So, last night we went to the wedding/reception venue for one of their food tastings sol we can help decide what we'd like for the menu at the wedding reception. Now, I'm the first to admit, I'm fairly picky when it comes to food, there's lotsa things I don't like  I'm not much for vegetables or exotic flavors or stuff like that. But, I have to say, everything that I tried last night I thought tasted great, so I was looking forward to this being a smooth and easy discussion with the g/f

:|

She didn't like much of anything....the chicken tasted funny, the veal had a weird texture, the bowtie pasta was too bland....it was like that for almost everything.

Suck it up, man. It's one day that she's been looking forward to for her entire life (assuming she's not divorced). One day. Make sure she's absolutely happy with everything that y'all have control over and that she has happy memories of her wedding day. She will never forget. And she will make sure that you will never forget either.

I feel your pain. The last truly breathtaking performance of our national anthem was Whitney Houston's at a Super bowl a while back. Every year since then, it's been one ego trip or god-awful performance after another.

There's a AA minor league affiliate of the Miami Marlins (Mlb) relatively close by. Seat sections do vary by price but they're rarely above $40 for relatively good seats. It's a good night out in the summer. There used to be a minor league hockey team as well, but they closed down a while back. Last year, there were some rumors that the ECHL might bring a team close by, but nothing's happened yet.

Preach.

It fucking sucks. I'm tempted to find a friend or two to go in on a 12-game pack in the upper bowl, so you ate least get a bit of a deal off the single-ticket face value prices. More of an investment but at leat you'd get 3-4 games a year at a more affordable price overall...

Nearest minor league baseball team is the Sky Sox and they're in Colorado Springs, at least an hours drive south (can be much worse, depending on traffic) and the nearest minor league hockey team is in Ft Collins, same problem as going to Colorado Springs, except in the opposite direction, north of the city.

I just looked, the most expensive seat at the Rapids is $59...very reasonable compared to the 4 major teams in town (Rockies, Broncos, Avalanche, and Nuggets). The other sports with reasonably priced tix are the Mammoth (indoor lacrosse) and the Outlaws (outdoor lacrosse - went to one of their games a few years ago, was a lot of fun).

We have the Vancouver Whitecaps here. Only been to two games but the atmosphere is NUTS. It's bar far the craziest fan base over hockey, football or the NBA (when we had it years back). I'm not a soccer fan but their fans absolutely make it. Singing, dancing, chirping the refs and other team. It was a blast.

Hockey fans here (and in some other expensive cities I hear) are just stoic as all hell these days... quietly crying into their $9 beers that they can't afford rent after buying the tickets

Actually, I just looked. They reduced prices this year, so all tickets are going to be less than or equal to $18 for individual games. I'm gonna go down there a lot this year.

To kind of answer GF....I altered my life to work at home and took a job with great benefits (I was off for 2 months when my daughter was born on Parental leave - my wife took the other 10 months.) I work from 7:15am - 3:35pm and I get every 2nd monday off. I get paid a bunch less than friends who work a whole lot more hours than me. My house is not very modernized as I don't have the cash (and don't want the debt).

It's true what they say...more money, more problems. Most of my friends who are much better off than I have marital, or kid woes galore. We're very middle class (not poor but not by any means rich)

A friend is now in heavy debt because his eldest needed braces. My lower paying, but good benefits job (along with my wife's plan - she works part time) paid for my daughter's braces in full. He's taken the family to Disney, to the Maritimes many times but has debt and worries galore. I have 4k left on the car (which will be gone by November), other car paid off, and a house that's 1/2 paid off.

He's worried because his daughter is now 13 (like mine) and unlike mine has "the gift of grab" as he calls it, or she wants the best stuff. He doesn't say "no" most times...we do!

I see people blowing through yield signs and cutting into traffic all the time. People are ridiculous.

They have a cone zone on the interstate every morning going to work, and it runs for several miles (and has been going on for months). They have it almost always closed down from 3 lines to one, so they have added additional yield signs at the end of all the on ramps because there is only one lane of traffic to pull into. Nearly every morning I see some idiot just try and speed down the on ramp and muscle their way into traffic. If I had a rental car for one morning, I'd hit one of those fucking morons. :|

Or, you get the exact opposite, you will be behind someone who comes to a yield sign, and there is no oncoming traffic, yet they come to a complete stop as if it was a stop sign. :|

Is it safe to refreeze meat after it has thawed?

The U. S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) advises: Once food is thawed in the refrigerator, it is safe to refreeze it without cooking, although there may be a loss of quality due to the moisture lost through thawing. After cooking raw foods which were previously frozen, it is safe to freeze the cooked foods.

Salsa Autentica. It's got vinegar in it, and that usually turns me off, but it's not that bad and it's got a decent amount of heat for a jarred grocery store shelf salsa. My sister gave it to me. I chucked the other salsas I had in the fridge out the proverbial window.

Got a ticket on Friday afternoon...allegedly for running a red light on a right turn. I'm 99.99% sure the light was still yellow when I entered the intersection and from where the cop was parked, I'm not entirely sure he had a good view of the traffic signals either. When he pulled me over, he told me that I need to come to a complete stop before turning right on red. I told him I was pretty sure the light was still yellow and then he admitted to me it was close.

Not sure if I should go and contest the ticket or not. The only time I did contest a traffic ticket, I had to lose time from work and the ticket ended up actually costing me more because even though they reduced the fine, they added court costs onto the fine which ended up being higher than the fine reduction. Plus, the point reduction was the same as I could have received if I had just paid the ticket early. :-k

No camera and no recorded proof of what the cop said, but he did say it.

That's the way I'm leaning, but in this instance, I really feel that I'm no guilty, I kn ow that light wasn't red when I initiated the turn. :meh:

Good to see your cops are just like ours, out there busting the hardened criminals

AC-DC is rescheduling their US tour. Apparently, Brian Johnson has been a dumbass for 30 years and hasn't worn any kind of hearing protection so now he's losing his hearing. All tour dates will be rescheduled at a later date, likely with a guest vocalist.

My sister and her husband just drove up to Atlanta to go to the show at Philips Arena tonight. They won't be happy when they find out that they drove up there for nothing.

It really is sad. All of our heroes are getting old and it doesn't look like they're aging gracefully. Furthermore, it doesn't look like there are a whole lot of good younger options to take up their flag.

I tried Smack-Yo-Mama's Death Wish hot sauce. I was expecting to get my ass kicked but it wasn't that bad... the heat doesn't hit you right away, it sneaks up on you and then lingers for a bit. Pretty good taste too.

I'm thinking that we're going to hear of a lot more deaths from here on in...the glut of the population - the baby boomers - are now dying off.

Canada's baby boom was about an 18 year period and I'm on the tail end of it (I'm 50). One of my brother's is 18 years older than me and he's right in the area of boomers.

I'm about fed up with my skyrocketing cable bill. It's now over $200 for cable and internet.

A few months back they "doubled my internet speed for free!", now they raised the price from $40 to $66.
