Going house hunting this afternoon (or more like townhouse/condo hunting because real estate here is fucked)... not looking forward to it but we need to move :lol: We've seriously grown out of our little apartment. Moving sucks though.

There are teardowns going for over $2.4 million in 'Vancouver proper' (ie. not the subburbs)... my parents house is a 2500 sq/ft 1985 home with modest renovations that's 20 minutes outside the city and even houses on their street are going for over $1 million down.

It's truly a fucked up situation. The local governments say they want to do something but really I don't think they know where to start. Something like 40% of millionaires in China have already or would like to buy a home in Vancouver in the next 5 years I once read.

I'm probably not qualified to answer but this city has been a hub Chinese immigration for a century, right from the early days of Vancouver when they were used as slave labor to build the railroad. Now Chinese is over 40% of the demographic in some municipalities.

Don't get me wrong - lovely people, food, some cool culture, and immigration is extremely important to Canada. But now that there are thousands of millionaires in China, it's the 'hot' thing to do buy here which has run the market amok. It's seen as a way for them to get money out of China to sooth unease about their economic future.

I've heard there are sometimes real-estate marketers in Chinese cities advertising Vancouver properties even.

It's tempting to move but my family and friends are all here, my wife has a 4-year contract here... I'd still rather spend $800k and have an 900 sq/ft condo than leave.

For sure man! That's our thought too. Rent is actually a REALLY lucrative investment here. So many condos and homes are vacant (apparently up to 50% downtown - they're currently studying it) with overseas landlords, so the few properties that are rented are in huge demand. Two bedroom condos downtown can easily rent for $2300/month

That was weird. Turned the computer off, unplugged it, opened it up and cleaned all the dust out. I closed it up, plugged it back in, and turned it on... and the sound wouldn't work. I went and downloaded the sound drivers again (cause that's what the computer messaged me to do) and I tried to reinstall them, and a message popped up saying that I needed to restart my computer before reinstalling because some hardware change or some shit like that. So I did. The computer restarts, and the sound's working as if nothing ever happened.

There's at least a foot of snow out there already and it's still snowing like a bitch, blizzard conditions everywhere. Most major highways are closed due to bad roads and/or accidents. No flights going in or out of the airport.
