Winter Olympic betting: Norway huge favorite to win most Sochi gold medals

When you think of the world's power sporting nations, Norway does not immediately spring to mind.

But at the Winter Olympics, Norway is always among the global leaders and they are the big betting favorite to win more gold medals at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics than any other country.

SportsInteraction.com made the Norwegians even money to leave Sochi with the most gold medals, well ahead of the host Russians, who are +313 a week before the Games open.

Team USA is the third betting choice (+373 means betting $100 would pay out a $373 profit) and Team Canada is fifth at +562. The Top 5 Olympic betting picks is rounded out by Germany at +458.

Olympic hockey betting will be the biggest ticket item on the odds menu (see the full Sochi schedule infographic courtesy of SportsInteraction) but Alpine Skiing, speed skating, curling and other events on the Olympic wagering menus.

Norway was listed at +167 just a few weeks ago, so the fact they have moved up to +100 indicates how strong their team will be.

What is the name of that newer alpine event, where it's like a mogul run crossed with a short downhill course?

I loved that one in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics

The skiing events (both genders) at Sochi are called downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom, Slalom, and Combined.

Freestyle events include Aerials, Half pipe, Moguls, Ski Cross, and Slopestyle (which is brand new).

So I think you're thinking of freestyle ski cross.

may be part of the combined or freestyle...

it's the event where 4 people line up and start together, hit moguls instantly and the whole thing is about speed. There's some longer portions with turns as well.
