Not in garage in guesthouse, yes, sure sheet rock and insulation got wet. Just going to wait to see. Already srayed with bleach/water solution. Mostly waiting to see what subfloor (plywood) does. Already plan to replace damaged sheet rock with wainscoating.

Every time a new path projection is released on the NOAA NHC site, it becomes more favorable to my area. Now it's saying that we'll see tropical storm force stuff on Monday, and it's pulling away from the coast, moving towards the center of Georgia. So we'll probably see the edge of it, according to current projections. We won't get it full on. If it keeps going the way it has been, these future projections may very put this hurricane in the Gulf, away from Georgia completely. That would spell trouble for the coastal Gulf region, but it would be good for the east coast.

I know there have always been some commercials out there that make men look like complete idiots, but is it just me or is it getting worse? Seems like 95% of ads on TV anymore (where some kind of dynamic is shown, usually in a family concept) show men to be nothing more than fucking morons.

Absolutely correct! The worst things we lost were about 95% of holiday decorations. Most handmade by myself, wife or friends and family. Overall, we're extremely fortunate we got of as light as we did. Went today and helped some friends that had 6ft of water in their home. They literally lost everything except for lives. Soo freaking sad. They are just a couple out of 10 of thousands. Irma looks to be a real dangerous destructive storm too.

Sister is coming to visit this weekend. The funeral home for my Dad plants a tree in his honor and puts the name on a granite marker in a large city park and they're having a ceremony on the 16, 17th. We haven't had a funeral or celebration of life yet for him, because as shitty as it sounds, we're waiting for my Mom to pass away and then we're going to have a large gathering for both.

:( Not sure I agree with our plan because there's some missing closure. Hopefully this weekend helps with that.

I'm guessing zero because if they did, the total would be much higher. I mean Sandra Bullock donated $1 million all by herself to the Harvey relief fund. If each of those celebs in the telethon had done the same, the total should be triple or quadruple.

Yesterday was the wife's surgery (minor procedure) but it was still at the hospital. Got there after work to pick her up only to find out that they are running several hours behind. She was just barely being taken back for the surgery when I got there instead of in recovery. Hang around the hospital for nearly 3 hours. Wait even longer after she's being discharged. Get home, had to run to the pharmacy for her meds they prescribed. By this time it's now closing in on 7. Still haven't showered or eaten yet. Then, at 2 AM this morning, one of the dogs was barking to go outside and I've been up ever since.

Well, the other day we noticed that on our oldest cat, Garfield, it appears that he broke one of his teeth. So we scheduled a vet visit and got him in last night. The just checked him out and needed to draw blood to make sure he could even go under anesthesia (because of his age, he's somewhere around 17-18 years old) and they gave him pain meds and an antibiotic shot. Last night alone was a $321 visit and after they get the lab results back on the blood, to get the tooth extracted (and any others that might be bad), it will be another $750 to $1350 all depending on what needs to be done. :|

I guess the upside is that when they were examining him, he was completely healthy and doing well in every other aspect, so it's not like he has a million things wrong and it would be better to just put him down.

Yes, but not very likely. Most people don't plunk down all the cash at once for their new device. Most people either get it for "free" by extending their contract (if their carrier still has contracts) or they finance it over 24 months to be able to afford the newest and fanciest phones. That's what I had to do when I had to get a new phone when my HTC bricked on me (financed it because T-Mobile doesn't have contracts any more).

Goofy

Applied for a new job today... no clue if I'll even get an interview but I'm on the fence about it anyways. On the one hand it's a management position which I'm hoping to get into, but on the other it's managing a department that's not as 'reputable' I guess you'd call it - personal insurance rather than commercial where I'm currently working.

Hard for someone young to get their foot in the door in a junior management position though, so if it's offered I'd probably have a hard time turning it down.

In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississippi
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans

We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico

I'm getting tired of this horseshit. They're athletes, i.e. entertainers, in a business organization designed to entertain a paying public by playing a game. They have the opportunity to make millions of dollars for playing this game because of this country. They can't do this anywhere else. And we don't watch this game for a fucking political demonstration, we watch to see them play a game. If the owners, managers, and players want to inject a bullshit political demonstration, then I don't want to fucking watch. I don't like seeing people disrespect my country, but I support their right to free speech. However, I don't have to stick around and watch them disrespect my country. You want me to watch you play? Then shut the fuck up and play the fucking game. Bite your fucking tongue and stand for the national anthem of the nation that gives you the opportunity to make millions of dollars for playing a fucking game, or you'll stop getting my attention and money. You want my money? Shut the fuck up and dance for me, monkey boy. The powers that be of the NFL should realize that this is hurting their brand, and they should take a hardline stance against it, or they just might start losing patrons. And fuck Colin Kaepernick. He's not employed because he sucks, not because he's black and stupid. He had one good year, and then his performance tanked. Any QB would have been kicked to the curb under the same circumstances. If he gets back to playing better, then I'm sure that the powers that be will be interested in rehiring him. But I doubt it, because all he wants to do is double down on his idiotic bullshit rather than focus on becoming a better player.

Please stop saying these are constitutionally protected actions. They are not. They do not have constitutional rights at work. They have the rights afforded them by labor law, the union contract, and employer rules. Period.

As a sentiment, however, I agree wholeheartedly. We watch sports to give us a break from the harsh realities of life. Overlapping the two makes being a sports fan meaningless.

If the employer is supporting their actions then the employer is giving them the right to do it. If they're not telling them to stop what they're doing, then they're supporting their actions. The NFL and the owners are not stopping them. They're not threatening to fine them or fire them. Some of the owners have come out publicly in support of them. Thus the employment angle doesn't exactly apply here.

I don't disagree that they are supporting it, but that doesn't make it a constitutionally protected act. That makes it an employer allowed act, which means our issue is with the teams and the league. There's your reason to boycott.

Yeah I'm nit picking the little things that piss me off and I shouldn't complain here.

But since my Dad died I've been trying to at least mend the fence with him. For my sister. He's treated me like shit since I was a kid, my entire family has seen it...and I'm the one who has to try and make things right. My arm is fucking sore from holding out the same olive branch for so long.

That's shitty with your bro Lance, but I do understand. My brother is a guy who has kept moving further and further away from the city, then our province, then our lives because of his dream to live on a million dollar acreage in the boonies...yet he feels the need to tell me I should be doing more with my Mom for example...to appease his sense of misplaced guilt FOR NOT BEING HERE.

I visit my Mom every few days, every single week at a full time dementia care facility that houses violent, confused, really fucked up people...and one of them is my Mom. I send pictures and give updates on how she's doing, try to spin every visit in a positive light so my sister and brother don't worry, yet the visits are anything but positive.

Then this is the kicker...my brother visits my Ma earlier this week and sees her wearing a shirt that's not hers and eating a piece of pie with her hands. He freaks out, sets up a meeting with the manager and tries to berate her because he feels what he saw constitutes abuse. He has no idea that what he saw is a 'good day', that someone has to dress my Mom and frequently dementia patients will stop eating with utensils because that's a progression of the disease.

Oh man I won't relate what I've fucking seen out of respect for my Mom...but anyone with a family member who has this shitty disease knows what I'm talking about. It reduces people to children and then animals and I'm being polite.

sorry to rant....but it's hard being Little Mary Sunshine when I've been immersed in death and dementia for years and he fucking experiences one minute of it and thinks the world should stop for him.

Don't be sorry about venting, this is a good place to do so. I understand what you mean completely. My dad wasn't in a dementia ward, but he was in the full care nursing home that was fo, for lack of a better word, poor people. The sounds and noises that came out of that whole section was depressing and scary at the same time. I absolutely dreaded going to visit, but I did, 2 or 3 times a week, depending on how my schedule was. My dad was really out of it towards the end and it was like he wasn't even aware that we were there most of the time, but I still went. So I completely empathize with what you are going thru.

As for your brother, I know you really can't sever ties right now because of your mom, but believe me, cutting my brother completely out of my life was one of the best things I ever did. Like you, I was the one always trying to reach out and be the 'better man' but it got me absolutely nowhere. The only was to feel better when you are constantly banging your head on the wall, is to stop the banging.

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Several VFW organizations in northern Ohio will not show NFL games until players stop kneeling and stand for the national anthem.

Hubbard VFW Post 3767, which is located near Youngstown, decided this week to no longer air NFL games. The VFW Post shared a message on Facebook.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: While we, the Veteran members of Hubbard VFW Post 3767, believe in the freedoms of this country, we also believe that there is a time and a place for everything. The National Anthem is not the time for protest. It is for this reason that our Veteran members have voted UNANIMOUSLY to boycott all NFL games at our Post, until further notice. It's really windy so it looks and feels horrible outside...we're getting 5-10 cms (around 4 inches) so it's a little jarring after sweeping up leaves yesterday.

She's driving west and just called me from Canmore saying things are getting better which is good. They have a brand new Silverado and that thing is a beast so she'll be fine.

This morning when she's here I'm all like - Don't let the door hit you on the way out, bye, drive safe, leave now, bye, I'll miss you, thanks for leaving, I mean staying here, bye

Bona fide spree killers are fucking scary. There's no rhyme nor reason. There's no way to screen for them. There's just no way to know until it happens. It could happen anywhere. Most of the time, the opportunity that presents itself to them is small. This is the worst possible scenario, a huge fucking event that he unleashed on.

I listen to a true crime podcast called Sword and Scale. Most of his stories are recent news items. If you listen to enough of them, exactly what you mention happens more often than not. Person was fine, no history of nothing and then they just snap one day and take down as many people as possible.

I'm not a living in fear sort of guy, yet after 50 podcasts or so I find myself looking at people in public differently :|

That's what I miss about living in Vermont, once the snow came in October, it was there until April (give or take). Here in Colorado, we can get 3 feet of snow and usually it's all melted and gone in a week :sad2:

:-s

Yeah, because the parents don't give enough time and money to the schools, we should feed the teachers as well  So if THEY want to feed the teachers, by all mean go for it, but I'm not bringing any food.

IMO, these people are way under paid and put a lot out there to specifically help and tailor an education for these kids.. I count on these people to look out for my childs best interest.. I have no problem bringing in a $5.00 plate a food as a nice gesture to show them they are appreciated.. Maybe it's different in your area.

So I'm a bit frustrated at my condo building right now.

When I bought this condo last year, one of the selling features was that it was going to be wired for high speed fiber optic service in the next year. Not a huge selling feature, but it was definitely advertised and caught my eye.

Last week the third party ISP (Telus) came to the building and ran fiber wiring from the main connection point to each individual condo units who wanted it. To be fair, they did it for free as a marketing strategy... but unfortunately the conduits in the ceilings down the hallway for a few units were broken or damaged and they couldn't get the wires to run after several tries - mine included. Telus told me it's now up to our Condo Corporation (Strata as we call it) to decide what to do.

So naturally I followed-up with the Strata council (basically a few volunteer unit owners and one property manager who run the Strata) and asked what the plan is. In a one sentence reply they told me this is an individual issue and none of their business, and that because it was as free service, it's just too-bad-so-sad that I couldn't have it.

Wrong. A strata is essentially a corporation formed when a condo building is completed by the developer. The 'Strata' or 'Condo Corporation' is owned collectively by all unit owners in a building -be it a high-rise, townhouses or even commercial buildings. It's governed by the Strata Act. This act says that I own my unit entirely, with the definition of my 'strata 'lot starting from halfway between the walls and the common area. Anything beyond halfway outside my very own walls is the Strata's responsibility. The strata then owns the building itself and insures it, it owns the hallways, the elevators, the roof, the central heating system, etc. We all pay fees monthly to maintain it, and for the most part our strata is excellent, proactive, keeps a healthy reserve fund.

However, they're wrong that this is an 'individual issue.' I don't expect them to pay and have Telus come back and try again to install, however their attempt revealed that for whatever reason, in our 8 year old building there are collapsed internet conduit lines above the ceilings. That is be exact definition common property of the Strata and not my own. Even if I wanted to, it's not my own property to go crack holes in the ceiling of the hallways and replace. As a part owner of this Strata I have the same right to utility services everyone in the building enjoys, and yet the lines running up to my lot and several others are damaged.

I don't expect the Strata to pony up to pay the ISP to come back and run my lines again, I'll pay for that - however the actual conduits themselves are owned by the building and therefore IMHO should be fixed by the Strata just like they would if there were damaged water/sewer/electric lines outside of my own lot lines.

I've written a letter on this and I'm hoping they don't fight it, but Stratas are notorious for not being legally minded and rather vindictive. We'll see where this goes. :meh:

GF, my close friend was a condo owner for years and recently bought a house. House is/was about as old as the one I'm in now, yet his needed a ton of fixing up, right down to the wiring and fuse box.

He told me about and shared some exchanges with his former president of the condo association and to save time here, it was a shitshow. Besides paying the mortgage on his condo, his monthly condo fees were always increasing and the 'pres' rarely did anything to help the owners.

He has spent a year fixing up his old house and told me he wouldn't change a thing. He said being a home owner is by far the more intelligent decision even if involves more work.
