A man claiming to be a cereal-loving mascot was arrested for giving a false name to troopers when he was stopped in Newberry Township, state police say.

The man, who's real name is Robert Earl Nevins, told troopers his name is "Captain Crunch" when they stopped him for a traffic violation near milemarker 32 on Interstate 83 about 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to state police.

Nevins, of Baltimore, Md., refused to cooperate with troopers and was taken the state police barracks in Loganville so troopers could identify him, police said.

After learning Nevins is not Captain Crunch, a possible reference to a cereal of the similar name that has a Napoleon-style hat-wearing mascot named Cap'n Horatio Magellan Crunch, troopers charged him with false identification to law enforcement and disorderly conduct, police said.

He was taken to the county's central booking unit to be arraigned on the charges, police said.
