Last year they had high end Gibson guitars on sale, which honestly, wasn't very helpful, because discounting a $3500 guitar to $2400 still isn't doing me any favors. I don't like spending more than $1000 on a guitar, because I like to replace hardware and electronics to make the guitar my own. Really expensive guitars are made to be played as is, and I'm never too fond of them. However, Fender just released the new MIM strats, and they're getting rave reviews, and they're less than $700, which is in my price range. I already own one from the 90s and it's fantastic. I'd love to own another. If they go on sale on Prime Day, I might have no choice but to buy one. (MIM = Made in Mexico... and yes, they're pretty damned good compared to the American made Strats, and for the money as well.)

I said the United States should invade and annex and make Mexico part of the United States. Rented a rototiller this weekend to put some more grass in and try and keep slowly rehabilitating the back yard that was a mess from before we moved in. We put in this new type of grass called Dog Tuff Grass (https://www.highcountrygardens.com/sustainable-lawns/grass-plugs/cynodon-hybrida-dog-tuff) that is supposed to be very drought resistant and heat resistant and stand up to dogs. The first test patch came back really well and really green and we've barely watered it at all. So we bought more to do another section.

That new plot is only about 140 sq ft but holy fuck did that rototiller wear me out. The ground in our yard is so hard and that tiller pulled like a fucking bull moose. I'm sore and tired but better than the alternative of digging it all by hand. Just barely got a small portion of plugs in the ground before it got too fucking hot, but we'll get the rest of them in Wednesday morning before it gets to be way too hot again.

Never in a million years thought it would be this hard to reign in a backyard that was just left to the weeds. It's ridiculous and expensive.

It's funny. My best bud, who is an excellent guitarist, but who primarily plays metal, and only with emg pups, loves my tele. Franck up the amp, gain, etc, and get really good tones. I guess most associate tales with country. They do that too, lol. Of my guitars, the tele is a absolutely my fave, mostly because of the neck.

Sounds like the girlfriend of one of them slipped or got caught in a pool midway on the falls, and the other two went over trying to save her while their other friends watched it happen.

I was following somebody to a Honda service center because one of their dash lights calling for service was on. I have AAA so if they broke down, I'd be able to get them a tow. I needed to get my car's oil changed, but I figured I'd put it off until August. When I was in there, I mentioned it in passing, and the service representative said they could squeeze me in without an appointment, so I said "ok, go ahead". They came back to me with a list of shit that had to be done. I didn't realize I needed some fluids changed aside from the oil, so it just kinda snuck up on me.

What the fuck is it with kids turning people you liked into narcissistic shitbags?

Went away for a wedding this weekend, stayed with 5 other couples. So a dozen of us crammed into this little rancher Air BNB rental on a small island. I love this group of friends, all my wife's pals from med school. Only one has a kid. They brought it, despite their mom offering to babysit for the weekend because "everyone will want to see the baby"... despite knowing that this crew only hangs out all together once a year and would be up until the wee hours catching up - not a great place for a toddler. The kid was well behaves, but the couple took the place over. Kid's shit EVERYWHERE, making a total mess. The real issue was that the first morning they're up at 6am in the living room talking at full volume, playing music on the speakers, acting like they own the place as we sleep off a hangover. This place was ancient, had paper thin walls so everyone was awake as a result.

Day 2 is the day of the wedding... the fucking GRANDMA shows up on the island?! We didn't know this, she's here to 'babysit' and arrives while we're day-drinking which was just kind of weird. They still bring the kid to the wedding and it cries during the ceremony. We had to nudge them to get the kid out of there because it was embarrassing, and the bride didn't even want kids there. The mom babysits after the ceremony so at least we got a few hours of them being normal, but we were up celebrating until 4am, again in the morning THREE GENERATIONS of this dicks are up at 530am doing the same shit as the day before. Talking full volume, crashing around. The kid was quiet and really sweet, it was the couple and their mom who woke the entire house up two days in a row and pissed us all off. Everyone's too scared of the girl to say anything unfortunately (she's got a mean side), so we just let it slide and thankfully they'd left for the ferry by the time we got up a few hours later.

Just absolute narcissism, having a chance to leave the kid at home or get their own place, and instead they bringing it and their mom to our weekend getaway, half ruining the mini-vacation for all of us. Oh she also brought the kid to a wedding shower a few months back so I shouldn't even be surprised

On top of that, the kid is over 2 years old and asks for the mom's boobs still... all the time... I don't know much about kids but that seemed weird.

Fuck them, they're cut from the friend group :lol: I hope if I ever have a kid I don't become a brain-dead asshole who thinks that kind of intrusion on friends without children having a fun weekend is even half acceptable.

It's really easy. Did mine in about 5 mins, not including taking strings off and on. I used a credit card to make a pencil line around base of saddle, then just sanded gently with 500 grits sandpaper. I put sandpaper on a flat surface, and rubbed the saddle to lines. Hardest part was keeping saddle straight while sanding. I did mess up the original plastic saddle, but got a free bones addled from a local music store. Still want to put a bone nut on the yamaha. That may be above my skills though, as getting the slots right takes tools I don't have.

Hi guys, I have just returned to O from USA holiday. Spent a week in Bedford New Hampshire, 4 days in Martha's Vineyard and 9 days in New York/Staten Island. While i enjoyed the time away I find that I must contact my Aussie mates on here to get together and send you 'Merican's some Aid Parcels.
The pace of life in the Big Apple is horrendous and only Central Park seems to offer some green respite and even that wonderful space is always teeming with people.
I was impressed by the way in which the developments in New Hampshire and Maine are interspersed with green corridors; I was deeply impressed by the friendliness of people on the street and I was VERY DEEPLY impressed by the two women in Times Square who were costumed only in body paint! Virginia Republicans just nominated an alt-right hero to run for Senate

When Corey Stewart beat Nick Freitas in Virginia’s Republican Senate primary on Tuesday, he got a congratulatory tweet from President Trump, who said, “Don’t underestimate Corey, a major chance of winning!”

Among the people who retweeted Trump’s accolades: Jason Kessler, a self-described “pro-white” activist who organized last year’s “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, during which a young woman was murdered by an alt-right rallygoer — and a friend and associate of Stewart’s.

Stewart’s victory in Virginia may throw the GOP’s chances in House races further down the ballot under the bus. Cook Political Report editor Dave Wasserman tweeted that because of Stewart’s win, the GOP is unlikely to hold seats in four Virginia districts. (Reportedly, the National Republican Senatorial Committee may not endorse Stewart.)

Stewart’s win over Freitas means a Republican candidate with a birther past and connections to white nationalists and a virulent anti-Semite is the face of the Republican Party in Virginia this year. Stewart isn’t new to the scene — he lost two previous statewide elections in 2013 and 2017. But this year, he won, even in one of northern Virginia’s wealthiest suburbs. And he did so by pledging his undying loyalty to the one person who matters in the 2018 Republican Party, even after getting fired by his presidential campaign: Donald Trump.

Who is Corey Stewart, a “proud Southerner” who’s actually from Minnesota?
Corey Stewart has draped himself in the mantle of Trumpism, saying in 2016, “I was Trump before Trump was Trump.” And that has some truth to it: In 2012 during his run for lieutenant governor, he bragged about Prince William County’s “crackdown” on undocumented immigrants via a 2007 law that required police to check the immigration status of anyone detained or arrested if there was “probable cause” that the person might not be a citizen. (Stewart served as chair of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.)

Of course, there was a brief moment back in 2015 in which Stewart, like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and the rest of the GOP following President Obama’s reelection, decided that reaching out to minorities was critical to winning races. But then came Trump.

And for Stewart, with Trump has come an all-out embrace of neo-Confederate viewpoints and the alt-right. In 2017, he attended the “Old South Ball” in Danville, Virginia, and gave a speech saying Virginia was the state of “Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson,” adding that the Confederate flag “is our heritage, it’s what makes us Virginia, and if you take that away, we lose our identity.”

He’s said (and tweeted) that the removal of Confederate statues was an action akin to what the terror group ISIS would do and that he would “defund” any Virginia city that took down any Confederate memorial.

Defending Confederate memorials was still a part of his 2018 Senate platform.

Despite continually referring to himself as a “proud Southerner,” Stewart was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota, and went to St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, before transferring to Georgetown University in 1988.

But that hasn’t stopped him from leaping head first into the racist morass of the far right.

Months before the Unite the Right rally in August 2017, Stewart was gallivanting with Jason Kessler, appearing with him at an event supporting the ousting of a black Charlottesville City Council member who called for the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee from a city park (Stewart has described Lee as “brave and honorable”). At the event, Stewart praised the attendees — members of a group called “Unity & Security for America” — for their stand against “real racism,” while Kessler argued that the statue of Lee held “ethnic significance to Southern white people.” (Kessler also thinks the term “Nazi” should be viewed by members of the alt-right as a “term of endearment.”)

And Kessler continued to vocally support Stewart, tweeting that “if you live in Virginia you have to vote for Corey Stewart” on the eve of Virginia’s Republican gubernatorial primary in June 2017. (Stewart lost.)

After the violence and racism of the Unite the Right rally, in which a young woman, Heather Heyer, was murdered, Stewart was alone among Virginia Republicans in refusing to criticize the alt-right rally attendees and instead called out his fellow Republicans for being “weak”:

All the weak Republicans, they couldn’t apologize fast enough. They played right into the hands of the left wing. Those [Nazi] people have nothing to do with the Republican Party. There was no reason to apologize.

For his part, Kessler reacted to Heyer’s death by tweeting, “Heather Heyer was a fat, disgusting Communist. Communists have killed 94 million. Looks like it was payback time.” He later blamed the tweet on “stress.”

Kessler is currently in the midst of a lawsuit aimed at arguing that Unite the Right was the result of a conspiracy to commit violence.

And then there’s Stewart’s relationship with anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, too-racist-for-Twitter Wisconsin Republican House candidate Paul Nehlen, whom Stewart described in 2017 as a “hero” for challenging House Speaker Paul Ryan; he also paid Nehlen’s campaign for use of his email list during his 2018 campaign, and Stewart’s spokesperson was a consultant for Nehlen.

Video of Stewart’s endorsement of Nehlen (which took place before Nehlen made an “enemies list” of verified Twitter users in which he guessed at each’s religious affiliation, and before Nehlen was banned from Twitter for posting racist images of Meghan Markle) was uncovered by the conservative website the Daily Wire, run by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. Nehlen’s campaign responded by calling Shapiro “anti-White” and a “Bolshevik neo-Con.”

Stewart’s initial response to the video? In a statement to the Weekly Standard, Stewart’s campaign said, “Sadly it’s unsurprising to see the establishment Republicans continue to play the race card against President Trump’s most vocal supporters.”

And though Stewart eventually attempted to distance himself from Nehlen, a website run by Stewart supporters (and former consultants of the Roy Moore campaign) and connected to the Stewart campaign has continued to smear both Shapiro and Daily Wire reporter Kassy Dillon, alleging that Dillon was trying to force a College Republicans group to write a letter to Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr. to ask him to disavow Stewart. (In an email, Dillon told me that this was patently untrue, and that she had tried to reach out to the website for a correction.)

I spoke with Shapiro about Stewart’s win. “It’s idiotic, of course,” he told me, “and demonstrative of that fact that affect matters more to primary voters than actual possibility of victory. ... Sacrificing seats for the sake of ‘showing the establishment, raaaaargh!’ is not only politically stupid, it ends with the nomination of utterly unpalatable candidates who toxify the party as a whole.”

Inflammable is an older version, derived from inflame... so capable of being inflamed. Because in- is normally used to signify opposite, the preferred word became flammable to reduce confusion. Product labeling regularly uses old industry language; that's usually the only place you see inflammable any more. I have seen people try to differentiate the two - requiring ignition or not, but it's just old language verses new language. Language evolves...

Oil change and tires rotated Saturday....go in to pick up my truck and they tell me the rear diff. seal is leaking, pretty badly. :| Called the dealer and bringing it in tomorrow, should be upder warranty though unless they try and find some way to get out of it.

Dealer where I bought it is like 3 minutes from work, so it's convenient, and, at least on the sales side, they've always treated us right. So I'm hopeful they will in service as well. He said on the phone that the powertrain has a 5/60 warranty and the rear diff should definitely fall in that category.

Not going to know until 4 if my truck will be ready today or not, but it's not looking good. They basically have to rebuild the entire rear differential. But, it it's not going to be done, they will get me a free rental car to get home with, so that's good at least.

He said the rear seal was leaking, the pinyon seal was leaking and a few other things. They were going to have to pull the whole thing off and apart. So it's taking longer than they thought, plus they needed to get one part they needed from another Nissan dealer in town because they didn't have it in stock.

I have been ordering my glasses online for years. Last buy was 2 pair for $50. I have an eye that has deteriorated and has cataracts, so my prescription got much worse. That will all be fixed after surgery but in the meantime it increased the cost of new glasses dramatically. The site I have always used was a bit pricey this time so I found another where I could get a single vision pair and computer glasses for under $100 total including expedited shipping.

Just got a shipping exception. The shipment FROM CHINA has been delayed at customs. I had no idea. :lol:

Well, they ended up getting my truck done yesterday like they promised. Called just after 4 and said it was out for a test drive. Not only did they rebuild the rear diff, because the leak had thrown oil into one of the wheels and coated the brakes, they took that apart, cleaned the calipers, turned the rotors to remove the grease, and put new brake pads on both sides in the rear. Total cost to me, zero dollars. Can't say enough good things about my first experience with the Nissan service department. They were awesome.

If it's new, all three lights light up solid, if it's slightly used then 2 lights light up and the third may or may not flicker, and so on...

So after waiting on the phone for an hour, I get to speak to a tech rep from my cable company and after a few minutes of conversation, he agrees to send me a new remote controller. I ask him what I should do with the messed up one, if the company would want it back, and he says no, I can do anything I want with it. He suggested that I use it as a door stop. After I get off the phone with him, I check the remote out and disassemble it. I blew a can of compressed air over everything and cleaned the circuit board with a cotton ball loaded with isopropyl alcohol. Put it back together and put batteries back in it. And wouldn't you know? The fucker works again.
