An Akron man, apparently frustrated over a check still in the mail, attacked a postal worker making his daily rounds, squirting the carrier with pepper spray before biting him in the leg, police said.

Robert Kiefer, 25, was arrested Saturday on charges he assaulted the 56-year-old postal worker and then fought with Akron police officers who were called to the scene.

According to the police report, officers found Kiefer and the postman embroiled in a fight in the intersection of Kling and East Thornton streets around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say they arrived to find a small crowd surrounding the two fighting men.

Kiefer, police said, resisted efforts to stop fighting and also fought with an officer trying to handcuff him. Police eventually sprayed Kiefer with pepper spray and subdued him, the report shows.

The postal worker told police that Kiefer became angry after being told he did not have a check that the resident was expecting to be delivered to his Conmore Court home.

Police said Kiefer grabbed the postal worker’s pepper spray and attacked him, squirting him in the eyes with the chemical. The two men then started wrestling in the street, and the postal worker said Kiefer bit him three times in the leg during their fight. Paramedics treated the postal worker at the scene for bite marks and cuts to his knee, police said.

Kiefer was arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault and resisting arrest. He remained in the Summit County Jail after being unable to post $1,000 bond set Monday in Akron Municipal Court. He is due in court Feb. 21 for a pretrial hearing.

Judging from the picture, the gene pool was pretty thin or needed more mixing that day.

I'd be getting antibiotics and maybe a rabies shot after being bitten by him.
