A) Ask if she has a preference for dinner. No idea? Okay, go to b)
B) Here are 3 options, do you want to pick one? No idea? Okay, go to c)
C) She gets what I make. Don't like it? You're on your own.

Why are there so many
Songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
Rainbows are visions
But only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide

So we've been told
And some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see
Some day we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me

I feel very conflicted inside....it's been just over 8 weeks since my dad passed and there isn't a day gone by yet that I haven't thought of him in one way or another and I really miss him a lot. But I'm also relieved that he's gone because of the way things were the 8 months he was in the hospital/nursing home and even before then, when he was still living with us, the tension he brought to the household and put on me and my family.

My old man died in 1993. The process of his deterioration was rough on us all, but especially mom. To this day, I think about him all the time and still tell stories. But the stories I tell are not about the end nor how hard it was. I tell stories about being a kid at Wrigley and how we thought dad was teaching us to keep score on a scorecard, when really it was a babysiting tool. LOL. I tell stories about his buddy who went to Greek town with us before Hawks games, always ordering wine at the Parthenon by telling the waiter "give me a bottle of that watered down red shit". I tell stories about dad lecturing me about my first suit and how "wing tips are the only business shoe". I tell stories about my career-GM dad's reaction to my even suggesting I might buy a Honda. LOL (maddest I had ever seen him).

The point is, it's hard not to focus on the tough times at the end. But, in time, you'll remember the things that made you smile as what defines your dad.

I'm sorry Lance...didn't know. Sincerest condolences. Been there, for sure.

You probably feel guilty, but don't. The fact you brought him into your home speaks volumes about how much you cared. When our parents age it is like they become children again and we have to be their parent. That's tough enough right there, and now you have to cope with his passing too.

Like its been said before...allow yourself some time. Will it get better? No, but it will get easier.

Find a way to release. I would drive to the ocean because it reminded me of my dad. Don't be afraid of it...grieving is a process and has many phases and steps.

Sometimes when it all got too much, I'd go out to the ocean late at night and scream my fucking head off until I realised how ridiculous I must have looked if anyone else was there. My wife, after losing her mom arranged for laser tag with the family.

You'll get through this. It may be 2 steps forward, one step back, but you will get through it.

I was listening to the Padres radio announcers on satellite last night. he tried to explain the cubs season.

Well, 1908 was a long time ago, and 1954 was the last pennant. So I know they are partying at Wrigley and having a good time [sarcastic tone], but it's about the post season. There is no president's award for the best regular season record like in hockey, and if there was, no one would care. The fact is, if this ends with anything other than the Cubs as the last team standing, it will just be yet another disappointing Cubs season.

Let it sink in that you can produce, package, and ship on a boat from China to CA, pay Amazon fees, and make a profit for less than domestic shipping. Now consider that the USPS cut a deal with the Chinese to make it cheaper to ship to a US address from China than CA.

I told him about the sale going on at the website and he said he could get the same gun for me for $625, no shipping and no FFL transfer fee. I said ok. I gave them my contact info and they'll call me when it's in and I'll save a few bucks in the process. I might have to wait a little bit but who cares. I'll have what I'm after and before the election is over. If the bitch gets in, she'll probably try to institute another assault weapons ban like her husband did in the 90s, but if I own it before it goes into effect I'll be grandfathered in.

Yep, I want to get my CCL before the election and might buy something similar that potentially would be on a ban list. I've a store close to work that tends to have below average prices on everything, that's where I got both my pistol and rifle. Only thing I'm worried about is raising a red flag somewhere if I buy a third gun in less than 12 months.
Speaking of my CCL, there's an old Army reserve center at the top of my street (5 minute walk) that's been empty for years, seems someone bought it and is opening a new firearms place in it! Will have a gun shop, indoor handgun and rifle range (up to 5.56 rifle I believe) also offering CCL and a variety of tactical and safety training classes. I'm pretty excited to have someplace so close opening in the next few weeks hopefully.

Yep, I want to get my CCL before the election and might buy something similar that potentially would be on a ban list. I've been buying guns on a 6+ month schedule. I think I'm about over 6 months to a year since I've bought the M&P9C. It was 6 months before that when I bought the full size M&P9. I still want to get a shotgun but I guess it can wait a while.

I keep meaning to get my CCL. I've had the money put away in a side compartment in my wallet for the past year and a half now, but I've been too lazy to get up to the County Probate Court to apply for it.

We don't have a local range open to the general public here. There's one dedicated to LE and Mil, but the rest of us regular folk have to drive to the next county over to get to one that we can use. It's a pain in the ass. People have been screaming at the county commissioners for years about it. They keep talking and talking but they never do anything about it. There was a write up in the local paper last week about the county commissioners talking about opening the local range up to the rest of us but we'll see how that goes. They've said it before a while back and nothing happened.

Here for the CCL we need to take an 8 hour course (6hr classroom/2 hours shooting) before applying with the sheriffs dept. Many places offer the class but not too many have both the classroom and range on site. A coworker did a groupon for the class in Feb, they forgot to tell everyone the shooting part was at an outdoor range 15 miles away. Some of them froze their asses off.

As far as ranges go there's one close to work that's indoor (handgun only) and there are a couple outdoor ranges within 30 minutes. Having an indoor range that handles both pistol and rifle so close to home will be nice in the wintertime. During the summer I have a few places I can shoot regularly up on the island. Might actually do a little target practice this weekend.

There's no training requirement for the GWL in GA, if you're 21 and above. 18 to 20 year olds have to take a training class, unless they're military. I don't know about any time requirements for the class or what's involved in it regarding instruction and shooting. If it's anything like the state required driver's ed. class that I took back when I was 16, then it's probably a joke. I think most gun owners in GA have been handling guns since they were kids and their parents probably taught them better than any gun instructor ever could. Apparently the GA state legislature understands that. That's just the way things are down here. My neighbor's kids have both been handling guns since they were 8 years old, and their youngest daughter (now 20) is a sharpshooter. I wouldn't want to get into a gunfight with her, she's wicked fast and incredibly accurate.

I think that the dentist office that I go to is kind of like a 'training facility' for hygienists because they are always different all the time. The office is shared by 5 different dentists and there are quite a few hygienists on staff there all the time.

A training facility for hygienists? I'm not so sure about that. I'm pretty sure that hygienists enroll in a dental program at some kind of dental school or a university that has a dental program there. I'm not sure about clinical internships or anything like that. I'm pretty sure everything is handled in-house at the program facility (independent dental school or university program).

What kind of reviews has your dentist's office gotten online?

That doesn't exactly tell me that they're well-regarded by the general public, Lance.

I mean, don't get me wrong, if you like the dentist that you see, then that's cool. I love my dentist. I think she's as cool as cool can be. I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world, that's how awesome my dentist is. But her entire office is awesome too. Seriously, I love everybody in that office. And I'm kind of hard to warm up to people initially, so they had to earn it. And they did, rather quickly. My hygienist too. She rocks.

Maybe you should ask your dentist about the hygienist situation in their office.

So funny - our local schools are going to, or are at least looking into doing away with grades as it's "unfair" and all that...but in order to get a school locker today (for Tuesday for my gonna-be-in-high-school daughter) we had to log in to a website which opened at 8am and snag a locker before other people got the "good spots." Not sure which was great, but picked one that was close to her classes.

Isn't that kinda the same thing? Eliminating competition by doing away with grade letters but competing for lockers? Kinda proves the point that life is a competition sometimes.

Hey, speaking of avoiding the war zone.... A couple foreign girls working on the island here will be doing some traveling before heading home, I asked where they wanted to see before going back? They said things like Vegas, LA, Grand canyon and for some reason both of them said Chicago.

We had some mild wind (for a tropical storm, that is) and rain. The eye wall missed us by like 50-75 miles, so we didn't have to deal with that shit. I've got the majority of it in pieces, there's just two screw/nut combos holding two pieces together that I need to separate. Together, I can't just throw it in the receptacle. Apart, I can.

Now in this 30min ride we talk about some of everything like Uber, kids, schools, neighborhoods, just some of everything. At dropoff pax gets out, we say our goodbyes but then the main pax turns back and comes to my driver window and hands me a $100 bill and tells me it's for my kids! WHAT?! I wanted to get out and hug the man but he walked away. I sat there for a sec holding back tears. I couldn't believe it!

Yes. Good people do exist. And congrats on an amazing tip! I will admit to having mixed feelings about this. But that's on me.

fellow driver
What do you mean by mixed feelings?

me
On one hand, it's awesome. I am thrilled for you. Truly. On the other hand, it's disproportionate. People love to give money to people who have kids they can't afford. I am not sure if it's charity, guilt, or condesention. As a white, male, non-breeder, I would never get a tip like that.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that at all. What I'm saying is that the way you said it to him, according to your own post, my knee-jerk reaction was that you seemed to be condemning the man you were talking to as a person who shouldn't have kids. I know, or at least, I hope that's not what you actually meant, but looking at it objectively, the dude could have felt that you were condemning him the way I initially thought you were. So I'm asking, was it warranted to imply that, even though I know logically that that was more than likely not your intent?

Did you intend to insult this guy with a veiled insult, and was it warranted? Should this guy not have kids?

I was simply pointing out that the person received the tip as charity for the tale of woe they told, rather than any connection to driving. And since people love to give money to people who have children in poverty, putting yourself in that circumstance, then spinning it as a circumstance beyond your control, increases the likelihood of receiving gifts of charity. Since I do not have kids that have to go to a shitty school in a shitty neighborhood, such acts of kindness are less likely to gestured toward me. So while I am truly happy for the woman, the level of giving to people whose circumstances (regarding children) are largely self-inflicted, is disproportionately directly to poor children.

Expanding...The cycle is stimulated and perpetuated when bringing more kids into shitty circumstances increases benefits. This is true of almost all poverty programs and also true of charitable giving.

Actually no, but I am not shy about provocative ideas. I was musing about the fact that she didn't receive receive a tip. What she received was an act of charity based on her story. Insult? No, I was thinking about loud about the nature of charity.

Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home
You don't know which way to go?
If you're goin' down South
They go no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago.
Ah! Ah! Ah!

Why do some manufacturers put their OBD2 ports under places where scruffy peoples' filth collects and in order to gain access to said port, you have to flip up covers and the filth stuck to those covers go everywhere because it can't be done gently? Cunts

I believe I've gotten rid of all of the nasty shit off of my computer, and if I ever figure out how to run a bootable rescue cd with a wireless mouse then I'll know for sure. I think I've downloaded just about every freestanding malware checker I could get my hands on. But the little bastard messed some junk up. I had to reinstall some minor stuff here and there, readjust some settings, and Firefox still isn't running right. Just a minor issue, but it's still pissing me off.

I'd hate to have to run to the store to get a wired mouse just so I can run a few cd boot scanners.

I really don't feel like wiping the drive clean and reinstalling everything.

You do realise that the details for this account along with several other accounts I have including the yahoo account I used for the nfl fantasy league aren't actually important and the loss of passwords or account names don't adversely affect me in any way irl right? The details of my personal email, online shopping emails and accounts, bank accounts etc (you know, the ones that actually matter) are all stored in my head.

DemonGeminiX
09-13-2016, 01:22 AM
I'm not arguing with you over the first part. Point of view and all that shit.

Second part: I have 20 different email addresses. Approximately. I don't really keep track in my head but it's probably closer to 23 or 24. I use 3 of them for personal reasons that I consider to be important. And like you, they're memorized. It's a necessity, that's just the way it is, and obviously you'll agree with that, because you just posted the same pov yourself. The others are all burner accounts that aren't nearly as important... but I still have the addresses and passwords written down for all of them.... just in case. They come in handy from time to time. Mainly for random hi-jinx, but still. I keep them around because it's getting to be a pain in the ass to set burners up and I knew way back when I set them up that it would eventually get harder to set these up and remain anonymous while doing so as time moved on. And I was right. It is harder to set up new accounts without having to give up some personal information that I'd rather keep off the grid. Look at what they ask you for to set up a Yahoo account now. I don't want them to have my cell number. I don't want my random burner accounts at Gmail to have it either. But I don't need to worry about it, because I have multiple accounts with those services and several others, and I got them before they started asking for that shit. Now I don't have to worry about it. I can do all the anonymous rabble-rousing that my heart desires. I'm not using them 99% of the time, but every once in a while, I find the need, and they are available when I do find the need.
