Man, I want that rifle, but I don't feel like shelling out the cash for it right now. Taxes are coming up, and so's car insurance. I've got a few birthdays before the summer, and generic periodic car maintenance that needs to be done.

I suppose it can wait for a spell. Maybe in July.

But it is a gun year. I'm not getting out of this year without buying a new one. The last one was bought several years ago and since then, it's been guitar, all guitar, and nothing but guitar, so help me God. I still want more guitar stuff, but I want a break from it.

You don't have to deal with the yuppies, you just have to go to a music store and test out a Mesa Boogie Mark V combo. Ask to plug in with one of their guitars, pluck a few strings, record it, and upload the video here. If I'm gonna spend $1850 for this fucker, I want to make sure the tubes are fine.

The last time I was in a music store, a drum teacher was giving a lesson in the back and you could hear him and his student up in the front. The student wasn't that great. I waited for his student to play a sustained beat and I played some rhythms along with him. When he stopped I stopped. I kept doing it for like 10 minutes before the drum teacher came out and said, "Who the hell's being a smartass?!"

I'm not very good but can fake my way through a lot of stuff. Young guy who was out front in my store said - Sure, pick one and crank it up, no problemo.

The drum teacher was a friend of mine and we always give each other shit, so when he saw it was me, he just pointed at me, squinted his eyes and said, "I'll deal with you later". After he walked his student (a young kid) to the door, he came back laughing and shaking his head. He told me I was intimidating the kid, but it gave him the opportunity to teach him a lesson about playing with other musicians. He told me he told the kid that the other band members depend on the drummer to hold down the beat, because "the other guys can't keep time without a good drummer, kinda like that idiot in the front of the store on the guitar."

Don't the cities in Illinois have a 'shoveling' regulation? They do here in almost every city/town in Colorado. You have 24 hours after the snow stops to clean your sidewalk or else you would get fined. Hal says they have the same thing where he lives. I would think a place like spend-happy Illinois would love to find more ways to generate 'free' money.

Pretty sure we have one here as well, just not enforced often. Like I said before, I usually won't do my walks if there is less than 2" of snow on them. If they ice up though I will go out and toss some salt down to make it safe for the mailman and other deliveries.

I think Colorado will become the 8th or 9th state to pass this BS. The democrats are all telling everyone that now your vote will finally count.

:umno:

This makes your vote meaningless now because it won't matter how this state votes, it will only matter how places like LA, Chicago, and NYC vote because those three cities alone can swing the election nationally for the liberal democrat.

The republicans in both the house and senate are livid that it passed, but they were powerless to stop it, the democrats control all three things here. They do say that it's unconstitutional (on what grounds I don't know) and I'm pretty sure this will end up in front of SCOTUS as more and more blue states are passing this.

And of course they all swear it has nothing to do with Trump winning the electoral vote

Recent commercial said 250 for your walks after 24 hours and 175 if you're parked on the street when it's declared a snow route. They have handed out over 1000 snow route fines this year already.

Recent commercial said 250 for your walks after 24 hours and 175 if you're parked on the street when it's declared a snow route. They have handed out over 1000 snow route fines this year already.

We have the same thing here with the chemicals they use on the roads here. Because rock salt is "too harmful" for the environment, they use liquid magnesium chloride here, which works great if the temp is already above freezing. Seriously, if it drops lower than about 20° (-7C) all it does is make the roads slipperier than they already are. Not to mention that it coats your vehicle in this brown goo/paste that is disgusting and doesn't come off until you wash your vehicle about 50 times. :|

This guy is the head of road maintenance for our city and he says something like that? Here's one that got my left eye twitching...

They determine certain roads are snow routes and it's a temporary thing. The idea is we move our cars and the city removes snow that has built up near the sidewalks for the ensuing couple of days. They give a stat saying over 1000 snow route tickets have been issued since winter started this year. Next scene is our mayor saying we only have 40 million dollars in the snow removal budget, so we don't have the luxury of removing the snow from the side of the streets. :x Which is it???

If I ever receive one of those snow route tickets you will see me on the news.

Interesting. But it sounds like states that passed it are states that would go winner take all to a Dem anyway. Part of me wants to hear California stand at the Electoral College and say "California casts 55 ballots for Donald J Trump". That would be glorious.

Careful what you wish for, libs.

Careful what you wish for, libs.

From a couple of different local news stories on it:

HB19-042 , the National Popular Vote bill, passed the House in a 34-29 vote, with six Democrats voting against the measure. Zero Republicans supported the bill in the Senate or the House as it passed both chambers.

If Gov. Polis signs the bill, Colorado would join 11 other states and Washington, D.C. in the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which would go into effect if states that have 270 electoral votes all join the compact.

If Polis signs the bill, it would add Colorado’s nine electoral votes to the 172 votes from states that are already members of the compact . The new governor indicated previously he would sign the bill if it reached his desk.

---------------------------------------

The interstate compact would go into effect once it has enough states with a collective 270 electoral votes — the number needed to elect a president. Compact members, including giants California (55 electoral votes) and New York (29), currently have 172 electors. Colorado, with nine, would give it 181.

Other compact members include Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.

Just recently, right around the time GF took off for Hawaii my sister's community got something like over 40 cms of snow in one day  It was during the same time as the Seattle people were panicking over 5-10 inches of snow and buying everything at the supermarkets.

It follows a young blind girl in Paris before WW2 starts and a young boy growing up in Germany. Damn, I can tell that I rarely drink anymore  There's a local taproom/brewpub about 2 minutes from my house. They were having a dog adoption event yesterday and the wife wanted to go see the puppies. So we went (first time there even though it's been open for awhile), it's small but kinda cool, and all they sell are their own brews. I tried one of their ales (it was pretty dark for an ale, I thought ales were lighter beers?):

https://i.imgur.com/SVk653a.png

And just that one beer had me start feeling a buzz. Good thing though because it's pricey to drink there, but it was good beer, I'd like to go back and try some of their others. But we got there as soon as it opened (3 PM) yesterday and by the time we had checked out the dogs and had our beers, it had really started to fill up and the clientele looked like the hipster/douchey types. :|

I can't say that I have perfect pitch. I don't. I wish I did. I know somebody with perfect pitch and he's uncanny. He doesn't have to focus, he doesn't have to think about it. He can identify notes and chords without fail, without hesitation. He doesn't even need to listen intently. He can do it in the noisiest environments. We were hanging out one day and he just started rattling off notes to the sounds of nature that we heard while we were hanging out outside. He knows when my guitar is out of tune slightly, which drives him mad. He taught me what to listen for with F# and E flat. They have a tonal quality that you assign colors to. F# is very bold, like fire. It has an underlying "wah" type of sound to it. So we call it red, and it fits. E flat is cold, very sad, and the underlying sound is like "woh". We call that blue, and that fits too. It's just right. It's hard to explain but when you hear it, it's like a veil is lifted. I could hear those 2 notes after focusing on it for a while. The guitar has to be in perfect tuning for me to hear it. Those two are supposedly the easiest to get. When he tried to teach me the others, I couldn't hear them. I tried for years but nada. It's frustrating to know the ability exists and some people have it naturally, but I can't get it myself. And I'm a music junkie, so in that respect it's even worse.

I've been playing guitar since I was 10. A friend and I were just musing on this - when we play guitar together we immediately know when anyone else is out of tune and it bugs us tremendously. I just listened to my daughter's playing at a Jazz festival and I could identify which instruments were off pitch. So could my daughter (she's the drummer).

And I can usually tune a guitar by ear because I can kind of "hear" the E in my head (the 1st and 6th strings for those who don't play). But I do use a tuner to get the tuning just right because I'm not always correct! But I wouldn't call that perfect pitch. I can't have anyone play a note and I'll know it's a D or whatever.

My daughter at 16 is a better musician than my wife and I put together. She can see colours too. I never can.

But at the end of a long, tedious day in the House Oversight Committee marked by clumsy questioning of Michael Cohen by Democrats, and shrieking hostility to the witness from Trump-loving Republicans, AOC (as she is universally known in the political universe — you know, like FDR and JFK) put in perhaps the single most impressive appearance of the hearing.

It's not my first time spending tons of cash on gear, so I'm not shitting a brick right now. I haven't done it in a while, but I have done it in the past. I actually got a ridiculously good deal on this one. $1625 is insanely low for a Mesa Boogie combo in very good to excellent condition. I believe the Mark 5 combo ran somewhere around $2300-$2400 brand new. It seems like a lot, but it is a Mesa Boogie. They're just expensive (and usually worth every penny). Of course, if I didn't feel that I could afford it, I wouldn't have bought it to begin with, so yeah. But I'm not gonna have to do without because of this. I pick and choose my timing wisely. If it's May or somewhere between October and December, no way in hell. There's just too much going on that I need the cash to take care of. But I'm usually good to pull the proverbial trigger on stuff in February and March and again in between July and September. So I had the extra cash laying around. And I wanted a Mesa Boogie, dammit.

I'll see if I can figure out how to get a sound recording when I get everything sorted. I just don't do that sort of thing, like... ever.

Either you memorize what low E is supposed to be, and it is possible to do that, or you use a reference point, like a song, or another in tune guitar. Of course, if you're playing with another guitar player and neither of you are in perfect tune, you could use this method anyway. Get in tune with each other on one string, and then use the harmonics to get both guitars in tune.

Tuners work great, too. Just saying. You can get one of those cheap clip-on tuners that you attach to your head stock. I have a few of them. They work great.

Oh I have a snark, and it seems to do the job well, just thinking I guess. Congratulations on the MB!
I'm at the point now, tuning wise, where if I'm in a guitar store, I can tell if it's not in tune, but not quite get it in tune without a tuner. I have noticed that to my ears at least, the individual string will start to "warble" as I tune up to pitch.

Most amazing sounding acoustic ive ever heard, the first strum just lights up the room! A tad pricey at 55k though

Kev - i do use a tuner, the harmonics tuning method i normally just use to quickly retune one string that sounds off to me. It really comes in handy when you get handed an acoustic at a house party or bar etc and have to tune by ear. It doesnt matter too much in that situation if you've got it tuned to perfect pitch, you just want all 6 strings to be in tune with each other.

Agreed. It's odd for sure. Amazon.ca isn't anywhere near as good as the US version but it's still got almost anything you'd need. Hockey is massive here, there are 3-4 large hockey shops within 10 minutes of me and they all sell online too. Why one of them wouldn't be selling on amazon is beyond me. Maybe because people like to feel their gear before buying and there's a huge variety in fits of protective gear, helmets, and stick designs... but still if clothing and shoes can sell on Amazon I don't see why hockey gear wouldn't.

Agreed, i buy almost everything on Amazon these days. 99.9% of the time it's cheaper than anywhere else, and with Prime i get free, fast delivery.

Yesterday for instance, i was needing to buy a new paint roller and brushes for some decorating i'm doing (either this weekend or next, depends when im motivated  ), jumped on Amazon and got a 2 roller/2 brush kit for £6, mostly 5 star reviews........ that was early afternoon i ordered and it arrived around 7pm last night. I know a lot of folk hate how Amazon is killing off the smaller businesses but i fuckin love it!

Yup, the world is changing, and not necessarily for the better either. :|

I envision the song Obsession being used by a serial killer when he's doing his Buffalo Bill dance in front of a restrained victim.

*sings*

I will have you
Yes, I will have you
I will find a way and I will have you
Like a butterfly
A wild butterfly
I will collect you and capture you

I feed you I drink you
My day and my night
I need you I need you
By sun or candlelight
You protest
You want to leave
Stay
Oh, there's no alternative

Immigrants and fagots
They make no sense to me
They come to our country
And think they'll do as they please
Like start some mini-Iran
Or spread some fucking disease
And they talk so many God damn ways
It's all Greek to me

Police and niggers, that's right
Get outta my way
Don't need to buy none of your
Gold chains today
Now don't need no bracelets
Clamped in front of my back
Just need my ticket 'till then
Won't you cut me some slack

My neighbour has a Mesa, not sure what model but it was a 4 figure purchase. Around 15 years ago i pulled the trigger on a Gibby SJ-200, most expensive thing i've ever bought...... had a myriad of emotions there  Always wished i'd never sold it but i needed the money at the time, recouped most of what it cost me :)

Have a watch of this

Most amazing sounding acoustic ive ever heard, the first strum just lights up the room! A tad pricey at 55k though

I love Paul's videos. They don't make the D-28s like they used to. Still the cream of the crop, and I'd kill for one, but they don't boom quite as well as the old ones do. I had an old friend back in Jersey that had one from the 60s. Filled the room with sound. God forbid if you laid a grimy finger on it, he'd rip your head off. Sorry you had to sell your $5000 Gibson, although if I needed money that bad I probably would have sold one of my kidneys rather than give a fantastic guitar like that up.

They've got a mess of D-28s listed on Reverb.com. Just sayin'... ;)

£47,321.43 is close to $63000. And his delivery charge is $93. It's been up for 9 days. I think maybe I'll just sell my house... steal a few cars, sell 'em...

Once I lived the life of a millionaire,
Spent all my money, I just did not care.
Took all my friends out for a good time,
Bought bootleg liquor, champagne and wine.
Then I began to fall so low,
Lost all my good friends, I did not have nowhere to go.
I get my hands on a dollar again,
I'm gonna hang on to it till that eagle grins.
'Cause no, no, nobody knows you
When you're down and out.
In your pocket, not one penny,
And as for friends, you don't have any.
When you finally get back up on your feet again,
Everybody wants to be your old long-lost friend.
Said it's mighty strange, without a doubt,
Nobody knows you when you're down and out.
When you finally get back upon your feet again,
Everybody wants to be your good old long-lost friend.
Said it's mighty strange,
Nobody knows you,
Nobody knows you,
Nobody knows you when you're down and out.

Can't these pedal manufacturers come up with something other than gain pedals? As if the market isn't flooded with them already. And surprise surprise! They all sound like Tube Screamers!

So, I did a trade. Traded my 2017 Fender Amercan Pro tele for the Fender 50's road worn purple sparkle tele (made in Mexico with nitro finish) and traded my 2016 Gibson es-335 studio (great guitar, just couldn't bond with it) for a new Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo amp. I'm pretty happy.

Man I love watching vids of people who are great with loop pedals but I don't quite get how the mic setup works. I just watched a guy looping on a piano, so he's got a couple mics in the piano and is looping various potions of the melody and some tapping and picking on the piano itself as well for a beat.... but how does the mic not pick up the tracks already being looped from the amp and get reverb?
