Went with the g/f and the kid up into the mountains yesterday to get away from the city and the heat for awhile. We went up to ride the Georgetown Loop Railroad in old silver mining country. Took a tour of an old silver mine as well. Twas a great time, lots of history up there, and especially hearing about the conditions the miners worked in and what they went thru. Makes you appreciate how easy we truly do have it nowadays.

Yeah, we never go up into the mountains nearly enough considering how close they really are. Georgetown and Silver Plume (the two towns the railroad runs between) are only about 50 miles away from where we live in the city, so it's not very far away at all to get to see some really historic stuff. Plus, it's so pretty up there and just getting away from the city for awhile makes it worth the trip.

Not really. I was never really dependent on the classroom structure back in college. If there was a really good book on the topic of discourse, then I could pass the class quite easily without attending lectures. Instructors would be offended, but whatever. Egotistical bastards, some of them. If it was something ridiculously specific and current (something new, something that changes every several months and doesn't have books on it published in a timely fashion... there were a few of those in my senior year), I would need to be in class because the written resources wouldn't be available.

There's both self-paced and time-constrained. I have no problem with either. I prefer the deadlines, actually. I can blow off the self-paced ones quite easily just because I can.

I suppose it would mean a little more to me if I was actually paying for this junk, but I'm a cheap bastard and I'm not getting actual credit for any of this shit. The knowledge should be enough, but after 2 years of constant studying, I find myself wanting to do something else. I felt the same way around the time I was about to graduate with my bachelor's. I just had enough, wanted to be done, and wanted to move on.

I can't answer that. We don't have the "pay early - reduced infraction" option here in Georgia. In fact, I've never even heard of that. Sorry, bud.

It's not so much pay early, but as long as you pay it before your scheduled traffic court date on the ticket, you get to plead to the lesser offense. Of course this only works for more minor infractions, there is obviously no plead down for offenses like DUI or careless & reckless.

No pay early, reduce the fine here either. We have two choices, pay before date listed or appear in court to plead not guilty on date listed.

Excellent. Took my Dad down to an ISP and TV place this morning, convinced him to switch the internet and cable provider. (we copay the bills)

About 100 more channels on the new basic TV package, a new PVR, two free cable boxes, way faster internet and double the allowable monthly bandwidth...for 62 dollars LESS per month.

First year we save over 700 dollars and the following two years we save about 300-400 per year. It's on a three year contract which is fine, because then they can't arbitrarily boost the monthly fee by five to seven bucks. The existing ISP just did that, I called them and asked what the extra seven bucks was for and got an - I don't know answer....

Well the other provider was month to month and raised the bill umpteen times without warning or explanation....I asked the girl about how often this ISP would raise the bill under contract and she showed me one 3 dollar increase in 9 years.

Better TV, better internet and 60 dollars difference per month for a year at least. It's worth something to me and my Dad..

normally PVR is 15/month to rent, boxes are 5/month to rent and 300, 150 to purchase. So for three years we rent the hardware for free, rather than having to buy or rent

You're supposed to be able to download the full iso file for your version after you upgrade so you can burn the iso to disc in case you need to reinstall for whatever reason. That's what I've been reading anyway.

I have two computers I'm going to upgrade. One's running 7 Home, no frills, no tricks and I'll probably upgrade that first. It should be simple. The other's my monster rig with 7 Pro and Linux configured in dual boot, and I may have some problems there as I have a non-windows based boot loader in my MBR. I may have to get rid of the dual boot and let Windows take over the entire drive, upgrade, then reconfigure the dual boot with the ISO later. We'll see what happens.

So, not outright amnesty or a fresh, legal start for all, but a free upgrade to Windows 10 all the same. Hopefully “conversion” licenses will be affordable enough to be attractive.

Just in case you guys missed it: Windows 10 is being downloaded in the background. If you go to your C:\ directory, you should see a folder named:

$windows.-BT

If you don't see it, you either need to enable hidden files and folders or the folder hasn't been built yet, but rest assured, everything's being downloaded to your computer. I don't have the folder on my monster rig, but I see in several folders dated today that file sizes are growing periodically.

The OS has been downloaded to the other computer. I'll deal with it later and let you guys know how it goes. I'm still waiting for the monster rig to get all of the files. I've read some articles that said it may take weeks for some people's computers to be ready for the upgrade. I'm hoping the rig isn't one of them but oh well. In the meantime, I've got a boatload of junk to back up on the other computer before I start the upgrade, so I'm gonna be pretty busy for a while.

I was getting the Win 10 icon in the taskbar on every boot and then found out if I remove a certain security update, the icon disappeared for good. I had already reserved it but I think by deleting that update it won't download automatically. Nothing going on in the taskbar or in the task manager that I can see.

If you have reserved your copy legally, then you will have to first install Windows 10 on top of your legit Windows 7/8.1 and complete the installation. Then you can use a program like Magical Jelly Bean Key Finder to find your new Windows 10 serial. After that you can use the serial for fresh installation if you want.
