So I order a book through Amazon from a place called Wobcanada (world of books). They sell new and used hardcover and softcover books. The book price is one dollar, with about 7 dollars shipping. It's one of Alan Carr's stop smoking books, he's written a handful of them with various titles.

I click on 'Alan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking', complete the online transaction and then get an order verification email saying 'Alan Carr's Stop Smoking Now' is being shipped. I suppose that both books cover the same subject, but I know what my original selection was and I want to read the first book the author wrote on the subject.

I use the order cancellation feature on the confirmation email, write a kind little blurb about how I chose a certain book title and if they can't ship it, don't bother. I sent teh cancellation notice about 2.5 hours after the original order...at night...on New Years weekend.

I get a response from Wobcanada saying the book is already shipped! and that I have two choices - I can camp out on my doorstep and when the postman shows up, I can refuse it in person....or...I can ship it back to their address, saying I don't want it...but I will likely pay for the shipping charges.

:-k

Book is a buck, shipping is seven times that amount. And I recall selecting my original title because I remember the cover of the book. They did a substitution, no question about it. So then I write a well crafted response to the 'suggestions' they sent, because of THEIR order mistake.

Then I get a rather terse response back from them this morning, basically 'take it up with Amazon, bye'

I'm reading the reviews for Wob....and for the most part everyone is happy. Cheap prices, books are in good condition and arrive quickly. Then one review features the same complaint as mine, down to the letter  Guy ordered one book, they sent the wrong one and now he's stuck with the problem and extra expense.

Mine is only 7 or 8 bucks and the novelty of getting an actual book again (I use an ereader) will make it worthwhile.

But ffs, I'm a first time customer and busted them on a lie. There's no way that they can't stop an order, placed on a Saturday night during the holidays.

You can't tell me that the little Wob-gnomes already had that thing picked and packed at 2am Saturday night

If your postal regulations are anything like ours here, you don't have to catch the mailman when he delivers the package, if it shows up, write "REFUSED" on the package and bring it back to the post office and drop it in the outgoing mail.

For a full-sized handgun, it really is hard to beat that Beretta IMO, I really like it and when it comes to handgun ammo, 9mm is still fairly reasonably priced and easy to get compared to some calibers.

Yeah I'm up on the process, thanks

Still...writing refused and then making the trip to the postal outlet is one step too far....and I still get charged for the product, then have to initiate a dispute claim with the seller...

Because I clicked on one item and they decided to send a different one :x If they just would have said something simple like - We made a mistake and you won't be charged, apologies....I would have accepted the book without issue

Back a bit, Lance, the link for the Beretta doesn't work for me. I carried a Beretta 9mm as a side arm when I was active duty (briefly,as there were problems with the ejection port in the service model) the I carried a Colt delta elite 10mm (wish I still had it)
I know Beretta long ago fixed the ejection port problem, so, that'd be a good one to have.
Seriously thinking of getting a .357 heavy frame for my next hand gun. Recently shot my Uncle's and had forgotten how much I like that gun

The 92 is the same I carried in the AF iirc. The problem it had when first issued was jamming due to small ejection port. Baretta fixed them and as far as I know, the 92 is still a militar issue weapon. Good gun

We have a sales guy like that, he will email half the company on something, then start calling everyone he just emailed to see if they have figured out the issue. He will then start calling CS reps that he didn't email and have them start working on the issue. Not happy with Canada Post on my last two deliveries. I've been home both times, one time standing right in the kitchen...and I find a door knocker notice in the mailbox. UPS isn't much better...we find out that next year the kid is going to need a laptop for school and since the one she has right now is uber crappy, we ordered her a new one. It was supposed to be delivered on Wednesday this week, and of course my dad is home all day and I have two dogs that will let you know if someone knocks or rings the doorbell. My dad said he saw the UPS truck pull away (which usually means they left something on the front porch, he goes and looks and one of those stupid 'nobody home' stickers was on the door. And since it was a laptop, it required an adult signature for delivery. No knock, no nothing, and instead of taking the time to knock and actually deliver the package, he had the time to fill out that stupid sticker form and leave it on the door. :|

I see one of two things....either the notice as you mention above or they (UPS) leaves the product on the doorstep. It's -20 with windchill most days through the winter. They left an internal hard drive, a docking station and some software on the step or in the box...my last delivery was a monitor so I kept calling my Dad from work asking him to peek out he window. Sure enough, guy comes marching up with his pre-written notice, Dad opens the door and asks - Don't you have a delivery??? Said that guy looked visibly pissed and went back to the truck and got my monitor

The thing that really baffles me is, they have to take the time and fill out the notice AND walk up to your door anyway to stick the notice there. Why not just try and actually do your job and deliver the package that we already paid for and are expecting? :|

This is a long story...we had a daily Loomis drive at work. He would come every day in between 12 and 1, we asked him not to. We had a sign that asks drivers to honk their horn, then we open one of our big bay doors and let them in, take their crap.

So everyday this clown would arrive after 12, his horn was weaker than a bicycle horn...and he would actually write out a non-delivery notice and put it in our mailbox. Our maibox was RIGHT BESIDE a large doorbell that sounds like a loud boat whistle in our building. The guy would have to walk up some stairs to our entry door, to put the notice in the mailbox....which is RIGHT BESIDE the doorbell.

We had to call his supervisor and make complaints and one day he asks us - why we did that? and kept making sarcastic comments about not handling problems, just complaining.

My sister and her husband were driving home from Michigan today. They decided to stop for a bathroom break. When they got back on the highway, all the traffic was being diverted. It took them 4 hours longer to get home than usual.

Come to find out they had taken their bathroom break just before what ended up being a 150-car pileup.

Thank goodness for miracles!

Normally my daughter and wife aren't like your stereotypical female, taking a long time to get ready, but this one afternoon, they did. I was fuming - I like to be on time or perhaps even early.

On Marine Way, around a curve just after Boundary (GF might know if he reads this) we saw the brake lights go on, and drove around the curve to see a car ripped in half and another car made unrecognizable, as well as 4 other cars not so damaged.

I pulled over but for those 2 cars there was nothing you could do...and the authorities had just arrived and told us if we didn't see the incident to move on - there were enough people there to help. I'm not going to describe the scene I saw but it will haunt me, that's for sure. Had we been a few minutes earlier, we might've been in the middle of all that.

I let him know in no uncertain terms how absolutely lazy and idiotic 'his side' of the dispute was. He was about 5'3'' and easily 350 lbs....we called him Slim Goodbody behind his back. To this day he still thinks it's our problem because we asked him not come at lunchtime so we ' take our chances' .

:sad2: .....no that guy was from an independent long haul trucking company who I had the tiff with (and schooled his work rage in .3 of second I might add )

this guy above was our daily drop off driver...you know how big a 5 ton truck is? Box on the back is about 12 feet deep, 8 feet wide. If the guy above had 4 boxes, he would get a wheeler, stack the 4 boxes and slowly wheel them to the back of the truck, huffing and puffing the whole way. It was a painful process to watch as other guys would just throw the cartons in about 2 seconds

I have a sad story to tell you
It may hurt your feelings a bit
Last night as I walked into my bathroom
I stepped in a big pile of ...
Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave every day and you'll always look keen

I think I'll break up with my girlfriend
Her antics are queer, I'll admit
Each time I say, "Darling, I love you"
She tells me that I'm full of ...
Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave every day and you'll always look keen

Our baby fell out of the window
You'd think that her head would be split
But good luck was with her that morning
She fell in a barrel of ...
Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave every day and you'll always look keen

An old lady died in a bathtub
She died from a terrible fit
In order to fulfill her wishes
She was buried in six feet of ...
Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave every day and you'll always look keen

When I was in France with the Army
One day I looked inside my kit
I thought I would find me a sandwich
But the darn thing was loaded with ...
Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave every day and you'll always look keen

And now folks my story is ended
I think it is time I should quit
If anyone of you feel offended
Stick your head in a barrel of ...
Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave every day and you'll always look keen

Goldman Ball-Saks slashed the oil outlook. Under $47 right now. US oil investment is cutting sharply. The junk bond market is scared shitless. I told you guys this a couple months back... this is dangerous and could easily lead to an even more severe banking collapse. No, they didn't fix it.

That, my friends, is exactly why OPEC has not cut production. The collapse of the banking markets and the dollar means they win... and win BIG.

The other theory is Saudi arabia, colluding with the US, is doing it to fuck with russia and iran, mainly iran.

Between sanctions and low oil prices, iran is pretty much fucking broke. Putting them in a shit position with the US on nuclear talks.

Saudi arabia has once before bankrupted russia because of oil prices, and it's doing it again.

People are pointing to a meeting back on sep 11th between Kerry and the king of saudi arabia, and noticing shortly after, price of oil started dropping significantly.

Lt. Col. Ralph Peters tonight gave a detailed plan to Bill O’Reilly on how he would fight terror.

“One: You accept that you are in a war. Two: You name the enemy, Islamist terrorists. Three: You get the lawyers off the battlefield […] you accept there will be collateral damage and you do not apologize for it. You do not nation build, you don’t try to hold ground. You go wherever in the world the terrorists are and you kill them, you do your best to exterminate them, and then you leave, and you leave behind smoking ruins and crying widows. If in five or 10 years, they reconstitute and you gotta go back, you go back and do the same thing, and you never, never, never send American troops into a war you don’t mean to win,” Peters said.

Col. David Hunt said that there must be economic pressure in addition to the military campaign that Peters detailed. Hunt said that just killing terrorists has not worked.

“Killing them is the only thing that works,” Peters fired back.

Why isn't this guy in charge of our military? :-k

I don't buy that...sure, there are people/companies that profit on war, but I find it extremely cynical to think that the United States is sending men and women to die so only a select few make money off the whole deal. To me the problem is 'image' and being bound by political correctness. We worry too much about what the rest of the world thinks and we worry too much about 'angering' moderate Muslims (for example). If you get right down to it, if the military is completely allowed to go in and fight the war militarily, removing PC and image out of the equation, you can count on one hand the number of countries that would be able to go toe-to-toe with us militarily. We could lay waste to the entire Middle East if we wanted to, and that's without using nuclear weapons. Like Col. Peters said, we're too worried about collateral damage to do that though and as long as the US military is fighting with one hand behind their back, everything will keep going like it is until something REALLY bad happens.

Yes but what about events like after 9/11 and the decision to go into Iraq? They claimed Saddam this and WMD that, but I believe it's been proven that oil and resource rights were at the forefront and that companies like Haliburton had ties/were affiliated with the US government and stood to make billions from the 'war'?

When those sort of dollars are at stake I don't think it's cynical to think that high level government worry about public perception when our military folk die. Going back to the late 70's, the gov has been involved in conflicts that serve their bottom line, moreso than the 'threat' against democracy.

Don't get me wrong...this pacifist supports the military, just not the government decisions behind the actions. You don't have to be a conspiracy nut to understand the war machine is not always what it appears to be on the surface. Soldiers from various conflicts have stated that the reasons behind their presence in far off lands, were quite different from what they were initially told. And to me, if the guys on the ground who lived and fought there are disenchanted with their own government, that makes a compelling argument.

We get an e-mail from my soon to be step-kid's teacher looking for candid photos taken at school events for the yearbook (and don't even get me started on an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL having a yearbook, but I digress). He describes what he needs and then at the bottom he says "we need photos taken with digital cameras, the yearbook software won't work with photos taken with phones and iPads"

This guy is a teacher? :-k

Yet he seems to think for some reason that photos taken on mobile devices are in some strange file format that can't be converted to something that the software can use. Even worse, he thinks that a photo taken on an Android phone isn't the same as one taken with a digital camera? :-s

Kelly was an absolute hottie...Elizabeth was my badminton partner (we won a trophy at the cities)...Kim was my g/f in grades 5,6 and very attractive...and the others were just notches on the belt

Fuckin guy took our ball away at recess time..he intended it to be for a month. We were caught playing a form of football called Murderball. Two soccer goals and the rules were...you could run with the ball for as long as you wanted holding it. You could pass it, kick it....and it was full tackle. Kids were getting bruised and cut up pretty bad so he tried to impose Marshall Law.

We formed a group, made a complaint to the principal and got the ball back

I'm still surprised at how much better the sound system is at the studio now.... added to those 3 way 10" KRK Rokits, we picked up the subwoofer, and the Ergo room correction piece - made a huuuuuuuuuuuge difference!

I have been studying neve schematics like mad, I am in the process of designing outboard amps...since the board only had Main L-R, Aux1-4 out...to get individual outs I am going to steal the signal from the solo loop and run it to a similar line amp that the mains and auxes have. Its all right there....in the schematic  Now I'm on a transformer hunt, and also hunting for those two little sub-boards on the line amp. If I cant find those that's going to mean a lot of extra work for me.
Going to add cool things in what I am building that I see in the schematic - you can resistor a couple pins on the transformer output to set a certain gain value for that stage of the circuit, but I am going to find some 6 way selector switches so that the gain can be switched between 3 and 18db.

your consciousness will exist to experience it, dont worry about it bro.

in fact if you think about it, you'll have your legs back to enjoy it, so really, no reason to fret. just hope you're not reincarnating into a super police state as appears to be the current trajectory. just dont reincarnate in the US  but you have to keep your awareness through the death process if you want to have a significant amount of control over that ;)

that's the good thing about actual reality, it goes beyond your beliefs...not that your beliefs dont influence them, however. remember the universe is quantum mechanical in nature and you cannot remove yourself from the experiment ;)

Perhaps the real reason the Fed opposes an audit can be found by looking at what has been revealed about the Fed’s operations in recent years. In 2010, as part of the Dodd-Frank bill, Congress authorized a one-time audit of the Federal Reserve’s activities during the financial crisis of 2008. The audit revealed that between 2007 and 2008 the Federal Reserve loaned over $16 trillion — more than four times the annual budget of the United States — to foreign central banks and politically-influential private companies.

I learned something new about the song 'Sweet Home Alabama' from the DJ on the radio this morning:

The now-famous moment at the beginning of the song when Ronnie Van Zant says, "Turn it up," was not planned. He was telling an engineer to turn up the volume in his headset but it sounded good so it was left in the final recording.

its a good thing the head bob is kept up, otherwise things like that would have been out of time and removed from a recording.

there's almost always little bits of unintended studio stuff that comes out on a recording, that's why you keep the tapes rollin as much as possible.
