Think i know what the issue is, i'm running Win7 Ultimate and the options in that download from Porky's thread only list home and pro.

over and above them not listing your version, you saw DGX's post about people that are using non legit OS's?

it was a little confusing as to what will really happen

This is why I'm doing Porky's thing on a USB drive. I don't want to/trust upgrading my Windows 7 installation right now, things are working fine as is

From the MS site

Windows 10 Upgrade Offer is valid for qualified Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices, including devices you already own. Some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may vary by device and market. Features vary by device. Devices must be connected to the internet and have Windows Update enabled. Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update required. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer. To check for compatibility and other important installation information, visit your device manufacturer’s website and the Windows 10 Specifications page.

Bollocks  Fuck it, will take 2 seconds to patch/crack anyway  Ill do a fresh install when i get the time!

If I wasn't changing my service provider tomorrow morning I may have tried this.

I don't have faith that any new OS will run smoothly even if there is an option to revert back. Who knows, maybe MS actually will make a smooth transition....they'll do it without me for awhile

Q. I have a laptop and own the copy of Windows 7 Ultimate that is installed on it. I need to upgrade that laptop to Windows 10. However, after the upgrade, I would like to install the Windows 7 Ultimate OS into VirtualBox along with our old Windows XP copy for demonstration purposes. Can I do that?

A. NO. Since you are using the Windows 7 Ultimate license as the base for upgrading to Windows 10 on that device the Windows 7 license is locked to that machine and is not able to be moved. What you can do is upgrade that Windows 7 Ultimate machine to Windows 10 Pro, the version it is allowed to upgrade to.

Hmmm :-k

PorkChopSandwiches

Hmmm :-k

1. Win 7 Ultimate will be = Win 10 Pro
2. The win 7 key will be used as you win 10 key, so no longer good for windows 7, so you wont be able to make a VM with the old key to run win 7, you would need another win 7 license
3. We found that we cant upgrade anything (Win 7 pro) with Volume License key, so if you have one of those it looks like it currently wont upgrade

I swear to God, every time I switch Oses, the audio jacks switch functions on me. When I had 7 on there, it was the audio jack on the left that was the main. With 10, it's the one in the center. I wish these idiot programmers would make up their damn minds!!! I spent an hour looking for a freakin' driver before thinking of switching the jacks.

Yeah, that place I found, but it only shows Internet Explorer as an option... Wonder if I can dump my bookmarks to IE first and from there to Edge. Why they have to fuck up such a simple and important feature if they want people to migrate and give Edge a go. Oughta support all browsers for importing...

DemonGeminiX

You didn't even read it. Here's what the page headers say:

How to import bookmarks into Edge

Edge makes it easy to import bookmarks from other browsers -- but not from HTML files.

That link is telling you how to import bookmarks from other browsers. In the pics, it shows a list of browsers you could choose from. In their list, it shows IE and Chrome, and they say Firefox works too.

Take the extra 30 seconds and open the page.

Come into the light, brother!

I friggin read it! For me, Edge still shows only IE as an option from which to import. That is what I was trying to say. I don't know if I am not understanding something you are trying to say or am I not being understood. either way, I shall continue my quest to explore the new Win.

When I saw the mall kiosk chick last week I specifically asked her if they still use the phone lines (put microfilters on each phone jack and use part of the signal from one)
She says - OH NO! That was 10 years ago, we don't need to use the phone jacks :)

I also ask the tech guy about initializing our new email accounts setting up the pop server name etc...

OH NO, I'm not very good at that pc stuff, I'll give you a number to call.

He's running a line from the house to the alley lines....he's cut an old line we've had outside the house since I was born....he's going to use the phone jacks inside the house for something...he may or may not use the old cable line from my current provider...and I think all of this will be controlled by some sort of wireless router or device the TV and the PC will both work off of.

We will be getting a wifi signal through that device as well.

wow...the TV is awesome

nice hardware down to the remotes and my old Sony TV looks amazing...I used to have a basic cable package (crappy signal coming in) and a crappy converter that rendered SD channels at best

this new setup is the most basic TV plan, tons of channels and they look HD...didn't know my TV could looks this good.

Internet is great too....did a test and I'm getting 27Mbps (rated at 25Mbps according to the plan) downloading and 7Mbps uploading (rated at 5 Mbps)

may not sound like much but I was getting 12 downloading and .5 uploading from the last provider...at about twice the cost, this is awesome

buddy said the way the tech works my minimum download speed will be 25 Mbps because it's not affected by users or time of day...

If you shut your computer off, the router should stay on. Shutting your computer down shouldn't interrupt anything.

Is your hardware (PVR and router) Cisco? They both look a lot like mine. Your controller's different, but...

If you shut your computer off, the router should stay on. Shutting your computer down shouldn't interrupt anything.

Yes I believe they are both Cisco products

Ya I shut of my pc  I meant the router/modem thingy. It's got a hardline to the TV PVR plugged into a 'network' port so I'm not sure what's really wireless about the setup.

There's cords going to the wall and PC from the router/modem thingy.

This is embarrassing. The package says they will set up a wifi area. Tech dude said I should get wifi throughout the house. I have no devices that use wifi so how would I know?
WAIT...sister is here with her Ipad, that shit uses wifi I think....

Your router is already wireless. I can tell just by looking at it. The PVR is not. He may have been trying to upsell you into buying wireless PVRs. Basically the PVR would just sit there not connected to a router or through a wall connection. Your PVR would be hardline connected to your TV and the wifi will work with your PVRs.

Like you've already discovered, you could set up your smartphones and tablets to use your wireless router instead of using the phone/tablet data. It's a good way to save your data on your phone and tablets.

Also, you could get wifi-enabled TVs and/or bluray players and if you have subscription services like Netflix, Hulu, etc, you'd be able to connect your wifi-enabled TV/bluray player to use those services over the router instead of using those services on your computer. My bluray player's wifi-enabled but I haven't used that feature yet. I don't have Netflix or Hulu, but I think I can access my Amazon Prime account through it and Youtube as well. I just never do it.

I never shut off my router. I'll occasionally power cycle it (basically, just reboot it from the computer on a settings menu that you pull up in a webpage... they should have some literature telling you how to do that and what the web address is), but it's a rare thing. It'll shut down when we lose power during storms, but it'll restart when the power comes back on. With the PVRs, I do the same. Occasionally I'll shut them down but it's few and far between.

Ok this is where I get confused DGX old friend....you say it's wireless and I have no doubt you're right.

So how come I see one line to a regular power outlet, and two more lines going into the wall?

I understand that the unit needs to get power from somewhere, so really is the term wireless just a potential service it can provide to other devices?
Because the back of that thing is anything but 'wireless'

The two black antennas on the back of the router are broadcasting a wireless signal field. The router's not receiving a wireless signal, it broadcasts the wireless signal that your wireless devices can use. That's where the wifi comes from. You can connect wirelessly to the router.

The router gets its power while plugged into an outlet in the wall. You can't do that wirelessly, at least not to my knowledge.

Your router is the central hub.

You got 3 lines coming in to the router: Power, coaxial (which is carrying in your cable TV), and conditioned phone line (which is carrying in your internet/phone line).

Your conditioned phone line: Does your dongle line(in the pic) go to the router? Or does the dongle line go to a phone? They changed the nature of the phone signal on the outside so that it can carry your internet. I call it conditioned. It's not a scientific or official technical term, just my personal jargon for it (I'm using a ton of fucked up language in this, actually  ). It's not a pure landline phone signal anymore. The phone landline is still there, it's just masked by the internet signal. Back when I had DSL, the dongles removed the conditioning from the phone line so we could plug in and use the phone. Without the dongle, the phone landline wouldn't work, we'd just get a whole lot of noise. One single undongled phone line, which sent and received data over the internet, went into the router. Is that what's going on there? Is your dongle line in the pic going to a phone?

You got 2 lines going out of the router: Yellow goes to PVR which is connected to the TV (carrying the cable), and white goes to your computer (carrying your data to and from the internet).

Your sister connected wirelessly with her Tablet, so the router is broadcasting its wifi, you're just not utilizing it.

Does that help any?

Completely and thanks. I'll address the questions tomorrow when my eyes are less red  I had to go out with my twisted sister for a bit.

The terms are so misleading. Wireless router. Well, it's not really a wireless standalone unit without connections. It creates a field so other wireless devices can use the signal.

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse. They do not have wires leading to walls or ports or power bars. They are truly standalone pieces of hardware. Without wires.

I get FIVE emails from Paypal to my new address.

Each one says - Confirm email address in the body of the note. I hit the blue button with the confirm email phrase on it, that takes me to a webpage that says enter Paypal password. Like an idiot I enter my password and it fails of course, because it's still associated with my old email address :x

To answer any and all questions this is what I know. We have existing land line phone jacks throughout the house. Buddy first tells me he's going to use them, then creates that white box in the wall in the picture. There was not a phone jack there before he arrived. He also showed me a little unit that had what looked like three phone jacks and he wired that into the existing cable line.

As far as dongles, conditioning and rest, I'm lost

Even though they numb the area first, I can still feel it every time the shot goes in. I got a bonus shot yesterday too, he gave me three injections of Novocaine and waited the normal amount of time, came in, started drilling and I could still feel it. So he had to give me another shot in the gum in the back near the tooth. he said it would probably be sore for a few days, he wasn't kidding. It fucking hurts

There's a few Marcos down in Jacksonville and up in Savannah, but nowhere in between. Georgios looks regional. If they're the same company, Romeo's is up in Atlanta.

It sure pays to know an electrician...had the guy that does all the electrical stuff here at the shop come over last week. He rewired all our faulty light switches so that they all work now, figured out what 3 mystery light switches went to and set those up so we can use them, and put a brand new light fixture over the bathtub in the master bathroom, climbing in and out of the million degree attic several times in the process. He was there for the better part of 7 hours and charged me only $430
