Most kids dread going to middle school as it’s usually filled with awkward moments that everyone talks about for weeks, but nothing could prepare this 14 year-old girl from Maine for what happened next.

Sometime during class, her iPhone 5C caught on fire in her pants.

She suffered second degree burns on her back and leg. Her classmates got her to stop, drop, and roll to put the flames out. The phone dropped out from her back pocket and hit the floor — the phone was no longer its vibrant green, but a charred melted black.

She promptly removed her pants in the classroom with the help of her females classmates.

This is the first report of the newer and less expensive iPhone 5C causing a fire, but certainly not the first iPhone to cause harm to people.

Possible reasons for this phone fire could be the lithium-ion batteries that are used. However, it is not too clear if this is a universal problem. Chances are it’s an isolated incident.

But just to be safe, don’t keep your phone in your back pocket. Or anywhere on your body for that matter. Share this post so people know to be careful!

Yes, just leave it at home, if you need to make a call you can do it when you get there
