LINCOLNVILLE, SC (WCSC) -
A 76-year-old Lincolnville man, who shot and killed a robbery suspect outside of his home this past weekend, said this incident was not the first time he was victimized.
In a 911 call obtained by Live 5 News, the man told the dispatcher that he had been previously robbed.
The Charleston County Sheriff's office says the victim told them that another man tried to rob and stun him with a possible taser outside of his house along Dunmeyer Hill Road in Lincolnville just after 6 am Sunday. The suspect has since been identified as 25-year-old Robert Deziel of Summerville.
"I just shot somebody who was trying to rob me," the victim told a 911 dispatcher.
Once the deputies arrived on the scene, an incident report states they were met by the homeowner who told them he was leaving his home and walking towards his car when he was approached by the suspect who attempted to stun him with a stun gun or a taser.
"I shot about three times before I hit him because he had me on the ground trying to tase me. And I finally got one in him," the victim told a 911 dispatcher.
Deziel was found lying in front of the carport, and pronounced dead by EMS on scene. According to a sheriff's office spokesman, a stun gun was found at the scene.
The homeowner was taken to Trident Medical Hospital to be treated for injuries that he sustained during the incident. According to the incident report, it appeared that he 'was struck in the face'. The homeowner also had abrasions on his hands.
In the 911 call, the homeowner had said he was a robbery target another time, too.
No arrests have been made. The incident remains under investigation by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
