We have a place called Peter's Drive In.They serve those oversize, fat, soaked in gravy type of hamburgers and make the best milkshakes on the planet.
It's packed every day and I only go there about once every two years.

I usually get a banana/chocolate milkshake and there's hunks of real banana and I believe they use real ice cream......damn, I'm salivating

Halloween and Halloween 2 are ok, but you can throw the other two out. I might watch them. But I have so many unwatched DVDs... I picked up a DVD set of old school horror movies not too long ago, but I never checked to see what I got in it. There were about 50 of them. Lance has been doing that since I joined AS and here ;)

I'm talking about the old school movies, not the direct to dvd crap he watches. Back in the 80s and early-to-mid 90s, TV stations used to have weeklong movie marathons leading up to Halloween. They used to play a bunch of B-movies from the 50s and 60s. They were incredibly cheesy but I loved those movies when I was a kid. I've been trying to get my hands on a bunch of them, but they're hard to find. Every once in a while, I'll run across a DVD set with like 15 to 20 movies, and every once in a while a set will have 50. The majority of them will have a bunch of B-movies from before the 80s, sometimes a really crappy movie or two from the 80s will be thrown in. Some of them will look really good, some of them will have really crappy transfers. Most if not all of the films in these sets fall in the public domain.

Ever since I started picking these sets up, every single one of them have had the original Night of the Living Dead included. I must have 20 original Night of the Living Dead copies laying around.

They had character that the crap that's mass produced today are seriously lacking.

I shit you not, there was the cheesiest movie about Satan worshippers raising the dead and there was this one scene of a black mass where there were ritual drums and everybody was dancing around like idiots having seizures around a bonfire in a graveyard... and a steretypical red Satan was sitting on top of a mausoleum Indian style with his arms crossed his chest surveying everything... I've been looking for that movie for years and I cannot for the life of me find it anywhere... I don't even know what the title is.

But as stupid as it was, the movie was freakin' awesome.

In Living Color is coming back to TV?

Is it? Bad move, the original was littered with talented players, a brilliant ensemble cast that will make any new group pale by comparison...

Of course, I've seen a few reruns of it in the last month of so and it hasn't really aged that well, to be honest.

To this day I STILL have my Homey Don't Play That poster...

In living color, while awesome in it's time, would not survive now adays, because it relied on a lot of racially charged stuff that today, would get people in trouble.

In short, political correctness wins again :x

Same reason why shows like All in the Family and Married With Children would never be on the air today

Same reason why shows like All in the Family and Married With Children would never be on the air today

All In The Family was a liberal program launched in a conservative time. It was anti-war, pro-equality, and a reflection of its time. Literally...a reflection, because it promoted elements which were not popular or widely held.

Shows like that require a certain social landscape in which to survive, which is what is most missing now for it's success.

Married With Children could almost be defined the same way, as it aired during a repressive era as well...however, it was cheap and not actually about anything. It was tawdry without being progressive. There are a lot of shows on the air right now that fit that bill perfectly, and a show like MWC could do well in our current time. Given, most of the shows like it which are currently airing are animated, a fact which changes nothing.

In Living color owed most of it's success to a brilliant cast, a hip sensibility (which is what has aged poorly more than any other element), and that it was willing to cross a few lines. We still have shows crossing lines or being hip, but that cast could never be replicated.

M*A*S*H is a show that could never be made now. Non serialized sci-fi like the original Star Trek could not be made now. Gunsmoke, not. I also doubt that Dragnet would be feasible...as it was a procedural that attempted to show cops as decent, well adjusted, and on the right side of things. Cop shows today are all about 'super cops', or ones who cross the line, or are maladjusted.

A trend I hate in current TV...tied slightly to the super cop thing, is something you see on basically every show on USA network; a vastly superior entity traipsing about being massively better than everyone else and completely smug about it. Somehow, it's a little difficult to root for the guy whose abilities are SOOO profoundly above that of everyone else. It lacks dramatic suspense.

They did that concept better in the sixties...look at The Fugitive...he was a doctor, so he was clever. But that was it...there was nothing superhuman about him, nothing rare, perhaps he had a slight edge because he was educated and smart, but that was it, his only advantage. There was drama...suspense, genuine innovation.

Gary Coleman's dead?

Umm...awkward...

Yeah, he is, for about a year and a half now. And there was a whole scandal involving his wife and the circumstances of his death and everything. Old news dude, but, sorry nonetheless.

In that case I take back my 'sorry nonetheless' as you have earned no compassion.
