I had 500mb at my old job (where I had a lot more time to play on my phone) with no wifi and had to be pretty careful. I think 1-2gb would have worked easily. If I had wifi at work I'd be fine with 500mb no problem, maybe even as low as 250mb.

At work or at the island I'm surfing all over the web on laptops. Facebook a lot, here a lot.. even keep tabs on the "random pics" threads and occasionally the "random GIFs" thread too but that one takes too long to load tons on GIFs on the POS laptop I have at work. Occasionally at the island I'll download 300mb video's etc.

Pretty much use the shit out of it. lol

The nice thing about Verizon though is even if you went with the 500MB plan at first you can keep track of where you are, and change your plan online for free in minutes if you go over.
Basically if you were on the 1GB plan and you went over by 500 MB and it's before your billing cycle resets you can change to the 2GB plan, wait til the new billing cycle and change it back to 1GB. Plus you can set it to warn you by text message when you are getting close to your cap.

This is an example of the difference of our two countries. A sales rep was here earlier today, she lives in the neighborhood. Apparently the guys in the truck were taking shots out the window, may have hit some people. They tried to elude the cops, the cops shot them. This started at 11pm Friday and ended on a huge main road through our entire city called Deerfoot Trail. 4 lanes each way, the fastest in-town speed limit for a road.

They closed Deerfoot from 11pm Friday to Sunday morning because of the incident. If it happened in Chicago or New York, the hot dog vendor would push aside his cart, cops would do their thing for 10 minutes and then business as usual :lol:

Looks like Comcast is going to bring back bandwidth caps eventually. They used to have a flat 250 gig cap across the board, but that has been suspended for quite awhile now. The chart is for the test market in Tuscon, but I am sure it will roll out nationwide eventually, market by market. I am on the 105 mbps service, so I think the 600 gigs/month will be way more than enough. Even when Comcast was enforcing the 250 gig/month cap, there was only 1 month ever where I came even close to hitting my cap level.

Yeah, i had to switch ISPs when i got Netflix, had hit my old 40gb cap after a couple of nights :oops: Shame, i liked my previous host (small business who always responded right away and were always very helpful) but they didn't do an unlimited package so i switched over to BT......... partly because i wanted the BT Sports channels too which you get free if you have broadband with them :)

Looks like Comcast is going to bring back bandwidth caps eventually. They used to have a flat 250 gig cap across the board, but that has been suspended for quite awhile now. The chart is for the test market in Tuscon, but I am sure it will roll out nationwide eventually, market by market. I am on the 105 mbps service, so I think the 600 gigs/month will be way more than enough. Even when Comcast was enforcing the 250 gig/month cap, there was only 1 month ever where I came even close to hitting my cap level.

I think Cox has a cap but I don't remember what it is as I don't ever get close to going over. There is no penalty for exceeding the cap though other than an email stating "your computer might be compromised"

I think the only people the cap is an issue for are those that are downloading every 20-40GB full bluray they come across, even if they will never watch them.

I forget what the penalty was for Comcast if you went over the cap, I think it was a warning after the first month and then they would threaten to cut off your service after the 3rd month. But they suspended the cap about 18 months ago, probably so they could get this tiered cap out there and tested. And for the record, I have no problem with a 600 gig cap/month, there is no way I will ever come close to that.

I wouldn't even get past all numbers with 1 as the first digit before Python crashed. I just found a built-in function that makes it faster and more memory efficient.

Hmm.. very weird water on carpet issue. The source is a total mystery. It's on the second floor, in a closet at the back corner of the house. There's definitely no plumbing under the floor there and the nearest bathroom a good 6-8ft away. No water on the ceiling or the walls, no water in the room directly underneath. The spots of water on the carpet are right in the center of the room, there are simply no signs at all of it trickling in from any direction or from above! I even took down the light fixture above and couldn't feel any dampness.


Not sure what the hell it is. I've soaked up as much as possible (wasn't really a ton, we're talking an area of 4-5 baseball sized damp spots within the circumference of a little more than the size of a basketball). Also got a fan going on it to help.

We'll see I guess.

I talked to an electrician and he said it sounded like the fixture was wired wrong somehow. He said if it bothered me that much, that I should replace the fixture with a newer model (this one's from 1998).

But you're right, it's not "going to college", and they seem to be gouging the price. Given that there's not many online Engineering degrees, we can assume that they have the market cornered and they can charge whatever they want. You will be paying for the convenience of not having to attend college in the traditional sense.

I know what you're talking about. I thought about enrolling in that program myself. I think there might be some kind of financial aid available.
