A 15-year-old has appeared in the Bunbury Magistrates Court charged over the assault of his month-old baby son, who is in a critical condition in Princess Margaret Hospital.
It is alleged the assault happened on Saturday night at Bunbury Regional Hospital.
The teenager has been charged with causing aggravated grievous bodily harm and he appeared via video link from Banksia Hill Detention Centre this afternoon.
His duty lawyer asked for a closed court but the magistrate rejected that request.
The court was told medical professionals are still assessing the baby.
The court case was adjourned until February 28 when the teenager is expected to apply for bail.
Major Crime officers have travelled to Bunbury and detectives and forensics officers have been to the hospital as part of their investigation.
