I'm looking at smartphones. I'm thinking about picking one up really soon. I'm getting sick of my 2009 flip phone.

They're over at Verizon for $99.99 with the standard 2 year contract. They also have a buy one get one free deal going on them. If I call them, I might be able to get them to reduce the price in lieu of the second free phone, and get on their single line data plan. I've got wifi all over the place in the house, so I could use that full time instead of the data.

I have mine to auto connect any time I an get free wifi.. We have 3 phones on our plan and rarely go over 3 gigs a month total.

If you go anywhere that's built up nowadays, you'll be hard pressed to not be able to find an open Wi-Fi signal. Securing your phone's activity shouldn't be too difficult.

The plan I'm talking about is $45 for 250 MB/month. I can get 1 GB/month for $60. I don't see myself going above 250 MB given all the open Wi-Fi away from the house and my secure Wi-Fi at the house. If I need to add devices I could always call them and tell them to switch plans later as needed. They're not going to say no to be able to charge me more money.

And I've had this conversation with myself for the past week and a half. :lol:

the only app I would need on a phone is GPS....my current Neanderthal phone has a camera/flashlight/calendar organizer and that's all I need for a phone

for me it comes down to economics and comfort...I have a PC at work and one at home. My home PC has a 27 inch monitor so trying to google something or deal with emails on a 3 inch screen is unnecessary for me and unattractive....I pay too much for my net connection at home and don't need a hefty phone bill with a data plan as well

There are very few non-smartphones left out on the market. Hal sounds like my dad (who is gonna be 74 this year) and he refuses to use anything except a basic flip phone. careful being too forceful with popping - neti pot will really only clean out your sinuses and doesnt do a hell of a lot for the eustachain tubes. take a long hot shower and let hot water run on the back of your neck and over year ears. hot tea helps too. if you close the pressure right then you can draw down at the bottom of the eustachian tube using the sinuses as a means to create negative pressure. but careful you can overdo that also, it will make your palette sore. dont eat or do mucous-ey creating things like smoking or drinking lots of milk and that should help cut down on it, take some ibuprofen to keep inflammation down.

Yeah, you can just email a title company with your address and a request for a property profile. It will tell you everything there is to know about your property along with recent sales of similar houses. Thats how real estate agents determine what you can list your house for.

I used to do hot tub to snow and back plenty often on ski trips. this one place we stayed had this fence around the deck where the hot tub was, and we'd do flips off the fence into the snow on the other side.

I told my younger brother about it and he thought it was cool and a great idea, so the next year he was at the place, did a flip into the snow...


....and realized that there was about 2, 3 feet less snow than the year before when I was up there, and he couldnt reach the railing to get on the deck, so had to walk soaking wet in 3 feet of snow around to the front of the building and come in through the main entrance :rofl:

so i take my 8 year old son to a required retreat this afternoon. At one of the stations, they were having the kids make dough to make a bread. My kids are used to working around the kitchen, they make many of their own meals and what not. Pretty much we assist with getting things into and out of the oven or using the stove. They both like making breads and all sorts of things, so they are really comfortable with measuring/mixing/baking.

Anyways, my kid is going to town and having a blast. Another kid in the group looks at his name tag and says, "wow, you really are a baker!" (our last name is Baker for those of you that don't know). I look at this kids mom, and she had an extremely uncomfortable look on her face, which I didn't really understand because I didn't think anything of the comment. Me, being the smartass that I am, thought that I would look at this kids nametag to make some wise ass comment with something about his last name. When I looked at his nametag, I realized why his mom was maybe a little uncomfortable. I shit you not, the kids last name was "Glasscock".

My credit union was on top of it quick. I'm glad they caught it. I haven't made any online purchases since December, although it's possible that they could have hacked several places that I frequent where my information is stored, like Amazon. I don't think I'll be letting companies store my info anymore.

The last two most recent legit charges on my card were last week at my Dentist's office and last month at the tire shop.

Like I said, I was out yesterday, and I had it on me, but I didn't use it. Maybe I should line my wallet with tinfoil? Or just leave the card at home when I know I won't be needing it.

I tend to carry cash on me, and I'd hate to have to start using a debit card. Those are just as vulnerable.

I went to use my debit card one day and the pin reader at the store said - transaction cancelled. It was an odd message...tried it at two other places the same day, refused.

I called my bank and they said a group of my bank's debit cards were compromised, wouldn't tell me where and that they had 'disconnected' my debit card for my own safety. I had to go in to see them and I was pissed. They insisted that they notified me. When I asked which day it turned out to be a Sunday...the day they were closed.

She gave me another card and we did the new PIN thing and I wasn't happy when I left the bank. She kept telling me the same thing happened to her, like it would make me feel better :lol:

I don't mind that they're trying to protect me by cancelling the card, but I think they should tell me where the cards were compromised and the minute my debit card won't work...

While I was on the phone with credit card services, the representative told me that an attempt was being placed at an online company based in Missouri called Spoof-something or another.com. At least that was what I heard through her Indian accent. (Shut up, Dee :lol: ) It was instantly denied ("Yeah, lady, that's not me doing this shit"... were my exact words at the time). According to the woman, she couldn't track who was making the charges, but she would refer the case to another department that "might be able to". I guess talking to that department was out of the question because I wasn't transferred to them.

I fell asleep the other day..sitting here at work.

Multiple trucks coming in to pick our shipping, doors opening, dock plate banging up and down...

and here I am, one hand on the mouse, one on the keyboard and I'm sawing large logs :lol:
