Went to a big family reunion with my dad's side of the family on Vancouver Island this weekend. Every one of my dad's siblings and all of their kids (my first cousins) was able to make it which was fantastic. Three of my cousins have kids of their own now though... so it was a lot tamer than the last reunion a few years ago. Party ended a lot earlier than usual after chasing around 5 toddlers all day :lol: Still... like any good italian party, there was an insane amount of food and wine to go around. Local story here....9 year old boy killed himself because he was bullied by his classmates at school because he announced he was gay. Told his mom he wanted to dress like a girl (allegedly, according to the mother) and his mother supported him telling his classmates that he was gay. Really? A kid at 9 years old knows his sexuality? And as an adult you think this is okay to announce to a bunch of 8 to 10 year olds?

If you're new to it, I'd consider Exchange Traded Funds. If you haven't bought them before, they're similar to mutual funds but much lower management fees. Say you're interested in getting a decent spread of the top 50 or 100 cap companies in your market or the NASDAQ or whatever as a safe investment? There are EFT's for that (and just playing the indexes is what Buffet strongly suggests anyways). Or say you're interested in some of your money being a bit more aggressively invested - maybe you're super interested in mining juniors, or Canadian medical marijuana companies (it's bitcoin 2.0 here right now except I'm staying away :lol:) - there's an EFT for that too, packed with the top stocks from that sector picked by professional companies like iShares or Vanguard and again with much lower management fees than mutual funds.

If you want to just pick your favorite stocks that's great, but EFT's are a very solid way to spread your money out and far less time consuming. It's much easier to research one EFT, pick a few sectors and buy them like you would a traditional stock.

We're about to vote on proportional representation in my province... I'm not sure what to do. I took a course with a prof who was a strong advocate for it, he literally wrote the book on the case for our province and made a great case which at the time which I thought I supported... but that was a decade ago.

Now I'm looking at what happens in Europe when a country like Sweden elect a wack of different parties and nobody can form a government. We had this shitty cat growing up. Got it as a kitten and were told the kitten's mother was such a sweetheart they took it camping with and it was basically a dog... But this mother got knocked up by a wild cat on one of those camping trips, so the thing was half hood rat.

My dad really didn't want a cat, man's man type deal, but mom won as usual. So the compromise was that he had us name it Neuman (Sienfeld was huge then) so he could come home and sneer at it "Hello, Neuuuman" :lol: We found out a couple weeks in the cat was female but we just left the name - maybe that's why the cat was a dick.

We treated that cat like gold (other than the bad name), but it was a fucking predator. Dove-bombed us in the night just to hear my brother and I scream, took swings at strangers, brought in live birds and snakes weekly, disappeared for days at a time and came back all beat up from fighting bears or cougars, or at least raccoons.

Despite being the devil, my mom adored that cat, it slept on the bed, and it did chill out later in life somehow living about 17 years. All that time my dad never once outwardly showed it any affection. I don't recall ever seeing him pet her or pick her up and he swore up and down he hated the cat.

But when we finally put her down, he sobbed like a boob right there with my mom :lol: Big softie at heart. You can't help but love your pets.

That is awesome. So many people beat themselves up about putting down pets and it sounds like you were a rock for your wife.

And not to make light of this situation but if I could go back to age 18 again and snag one skill, it might be this :lol: It took me too long to figure out this is one of the absolute prime differences in men and women. When a woman presents a man with a problem, his knee-jerk is to tell her what he'd do, try and fix it for her. But what a good husband (I think) does is support her, be a listener, and empathize. It's really not that hard, just a slightly different approach but it makes a HUGE difference. If my wife comes home and has a problem with a coworker and I answer "well I'd do _x_y_z", it's FAR less effective than just saying "I'm sorry, that sounds crappy, damn. What are you going to do?" With guy friends it's just so different :lol:

You need to let it soak for like 10-15 minutes. The water has to penetrate the gunk. It should just wipe right off. If it doesn't, then soak it longer, but it shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes to soften up.

Into Washington downtown for the afternoon, then late night flight into Germany to meet with family. Gonna spend a week staying at the little village (where my father was born) on the Ammersee Lake, Bavaria with day trips into the Alps, Munich etc. It will be Oktober Fest :)

We had our annual general strata meeting for our high rise today (like your HOA's I guess). It went on for 3.5 hours :lol: I was dying. Our strata is an awesome group of 7, no bullshit owners who just get the maintenance and reserve funds under control and do a good job keeping the place in good shape... these other assholes show up to the AGM once a year and take their shot to have the stage and RUN with it. One lady was a lawyer and questioned every word and phrase in the minutes. Another lady was some dirty hippy who just wanted everyone to talk about their feelings and asked for everything to be rephrased so she could understand.

One dude actually yelled at me. I was hiding in the back and he was grumbling the whole time. He turned to me to complain that our strata council doesn't keep anyone informed... I told him I think they do a great job, the entire meeting was sent out two months ago, and all the changes we were voting on were explained there. He got PISSED, claimed "I teach people professionally and this isn't how you do it." Ok buddy they're not here to hold your hand, they just make sure the boiler gets serviced and that we have enough money to paint the place next year, chill the fuck out.

Then after all this bitching and moaning, they all vote Yes to the proposed changes anyways :lol: What a waste of fucking time. UGH. I'm going to move to the boonies once the wife is done her training I think. Get myself some land.

All of the above plus the bullshit fees the managers accumulatively introduce year after year. They love to point out it's all X divided by 20. I was the only one on their case about this. Getting the dishes done in time to go to the laundromat is great, since I have an inconsistent schedule and my wife makes more than twice what I make. Hopefully I will be on time for an eye specialist I can't afford who says it's not cataracts but can't find anything wrong.

I intentionally choose the dryers below the TV blaring Mariachi music as I load my wife's post period panties into the dryer. It gives me time to go through job ads from female managers that won't give me the time of day. It's awesome to have the time to reflect on how the patriarchy and my white cishet male privilege has really given me a leg up on life.

There is a bathroom over in the middle of the accounting department that everyone that works over there continuously complains about people stinking it up and the smell leaching into the office and they can hardly work because it stinks so bad..
