It didn't get any darker than around early dusk here, it was still pretty bright out. The thing that was really neat was you could feel the difference in temperature, it easily dropped 15 degrees outside.

And it's completely overcast here. Wouldn't be able to see it even if I did have glasses. It's probably as dark as it's going to get right now... and it just looks like a storm is brewing.

We've been having a bright, sunny day. The shadows did something weird about an hour ago, like it was later in the fall season. Other than that, wouldn't know an eclipse happened at all.

So I have been driving for (a large internet retailer). This morning, I am there to load. In front of me is a millennial, behind me is a fat black woman. As the black woman pulls in behind me, she pulls up too far leaving no room for me to load. I gesture with my finger that she needs to back up and she gets shitty with me, barking "you mind if I straighten my car first?!?" And leaves about a foot behind (so still no room to load). I shook my head, laughed at her, and rolled my eyes. She got out with a shitty attitude.

I am fully loaded and ready to go. The black woman is maybe 25% done and the millennial is acting like he needs to inspect and analyze every package before placing it in it's perfect spot, also far behind. :| I am just standing there. He finally places the last package, and I'm like "alright, good, let's go to fucking work!". Then he closes the door, does not move out of my way, and goes to the bathroom. You fucking fuck. :| Fatty McBlackerson is still not done. jesus.

I weave my way to get out to go work, leaving both lazy unproductive asses in the warehouse.

I'm a dinosaur. But a dinosaur who finishes my routes early almost every shift.

Gotta photograph, picture of
Passion killer, you're too much

I see your face every time I dream
On every page, every magazine
So wild and free so far from me
You're all I want, my fantasy

I want to get into Tool, I just don't know where to start. The few songs I've listened to have been pretty different, I didn't immediately like it TBH but all of my buddies go craaazy when they come to town. Apparently their show here last month was phenomenal.

Start with the albums:

Opiate (EP)
Undertow
Aenima
Lateralus
10000 Days

There's a live album called Salival that goes in there somewhere, but as I'm generally not a fan of live albums, I don't own it.

Personally, my favorite album is Aenima.

Also Maynard sings for A Perfect Circle as well, so you may want to pick up or download those albums. Thirteenth Step is a fantastic album from start to finish.

3 feet of rain????

I've only been involved in one flood, June 2013 in our fair city. It was surreal to see our entire downtown area locked down and impassable. Our river banks only rose a couple of feet and that was enough to shut down part of our city. I helped move food and supply boxes for two days and even seeing a low level flood was enough.

I can't imagine hurricanes, tsunamis....that degree of water and storms.

They start screaming when Floyd tags Conor in the 10th and keeps hitting him. "How does it feel to be schooled by a 40 year old? That's the way to knock him out! Look at Conor get his ass beat by a better fighter!"

They start screaming when Floyd tags Conor in the 10th and keeps hitting him. "How does it feel to be schooled by a 40 year old? That's the way to knock him out! Look at Conor get his ass beat by a better fighter!"

I don't think the guys watching have fought much themselves or understand boxing. A guy who fights in a completely different sport just went 10 rounds with the best boxer in the class. There was no schooling or knock out.

:+1:

Conor was amazing. If he sticks with it, he could be a monster in the boxing ring.

Godfather

Agreed, Conor's stamina looked lacking near the end but I doubt you'll find anyone who genuinely believed he'd stand and fight for 10 rounds. It was great.

Also, god is Floyd ever a boring boxer  I think people are relieved he said that's his last fight.

Every time the dude picks up the composting, I find the bin laying on its side in the middle of the alley. I've seen the trucks, it's an automated clamp that he can see from the cab.

Good to hear Kev. I can't believe the reports of how much rain came down in some places. Measured in tonnage, not inches or feet.

And conversely, for the first time in 52 years our lawn turned brown and went dormant this summer. No natural disaster, just a few light winters and no precipitation all year. We have a typically dry climate but this has gone past unusual.

I know you're joking but it is the little things. In 2013 I helped with our flood and worked in an area that looked exactly like that picture. Water almost up to your knees. They told us to wear clothes we could throw away afterwards and supplied us with rubber boots. I was unloading trucks by hand, walking the boxes over to a raised area for a couple of days.

Day two the Army Navy truck shows up, gives out hip waders, gloves and boots...and there was much rejoicing from us, the helpers.

Our flood was nothing like the Houston flood, but people living on the river still lost their homes to damage or paid thousands to renovate. There were a couple of underground parking garages downtown. They filled up...cars within started floating around and banging into each other. Our flood happened over the space of a few hours...and people were evacuated immediately without choice or discussion. So at that moment, it was the little things that mattered. Hot meals, tents being donated, people with homes outside of the flood area opening their doors to strangers to sleep over for a few days. Some of the support was pretty cool to hear about.

Around 40 dollars give or take depending on which side of the border you're on.

Oh man  Depth doesn't even begin to cover this game. I did a few tutorials and was lost on the 'simple' explanations just trying to get a basic ship into orbit. It's essentially this huge sandbox game where you create vehicles, complete missions and contracts, and do science experiments to gain points and advance in a tech tree of parts. Failure is expected and happens often, thereby creating your learning curve. I got lost when they explained the apoapsis and periapsis of orbits

Imagine this - In sandbox mode you can choose any part you want and click it on the vehicle. Then, you right click on the part and can adjust a myriad of things within the part. Thrusters, decouplers, boosters, electrical devices, burn ratios...knowing what to do and when to do it is half the battle.

I created a simple two stage rocket with the intent of a suborbital flight (launch the rocket, go up a few kilometers, burn all fuel and come back down using a parachute) and three hours later I got the staging correct so my fuel tank didn't jettison at the same time my parachute opened  On my first attempt at achieving orbit, they made me build a ship and it had five stages I had to organize. Staging is what order you put things in during a chain of events.

I can't relay here how complex or deep this game is. There's a sandbox mode with all parts and tech trees available, a science mode where you learn how to build rockets and collect science data, and a career mode where you earn money and science points to advance in the game.

Oh yeah...there are Kerbal pilots, scientists, engineers that look cute (think Minions with green faces) and you take them on missions. They gain experience from doing EVA's outside of the craft and experiments (and living through missions). There's an inflight graphic of their face when flying and the expressions are hilarious depending on what you're doing. I put one pilot in a 17G spin, because I wasn't using the pitch, yaw and attitude controls properly and his look was pure

You can also build planes and other vehicles. There is an entire solar system of planets and moons they want you to visit. Since I can't even get my ghetto trashcan into orbit, it will probably be weeks before I can attempt career mode and leave the planet.

I start the tutorials around 8:30 last night....look at the clock again and it's 12:30..and I haven't even got a ship into orbit yet

Youtube vid with an astronaut trying to play it and he's amazed at the realworld physics and tweaking necessary for lift, fuel use and steps involved to achieve orbit. Did you know that getting into orbit is simply trying to overshoot a mark and then falling in controlled manner until physics help the craft stabilize? Ya, me too...

Hal you playing anything else recently? If I remember right you're not so big on online games, but I'm loving Playerunknown's Battlegrounds right now. Basically 100 players in 1, 2 or 4 man teams all parachute from a plane onto a 2km x 2km open island with small towns and villages where you have to loot houses and pick up weapons, ammo and other gear, and find vehicles to move around. The playable zone slowly shrinks forcing you to fight closer and closer to each other. Last team or man standing wins the round (usually takes around 20-30 mins a game if you survive till the end). It's hilarious and surprisingly intense near the end.

Tip: If you have a wireless USB mouse and you have the dongle plugged into a back USB port of your desktop computer, and the mouse is having a dodgy performance, skipping, not clicking, jumping all over the place... if you have a front USB port, plug the dongle into that instead and your issues should clear up. I don't know why, but I'm thinking that the electronics inside the computer (possibly a wireless internet connection?) is causing havoc/interfering with the wireless signal your mouse needs to do its thing.

That's what happened to me.

Yeah, my mouse is on the 2.4 GHz range... and so is my wireless connection. My mouse was all dodgy but the wireless was fine. I guess I know which one's stronger.

In other news, Irma is now a Cat 5 and it looks like it may hit South Florida. We'll know more in a few days or so, but best to start getting prepared. I may need to evac... or maybe not. Not sure yet.

The crazy thing is that there's two more systems looking to develop into hurricanes, one in the Gulf down by Mexico, and one right behind Irma.

The only thing I don't have is a hotel room booked, but I'll sort that out once I know where this bitch is headed and where I need to go to avoid it. I may just hunker down, but if we're told to evacuate and I can't find any open rooms, I have friends in Atlanta and Tennessee. I may just head out to the Panhandle like I did last year with Matthew. I already had the oil changed earlier this month. They told me it was fine, but the exhaust system will need to be looked at in a little while. It's making a little noise when I start the car up. But it's nothing detrimental. Maybe a little corrosion in the catalytic converter. It can wait. It's not hurting the car's operation any. I'm good for a little road trip.

Don't go, stick it to The Man :hand:

I'm gonna wait and see where this thing curves to. If she comes up into Florida like the models have been projecting, I'll head out on Saturday or Sunday. I'll know by Saturday night/Sunday morning. I'll probably have to push out to Alabama or up to Tennessee. It seems everything's booked up, hotel-wise, in Georgia away from the coast. I couldn't find anything in North Georgia. I'll check the hotels in the Panhandle again in a day or so.

The current forecast line has it slamming into the southeastern part of Florida down by Miami, then curving back out to the Atlantic and up into Savannah/South Carolina. If that holds, we'll get some heavy winds and a some flooding. I'm not sure how much flooding, because when Matthew swung by last year, I was in a house closer to the coastline and the ground was barely wet the day after when we got home, and the house was fine. That was ground level. I think the brunt of the surge was taken by the base and the barrier islands. There was a little flooding downtown, but nowhere near where I was. The house I'm in now is supposedly on higher ground and further away from the coast by 10-15 miles.

Regardless, if I have to move, I'll be like Fievel and go west.
