EdX opened up an HTML 5 class, and a math-based thing on Coursera. Both started yesterday. The Coursera thing is a data statistical specialization with 9 or 10 classes, and I always wanted to check it out (they've been doing it for several years), so I signed up for it. You have to use the R statistical programming language with it, and I've never messed with R before, so it should be interesting. The HTML thing is for review, I suppose. I think it's three separate classes in succession. I'm looking to see if they're gonna hit any Perl scripting, which a family member asked me to look into. I really don't like doing web design, it's not my cup of tea, but I'll stick with it and see if they changed anything around from back when I first learned HTML a long time ago.

I've got others that I'm knee deep in as well. There's a Java class that I'm not really into, a differential equations class, a mathematical philosophy class, a class on Matlab programming, and there's something else that's slipped my mind but I don't feel like logging in to go check on what it is. Everything I've named here is basically review for me, except for R. Differential Equations is review and it's my specialty, so I fully expect to slaughter that class with minimal effort. I'm already getting bored with it. The Java is review, Matlab is review, the math philosophy is basically an intro to mathematical thinking and proof writing... and it's review for me. Right now, everything I'm taking, at the very least, is stuff that I've seen before in some way or another and I just want to remind myself of what it is that I know.

I didn't feel like finishing the C# class, so I just downloaded all the materials from it and figured I'd get back to it later if they offered it again. I found the assignments completely boring, to be honest. I just couldn't be bothered with building the whole college database, which was pretty much the end game. When a class has no variation in its materials, I always get bored and don't want to do the work. I can't stand looking at the same shit over and over again. Anyway, I have MS's book on it, and I grabbed another one from Amazon that looks promising, so I'll be messing with those for a little while. Really, with me knowing C, C++, Python, and Java (reluctantly), and having already solved all of the standard problems in those languages, mastering C# is just a matter of getting the syntax and grammar down, which I pretty much already know, since I already know C, C++, and Java. C++, Java, and C# are all pretty much the same species, all using the keywords and syntax originally defined in C.

Yeah that was a thought for sure....my main want is something that's not over an hour away for the commute.

I promised that to myself. If I'm going to make a low to average wage for a job, I don't want to spend half of my days in traffic....just not worth it. I've done that since I was 22 and it sucks more every year in our city because of the influx of immigrants...we get something like 30000 new drivers a year, on the same old roads...

Nope, it's written into that stupid grant, it shows up as a 2nd mortgage, and unless you are refinancing solely to get a lower interest rate, anything you do triggers the loan to be required to be paid back. Otherwise you have to wait the 15 years for it to sunset. You can't even sell the house until those 15 years are up without triggering the loan to be paid off.

A little of both I think? I watched the race and at the end, American Pharoah was pulling away from the rest of the field still, so I think he was a pretty darn good horse. Is he up in the category of the greatest horses that have run? IMHO no, but he still won the Triple Crown which has only been done 12 times now in the history of the Triple Crown. So that, no matter what, makes him a pretty damn good horse in the grand scheme of things.

I've seen two snakes in my yard today after not having seen a single snake at all in the past 5 or 6 years. The snake out front was a black racer and the snake in the back was a pygmy rattlesnake. The racer's nonvenomous and no big deal. The rattlesnake is a different story. My neighbor said she's been seeing a few of the pygmies around lately. That's definitely not good.

We've got amphibians, a whole mess of lizards, and huge ass turtles out the wazoo down here... an ungodly number of nonvenomous snake species and 6 venomous snakes, only one of which (that I've already mentioned) will not kill you. I have seen 3 of the 6 so far: The Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, the Timber rattlesnake, and the Pygmy. The one's I haven't seen are the Cottonmouth, the Southern Copperhead, and the Coral snake. I live near a river, so I should have seen a Cottonmouth by now, but alas, no.

We also have bats, I've seen razorbacks (wild hogs), alligators, feral cats, rabbits, deer, all kinds of birds (large and small)... there are big cats, panthers, although I've never seen one personally. There are supposed to be black bears around here somewhere, but again, I've never seen any.

There's armadillos, possums, raccoons, and those little bastard squirrels. Probably a bunch of other shit that I can't think of right now.

And bugs... lots and lots of bugs. This place is the kingdom of spiders, scorpions, fire ants, mosquitoes, sand gnats, bees, and hornets/wasps. I think there are huge ass horse flies around here too. Nasty buggers. And palmetto bugs... giant fucking roaches.

I just read that there's a shortage of coral snake antivenom. Apparently, since they're so reclusive and bites are so rare, it's not profitable for pharmaceutical companies to keep making the antivenom. Pfizer was making more in 2013, but there's no confirmed date of release.

The problem with the religion slant in politics, especially on the republican side, is that to win in the primaries, you have to come off as a bible thumping fire and brimstone Christian or else you won't have a prayer of winning in the uber conservative states. Then, if you do make it thru the primaries and become the nominee, you have to move all the way back to the center to have any shot at the general election. That's why people like Trump, Herman Cain last election, Chris Christie, and the like would have no shot because they aren't religious enough for the far right wing republicans that come out to vote in the primaries. It sucks, it's time for the mainstream part of the republican party to tell all the religious zealots to go pound sand.

I can relate. The Phillies won the World Series the same year that my father passed away (2008). I was elated and sad all at the same time. He should have been there to see it. I'm a baseball fan because of my father. That's the most loved sport on his side of the family and I remember him taking me to games back in the late 70s and early 80s back when I was a little kid in Philly and NJ. My father absolutely loved baseball and he loved our Phillies. Granted, we're a big football family because my brother and I both played in youth leagues and high school, and my father loved the Eagles too, but baseball was, is, and always will be the number one family sport because of my father.

I didn't watch a single lecture, so I went into the exam completely ignorant of what specifics were covered in the course. I was flying blind. Took it once. 24 questions. Got them all correct on the first attempt. I was given 4 hours to complete the exam and I was done in 15 minutes.

10 years after obtaining my degree and I haven't looked at any strict Math Philosophical theory since then, and I'm still the motherfuckin' bomb.
