So, I get home from work yesterday after a fairly long day (I was stuck here at the shop later than I wanted to be and traffic was a nightmare, so it took awhile to get home) and all I wanted to do was relax, but as I walk thru the door, the first thing I get is my dad walking up to me saying "I have some bad news, Garfield (our oldest cat) got out this morning, I don't know where he is and I can't find him"

:|

Needless to say I was rather mad and upset. Didn't even say a word to him, I was just so pissed that I didn't want to say something that I would possibly regret later. It's not like it's easy for any of our pets to get out of the house without some kind of aid. You would have to leave a door open or something for a fair amount of time before the cat(s) would try and sneak out, but if they do get close enough to an open door, they will definitely run out and try and get outside (they are both and always have been indoor cats). And my dad goes on to explain that he left the door open to the garage open for "too long" and he also had the garage door open and that's when he thinks Garfield got outside.

So I go outside and start walking the neighborhood, but he has a several hour head start and could really be anywhere, there are so many places in the area to just hide and it's not like I can just go conduct a yard-to-yard search. But as I am walking back to my house I think that he was probably scared after the initial excitement of being outside, so I start looking in the front yard. There's a several bushes and a large spruce tree in the front area between our place and the neighbor's house. I try calling him and then hear him meow. He is way up in the dense spruce tree and probably had been all day, he was just scared. Luckily I coaxed him down because the tree was way too dense for me to climb up it. He came down far enough where I was able to get him and I brought him in the house.

Crisis averted thankfully.

The rumor that "orange" rhymes with no other word is incorrect. Orange rhymes with Blorenge (a mountain in Wales) and sporange (a sac where spores are made).

Put in a movement sensed auto light switch in the hallway. Works great except for one thing. It won't turn all the way off in auto mode. Just goes dim. Too lazy to mess with it further tonight. I suspect it may be because the bulb is a led type, and staying on due to leakage.

Well, the internet and phones were all wonky most of the day yesterday, then my boss was all frantic that the internet was down last night here at the shop (meaning he would actually have to go home or work) and when I came in this morning the phones are working but the internet is down.

So, right now I'm tethered to my phone to access teh interwebz on my PC. But I'm gonna disconnect in a minute because I only get 1 gig of high speed data on my phone per month and then after that they reduce the speed to 2G for the rest of the month. Estimated time of the outtage being over is 7 AM local time (just under 2 hours) so it will be at least until then before I'm back.

:bye:

Oh, and not too terribly bad for the speed using the data on my phone:

So I go get me and coworker coffee....I'm in a designated left turning lane with the turn indicator light. Midway through the intersection the guy on the right of me decides he wants to turn left (they can only go straight through in that lane) and he cuts in front of me midway through the turn. I almost pile my car into the stone meridian and dump both XL coffees all over the floor of my front seat.

then he gives me the 'I almost killed you courtesy wave' ......I swear to God if I wasn't trying to get 3 gallons of coffee off of my floor and control my car at 90 kms per hour, I would have caught up to him and killed him :x

So we finally broke the piggy bank and got decent cable a few weeks back. It's great, but I haven't had much of a chance to check it. I just sat down to catch some cable news in literally 6-7 months.

CNN - 24/7 Ferguson (the reporter is walking alongside a guy with a bandana over his face and a sign that says "is it open season on niggas?") :|
FNC - 24/7 Ferguson :|
MSNBC - 24/7 Ferguson :|
Even the BBC had it on!

I was looking at the Uverse news multiview to see if anyone was not totally Ferguson focused. I wanted news, not day 10 of angry black people.

Wait what is this? One America News. Hmmm 24/7... to the remotemobile!

I watched 30 minutes plus... broad based US coverage, updates on international hot spots, brief but thorough coverage. I know this next part is going to be hard to believe, but in that 30+ minutes I was unable to identify a political slant. I was skeptically trying too! No screaming ideologues... really, it was actually straight reporting of news. That's it. :faint:

I may have a new favorite 24/7 news channel.

Back from 5 days in Vegas. Had an awesome time. Saw three shows including a Cirque, some great food, tons of walking and some shopping. The casinos weren't too kind to me but I only lost $50 overall so I can live with that.

If anyone's going soon, be sure to check out The Linq. It's this cool new little street off the strip with the new Ferris wheel at the end. Didn't ride the thing but the street is awesome. Lots of little shops and patio restaurants. Not the usual Strip vibe.

Just had our first game! We won 4-1. I didn't score but had an assist and was +3. Not too bad for my first game in a LONG time  Now off to the beach!

Well, the washing machine started leaking pretty badly this weekend, so it looks like that will have to be replaced now...yay :|

take it apart and tap it with a hammer

I did some research on possibly taking it apart and fixing it over the weekend, not sure it's anything I wanna do. According to one website, it lists (in order) the 14 most common reasons why this machine would leak. And other than the bad hose possibility, they all involve really taking this thing apart. And of course the worst case scenario would be if the tub is cracked which it says sometimes happens on this particular model. that alone for the replacement part is $545 and that would totally not be worth it.

We bought it used 2 years ago for $250 and we got our money out of it. Not sure I want to spend time diagnosing and repairing a washer that's several years old.

fair point , no harm in taking it apart for fun after you get a new one , then if it is a simple fix give it away

oh damn :(

Today is the last day for one of my coworkers. She works at an offsite location and helped every department across Canada...production, sales, CSR's, warehouses...there was nothing that woman couldn't do.

She's a hard core Christian too....never got down, never got frustrated, never negative no matter what idiotic bad crap was happening in our company..always positive and super fast with requests....

I've seen over 100 people come and go from this company and I am truly saddened by this loss...she helped so many people, right now (today) she's training her manager because even her own manager had no idea of the scope of work this woman commits to every day

she's one of those employees that's truly irreplaceable and will create such a large vacuum we will likely lose more employees and some clients as well...

dammit shit fuck piss

Teh One Who Knocks

That really sucks....is she retiring or moving on to a new job?

Hal-9000
09-10-2014, 06:31 PM
She's got a new job as a receptionist at an oil company.....prime example of her:

She went to the job interview and the interviewer talked about potluck dinners, twice monthly taking the employees out for fun, benefits, outreach programs, volunteer stuff the company does (which she is into bigtime) and other assorted company functions.

An hour into the interview she asks - I don't mean to be rude, but you can tell what my actual job duties will be?
Interviewer - Well you know, answering the phone, filing etc

 You have to realize that I'm not exaggerating...this girl multi-tasks like no one else and has job and systems knowledge that spans over 40 different job positions here...

So she says to me - I wonder how many times a day at the new job, that I can wipe down the desk blotter?

and now my super tells me that the 3 people that can kinda sorta cover parts of her work are off either on sick leave or vacation

batten down the hatches, it's gonna get rough

Teh One Who Knocks

You aren't gonna have to cover some of her stuff are you?

Hal-9000

well it's too hard (and boring for you) to explain in a post...but if our company can create an extra 300 steps of bureaucracy for one process, they will and do

even our own internal software to address production mistakes literally goes back and forth to 11 people, before we even start to physically fix the damn thing! And someone in our company wrote the software...if you hit enter at any field within, it logs you out of the system

so no, I won't be doing any of her crap....but I do know how it's done and what should happen....just waaaaaaay too tired of reps saying - I don't know how to do this, Shauna (girl in question) always did that for us.

some eyes will be opened pretty wide I'm sure....

Teh One Who Knocks

I take it that they don't do a lot of cross training there to prepare for things like this?

Hal-9000
09-10-2014, 07:03 PM
They do...but it's the perfect storm right now in our company...stocks are down, no employee raises across the board (nothing new for us) so a whole bunch of people gave notice and left in the past couple of months...sales, production, CIS (client info services) CSR's etc...

so there's not many people left to cross train .... but typically, we do that. Example - I can do about 40% of my supervisor's job and that's when I work late every night and come in for an afternoon on the weekend...in that case, it's not knowledge that holds me back, there's just not enough time...and I'm not willing to slave every day when I'm covering

Was it me or did he strut to the podium??? I can't remember a President in my lifetime to which I did not defer war judgements - party and ideology aside. But honestly, I am just not sure this guy has any idea what he's doing.
