I did do something to prep for my new life. I read all about the medical effects of nicotine (and other chemical) dependance. Not the scary obvious lung and throat and oral cancer shit...I mean what actually happens to your brain receptors and the nicotine/dopamine cycle. It's ingenious really...and those same receptors are changed for life....kinda like carved pathways. That's why so many people screw up and smoke again months or years later....once you understand the difference between the addiction and the habit....staying away from them is pretty easy.

the cigarette companies are bastards...there's lots of online medical articles that explain exactly what happens when you start to smoke. Pretty dry reading but it is helping me immensely...

Like it's almost the perfect delivery system for a drug. Every 30 minutes or so the brain craves/needs and when you smoke, instant gratification within 7 seconds. Nicotine also sharpens some senses, inhibits insulin production and whole host of other body functions....so when you quit, it's manufactured to make you crave the drugs for about 10 different reasons.

As opposed to opiates, which create a huge one time dump of dopamine, serotonin (heroin, morphine etc)...cigarettes do a more subtle job of addiction. Like right now I have no typing abilities and can't concentrate for very long. Lizard brain is saying - Have a smoke and all of that lethargy and fuzziness will go away instantly :)

I started on FB in 2007. Joined because my sister was active on it because of her son's death and it was a good tool for things like that....then.

You could add little apps onto your page, start group pages (ideal for sister's situation) and determine the layout of the apps. You had at least what looked like some control over privacy.

Then it changed....I took about an 8 month break and the interface/GUI had completely morphed into something else. It's changed again since that time...adding a 'timeline' and linking just about every action a person can do on a page.


Simply put - old days you could send a personal message to someone on FB and the world couldn't see it. You could make a post on their 'wall' and only they or whoever they deemed okay, could see that wall post.

In recent times I've read that you can go into someone's timeline and with some patience, locate their personal messages. No matter how many privacy filters you set, almost every piece of data is recorded and logged, and can be found.

It's like a huge network of 'likes' or actions that are linked together. Every time you make a mouse click on FB, it gets put into a 'feed' or a barrel of 'shit that you have done'. People think that their info can only be seen by other FB friends, think again..

I actually felt my privacy being violated the last time I logged on...it was a palpable, physical feeling :lol: :lol:

Got nothing to hide but when you can't delete a single entry, (they 'archive them') or your account from something (for life)....it's too invasive.

I'm so glad we pay so much every season for the kid's soccer....the girls had an away game on Saturday, game time arrives and none of the officiating crew is there (we almost never get linesmen, but that's another sore point for me for another time) so the home team appoints their own assistant coach as referee. :| About 8 minutes or so into the first half, the home team scores a goal that was clearly offsides and shouldn't have counted. He let the goal stand. :| A little while later, our ref finally shows up. Our team ends up losing 2-1 on a goal that never should have counted. Now I understand it's rec league and not a competitive league, but still, that's this team's first loss in more than 2 years and it never should have happened.

I used to play on a flag football team and we would occasionally have to ref when the 'official' refs wouldn't show up. We had an official guy come late and start reffing in the fourth quarter. He made a very bad call and cost our team the game. I was elected to discuss it with him and he tossed me from the game with 4 plays left (we used play counts for games, not clocks or times) :lol:

All teams were self coached and any coaches were usually players too. QB and coach from the other team came to our bench and apologized for the win, that's how bad it was :lol:

I know it's hard Lance but the lesson I leaned from that game was that referees rarely change their calls no matter how wrong they are. I remember approaching this guy in a very friendly way and asking a question. Next thing I know he's frothing and ranting, I'm laughing at him in shock really...and I'm getting told to leave the field :lol:

It was nice that the other team realized the ref had some other issues beyond very poor eyesight.

The point isn't that a ref made a bad call, the point is that the home team appointed one of it's assistant coaches as ref and he is the one that made the bad call, not an official ref.

2. called one about 2 miles from my house
3. got a meet n greet
4. got right in at the appointed time, no waiting
5. besides the meet n greet I got:
a) a referral to a specialists for a minor ongoing thing
b) blood pressure, heart etc all taken/looked at
c) all aspects of the first part of a full physical (minus the blood and ECG stuff)
d) any and all questions answered about stuff happening to my bod since quitting smoking
