Saw a funny report on the local news. People are upset with the city about the lack of snow removal.

City council member tries to defend by saying - We had record snowfall amounts this year and couldn't possibly budget for it.

Woman responds by showing a home made graph of snowfall amounts in the city for the past 50 years (we have had huge winters in decades past) and says - Winter is not a 'new' thing in Calgary. Stop treating the issue like it's new, it's offensive to us.

That's horrible. Our past couple of winters have been light and last summer we went through drought situations. Remember we were chatting about our lawns and how dry it was? Our lawn, for the first time I remember, was not green. It died around July 30th and I kept thinking...if my Dad was here he would be disappointed in me for not looking after it. I got too concerned about the water bill and then realized everyone's lawn on the block had turned brown.

Luckily we don't suffer the problems like you and Porky, but the farmers have complained the crops last year couldn't be brought in and they had a really bad year.

Farming and cattle are pretty big components of our economy...in the shire, fuck off :lol:

Our last couple of winters have been about average when it came to snowfall, but nothing spectacular. But it was just a few years ago when half the state here was on fire and I think we may be going down that road again this year. :|

Yeah our fire bans and warnings actually start in February, which is a little surreal when there's four feet of snow covering everything.

Luckily, we never get the volume of fires you guys get in the States. A couple of bad years with the interior of BC around Kelowna destroying thousands of acres though.

Just west of me are the Rockies and there's so much forest land out there, if it ignited we'd be like California trying to put it out.

What I find fascinating is that reaction is a function of power and dominance, but they still view their position as victimhood. To me, it partially explains how women are so stunned when caught sleeping with students (or other exploitive behavior). It's an abuse of power, but they only see females as victims or oppressed (i.e. only males can be exploitive). From that perspective, they simply can't process that they have become what they claim to despise.

And please do not correct exploitive to exploitative; I don't care if it's preferred. Preventative makes me crazy, so I simply cannot use exploitative.

I never got around to everything on my DVR. Since I gave up cable I no longer have one. I do have a TV tuner card in my PC that I pick up a bunch of network channels and can record to the hard drive either with Windows Media Center or with the Plex server app.

I still can access most of the shows I watch though. Between recording network shows scheduled with Plex, I also currently have the Directvnow Beta streaming service (20 hour cloud DVR), Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, And have most of the individual network apps on my Roku. It's a little disconnected trying to find, watch and schedule shows with everything scattered all over but I'm still saving $100 a month and can take my service and shows anywhere with a good internet connection.

There have been tons of studies showing that switching the time twice a year is bad for people's health, today is like the #1 day for auto accidents, there is just NO reason to do it anymore.

Yes, changing the clock forward at this time of year gives people an extra hour of daylight near the end of the day when looking at typical daytime working hours.

Since daylight times change more throughout the year the father north you go, people in the northern hemisphere tend to get more physically affected by the change.

So we had the Canada Cup Rugby 7's Tournament here in Vancouver again this year over the weekend. The games are short, only 22 minutes from start to finish so there are dozens of games in a row over the weekend. Saturday games went from about 9am-7pm, and Sunday went from 9-6. The crowd was absolutely insane, most people dress up in ridiculous costumes and drink way too much. Seating was just general admission so I hung out with a few different groups of friends who were all there.

Suffice it to say, it was one of the funnest weekends in a very long time, and I'm now a huge fan of rugby 7's :lol: Next year I'm taking the Monday off afterwards though.

If you even get this in your city, I highly recommend checking it out even if you're not a rugby fan.

The AR is more compact and easier to handle, for me at least. I was looking at the Ruger mini 30, but it's not 308 and I'm not sure I want to pay that much money. I can get an AR in 308 for less than $800. I know Ruger has a bunch of bolt action rifles chambered in 308 for less than $500 (the American brand), and I'm considering them, so long as they're the compact models. I'm a short guy. I have short arms.

As for the WTF????... Sooner or later, I'm going to have both of them. It's just a matter of time. I want the SA/DA revolver and a few rifles. I have a list of firearms that I want. There's a few more semi-autos on the list as well. I'm just picking stuff off the list and turning them over in my head. I'm honestly not settled on spending any money on anything right now. I'm just thinking about it. Unless a(n unconstitutional) gun ban is coming down the pipeline, then I'll probably sit on it for a while before deciding whether or not to buy anything at all.

Made a huge difference buying an i7 at the time, and then upgrading it to an SSD for the OS and bumping up the RAM to 16 gigs, and I did all that several years ago now.

I think if you're going to school to become an engineer, it should be required that to get your degree, you need to spend 6 months to a year out in the field to see how the real world works.

I think if you're going to school to become an engineer, it should be required that to get your degree, you need to spend 6 months to a year out in the field to see how the real world works.

Are they not required to do internships to graduate? I know Georgia Tech requires that most of the engineering majors do internships every other semester starting in their junior year. GaTech engineering bachelors typically graduate in 5 years.

No idea what their programs are like, but all I know is that the engineering students (and even some of the professors there) don't see to understand how things work in a machine shop.

Subsequently, they're not going to get flagged by the system, since their source (who is also a criminal) isn't running background checks. WTF is wrong with kids today? It's spring break in the school district here and on Monday afternoon (middle of the freaking day) someone broke into a church in town and completely vandalized the place. Bashed in walls, smashed 80% of the windows, destroyed musical instruments, destroyed furniture....the church estimates it to be in excess of $80,000 in damages. Yesterday they caught the people involved, three 15 year old kids that haven't been identified.
