Bad hailstorm came thru the city last night. Hailed at my house, but luckily the hailstones weren't much bigger than pea sized to a few that were maybe as big as a dime. But, the southwest part of the city, down by where I work got nailed hard. I missed being stuck in it by about 20 minutes. I guess it took out the back windows on a couple of the guys cars here, I'll find out when they come in. The pix above are from a local news channel that had people send pix in.

According to what I've read, if there isn't detrimental effects right off the bat, then the cat should adjust in a little bit of time. You might have a few pee and poo accidents in the beginning, but as long as the cat hasn't lost her rear leg functions (losing the tail could paralyze a cat), then she should bounce back. She may lose a little bit of her ability for graceful movements, but she'll compensate and be ok in the long run. At least that's what the article said. I'm trying to find the article again.

The vet thought she'd be fine in a week. We did ask about using the litter box and he didn't think it would be an issue. It was only her tail stuck in the mechanism and it doesn't appear there were any other injuries. But man, you should see the pictures of the drive shaft after I pulled it apart. There was no way we could have gotten her out tail intact without removing the entire thing and smashing the motor away from the shaft. I really should write the manufacturer - that shaft should be guarded better.

I tried making cold brew coffee... basically you just let a cup of coarse ground coffee steep in a liter of water overnight, then strain it. It's supposed to be less acidic and more caffeinated, and it's hot right here now so I thought what the hell.

It's actually pretty good. Put about a third of it in a mug with the rest hot water, or drink it over ice with milk. Has a really nice strong flavor and it's naturally sweeter than hot brewed coffee. Another perk is that I now have it in a jar in my fridge ready to go before work for the week.
