 50С (-58°) for weeks. The lowest temperature in the history of this place was equal to -71.2С (-96°)! Oimyakon is inhabited by 500 people and it used to be the place where deer breeders used to stay for some time. In the Soviet years there was made an attempt to take control over the nomads, who were considered wild, the settlement appeared as a result of that attempt.

I saw a short news report about this place a few years ago. One of the residents said they never turn their cars off during the winter because they might not start again.

worst we've had this year was -41C with the wind chill...

I drove home from work that night with the heater, defroster cranked and 75 minutes later, my new car was still so cold my hands were sticking to the steering wheel (because I don't wear gloves cuz I'm not a pussy....or very smart either)

It was like that in N. Saskatchewan. The RCMP never shut their cars off. And you didn't shut it off when refuelling.

It got to around 50 below....I walked out in it at 48 below, and it was hard to breathe!

Another fact...a lot of Canadian new cars are equipped with a block heater...my van has one and I hope I never use it!

It's installed by law in our province Noilly...246 dollar option that doesn't work very well if you don't have a place to plug it in
