I'm close enough to the coastline that the area would get flooded by a surge. My house is wheelchair accessible so it's not very high. The house would get flooded. And I'm surrounded by woods, so high winds would probably knock the shit down on my house. It is a brick house, and it has hurricane straps, so it might stand... but then again, the kind of forces we're talking about.... I might have to sift through the rubble to find something that might have survived.

We'll see what happens. The projections will be constantly updated and I'll know for sure what's up sometime Wednesday morning.

If it stays out at sea, then it more than likely won't be a problem for me. If it hits land early, it'll weaken. If it's a cat 1 or 2, I probably won't bother moving an inch. If I'm facing a cat 3 or higher, I'm gone.

Not too far. Luckily, there's a military base between the coast and my place, so they'll bear the brunt of the surge, along with the barrier island. I'm in a hotel on the Florida panhandle right now. It's out to sea a little way, so I might get lucky.

Get a natural gas powered one that can be piped so you don't need supplies, it should automatically kick in. Decide what you want to run and choose a model with that capacity. You don't need to run the whole house.

The automatic ones are expensive. If you are electrically inclined at all, you could do what I've done. I have 6,000watt (8,000 peak) portable gen, with a 40 amp 208v receptacle. When and if I loose power for several days, I hook it up inside my outside brake panel, unwiring the main breaker, and tieing the gen output to the brakes box terminals. I have a light on my power meter that will let me know when service is back on. My gen is rated to run 10-12 hrs on 50% load per tank (3 gal) I keep 10 gals of gas, with long term storage fuel stabilizer on hand at all times. Total cost was around $700. I used the fuel in my riding mower throughoutthe year as well to prevent it going bad. I've hooked the gen up, and I can run my water well, most lights, ceiling fans, refrigerator and deep freeze all at the same time with very minor voltage drop. My plan would be to run gen for a couple hours a day, to pump water, and keep fridge and freezer cold, not run it constantly.

I bought a new oven last week. Had a delivery date of today. Received confirmation emails and texts. Got automated call this morning saying delivery time would be from noon to 2pm. I then removed my old oven. At 14:02, I got a text saying delivery was rescheduled to the 17th. Well fuck me, I'll be back at work in Odessa then. Called salesman, and he's trying to get free installation now since I won't be here, but, he couldn't tell me why delivery was rescheduled. Called customer service and they said it was because they don't have the oven at warehouse. While that isn't unusual, common practice is to inform customer of that and schedule delivery accordingly. I'm pissed because it's like they lied to me.

I tend to agree. Only went there as a somewhat last resort. I had a specific model I wanted, due to size limitations, and they said they had it. I had moly stopped going there when the screwed me over on some craftsman ratchet and a wood router years ago. I did get some really good sales on made in US wrenches and sockets a couple years ago though. No matter what, if that oven isn't installed on the 17th, I will never go back.

There weren't many kids last year and the ones that did swing by were rude as hell or way too old to be out trick or treating, so instead of giving out candy, I ended up being the local dick giving out verbal beatdowns. It's not like the stores are running out of candy any time soon.

I usually go hardcore horror and work my way back to the original Halloween movies. Sometimes I'll find a channel that's running marathons and I'll stick with those but so far I haven't been interested in anything that's been playing. They have the old school Universal monster movies down at Walmart and I've considered picking up a few of them, but haven't done so yet. Like the original Dracula, Frankenstein, blah blah, blah. I have a pretty extensive horror collection on DVD, but I don't have those. I figured I might wait until after the holiday, to see if the prices would drop, but really, I'm just really focused on some of the bigger purchases that I have to make outside of holiday concerns. I need a gun safe and I seriously think I should grab an AR-15 before the election. I mean seriously think I need to grab that. I still need to get my brakes done on my car and a bunch of other things that need to be done to my car... so yeah, I think my cash is pretty much spoken for right now. And the funny thing is, those movies from the 1930s don't go out of style, seeing as how they're still around even though they're from the '30s. So I think I've got time with respect to the film acquisitions.

One of my elderly neighbors tried to kill herself this morning by ODing on Xanax. Apparently she's been depressed since cancer took her husband a year ago. The police and EMTs had the street blocked off while they got her out of the house. I have a feeling she won't be living there for very much longer.

That house she lives in seems to be plagued with bad luck. I've never met the people that built the house, but the family that lived there after, the grandmother died there. They had to leave because they just didn't feel right about living there after she passed. The family after that, their daughter died of cancer, the mother was fighting cancer, and they were evicted because of all the bills that piled up while taking care of the both of them. Somebody bought it after them and used it as a rental property. A family rented it and they were a fucking joy (/sarcasm). Trailer park white trash that took advantage of the 2007 housing crisis. After the landlord evicted them, he sold the house to the current family. And now everything's fallen apart with them. Bad luck.
