A 52-year-old California man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to repeatedly raping and brutally controlling a young female relative for 14 years.

Raul Ochoa of Richmond is accused of keeping the unnamed girl as a sex slave between 1998, when she was 12, until she escaped in August 2012.

As reported by the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa deputy district attorney Ryan Wagner said: 'Basically, her entire childhood was more or less stolen from her.'

Ochoa sexually abused the girl in a plywood shed in the backyard, which she helped to build in the years before the abuse started.

'He convinced her it was going to be a place to watch movies together and a place for the family to hang out, but it turned into something much worse,' Wagner said.

He is accused of repeatedly raping the girl in shed, stopping her from leaving the house and checking her cellphone.

On Wednesday afternoon, he pleaded guilty to one count of forced lewd acts on a child and two counts of forcible rape.

Ochoa will get 22 years in prison as part of the deal and will be formally sentenced on February 12.

'What this guy did to her for that long of a period of time was as horrific as I've seen,' Wagner said.

'She's an extremely courageous and strong woman,' the attorney added. 'She was basically under emotional, physical and psychological abuse her entire childhood.'

On August 16 2012, she told her captor that she was going to a restroom and ran from the home. She was taken to Richmond Police Station by a waiting car.

Her siblings had reportedly convinced her to escape.

Richmond Police were initially confused by the now 27-year-old woman who said she was a runaway by Ochoa was arrested soon after.

During the ordeal, Ochoa reportedly made the girl work for his landscaping business and home-schooled her.

'She felt she couldn't leave, and he would threaten that he would harm her or harm himself if she left,' the prosecutor said.

On on occasion when the girl returned from a dance Ochoa threw away her dress and told her she could never go to another one.

Wagner said both the girl and Ochoa's wife were put through 'significant violence' by him. It's not known if his wife and other children in the house knew the extent of the abuse.

'The wife was scared to death of him,' prosecutor Wagner said.

The Mercury News reported that Ochoa asked his wife if he could have sex with the girl years before the abuse started. When she refused, he apparently said that he was 'just joking.'
