Actor Dave Madden, best known as band manager Reuben Kincaid on the 1970s sitcom "The Partridge Family," has died.

Madden, 82, died Thursday (Jan. 16) after a long illness, TMZ reports.

Madden played the harried manager of the Partridge Family on the ABC series, which ran from 1970-74. Prior to that, he was a regular performer on "Laugh-In," and he followed his "Partridge" stint with a semi-regular role on "Alice" and a host of TV guest appearances.

His death came on the same day as that of another classic-sitcom star, Russell Johnson of "Gilligan's Island."

Below, watch the first half of the "Partridge Family" pilot episode; Madden's first appearance comes around the 9-minute mark. Also, take a listen to "The Ballad of Reuben Kincaid" by indie band The Moses Gun.

He had that moving-his-whole-hairline-when-he-was troubled thing that was cool to me as a 6 year old.

Funny guy - not many comedians can compete with a room full of children stealing the show.
