You swapped a US Tele for a Mexican Tele? :-s

Yeah. Along with getting s bit of cash, lol. The American professional was s great guitar, black guard butterscotch blonde. Only thing is I did t really like the poly finish. I'd been wanting a nitro finish purple sparkle tele, and had started building my own, then fender released the 50s road worn tele in limited amounts with the purple sparkle. It's a bit more relic than I wanted, but it's the right color and the worn neck feels great. I actually like the pickups in it (tex-mex) more than the ones in the am-pro. Put the wee little bassbreaker 15 through its paces sat night. As expected, not much clean headroom, but really, really nice mid gain structure. To my ears a very Marshall sound. The high gain works well too. Will have to start going down the pedal rabbit hole soon.

That's not unheard of. Nowadays, Mexican made Fenders are on par with the US made counterparts. Same thing with Epiphones and Gibsons. CnC machines are doing all the work. If you buy the cheaper versions from the get go, with the money saved, you can replace the cheap hardware with better aftermarket parts... and still come in at a lower cost with the upgrades included. I won't buy higher-end expensive electrics. I can modify the cheaper ones and not feel the least bit guilty about it, and still come out on the other side with a damn good instrument. I did it with a cheap Ibanez. I did it with a MIM strat. I'm in the process of doing it with a few other guitars I bought used.

Sounds nuts, but I know a few players that have ditched high end acoustics for lower priced Yamahas. Some of those Yamahas sound amazing.

Technology is helping the budget guys close the quality gap. Nowadays, all you're paying for is a name.

My mim tele is a solid alder body, very nice neck profile, a tad larger than the neck on my am pro. Setup out of the box spot on, frets are perfect other than 7th on high e is maybe a mm high, if that. Intonation is perfect all the way up neck.neck is straight. I'm actually probably going to put just a tad of relief in it, just as my preference. I traded because of the finish. My mim strat is better ( to me) than any American strat I've played in stores other than custom shops. The only thing I'd trade it for is if I found a really nice sonic blue strat. Obviously, I'd rather have the custom shop versions, but that's absolutely not in my budget, nor do my skills warrant customs, lol.

My cheapest amp in the Kstana 2x12 100 watt. I know you guys wouldn't use it, but I get surprisingly good tones out of it. Not as good as tube, but not bad at all. I'm still really exploring the bassbreaker, but have8found a bad sound in it yet.

I've seen it. That thing's insane. Line 6 has the digital market down pat. I own a Flextone 2 but I'm looking to get rid of it. Next to a tube amp, it just doesn't compare. Probably wouldn't get much for it, I don't have the floor controller, which practically neuters the amp. Nobody wants to fiddle with switches and knobs all day. That controller makes everything that much easier.

After I got rid of my Boogie rig I got a Flextone 2 as well. Just a single 12 combo. But with the Axe FX I dont even need a speaker cabinet and its sounds are super convincing. So I have been looking at some used ones, think I may pull the trigger on one here soon. Convenience man.

I know what you're saying. I've heard that Vai doesn't even bother with amps anymore since he got his Axe FX2. I just can't get past the lack of warmth that tube amps provide. I need tubes.

I've got a 2x12 Crate Vintage Club 50 and I've been considering unplugging the control panel from the speaker unit and getting something else, like a mini head, to plug into it.

Fractal has the Axe-FX 3 out, so FX 2s should be hitting the used market as people may want to upgrade.

Do you have a DAW on your computer?

The Democrats are coming for our guns. All in the past month or so.

Both passed the House, now in the Senate
H.R. 8
H.R. 1112

Both of these have been talked about already. Contact your Senators to squash them if you can.

Introduced in the House
H.R. 1263
(National Firearms Amendments Act of 2019 - To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act any semiautomatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine.)

H.R. 822
(Firearm Risk Protection Act of 2019 - To prohibit the sale of a firearm to, and the purchase of a firearm by, a person who is not covered by appropriate liability insurance coverage.)

H.R. 1222
(Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act - To amend the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act to facilitate the establishment of additional or expanded public target ranges in certain States.)

Not quite sure what the last one (1222) is about, I just caught wind of it. Doesn't sound too bad, but the devil's in the details so...

If I find more, I'll post them.

They're serious now. Get ready people. It's coming.

Damn right it's terrifying. Even the liability insurance bill could be used as a registry to know who has what and help with confiscations.

Just a few years ago they were saying "don't be paranoid, no one's coming for your guns".

But yeah, I might be a smartass about it this year, like I have been just about every year prior... giving up something that I have no chance in hell of ever having, like shellfish (I'm allergic) or Ethiopian cuisine (ha... running joke from a long time ago... it may or may not still be true today. Apparently this Leaving Neverland documentary is making quite a splash...

Oprah has now gotten into the fray. She has an interview with both guys and I'm going to predict she was friends with Michael and didn't care for their claims.

Summary of Leaving Neverland is these two dudes never testified against Michael in 1993 because they were still in the inner circle. And by inner circle I mean inner...

It's a slog at 4 hours but by the end I could easily see the reasoning behind their actions. As Robson put it - I was nine years old. It didn't feel like abuse...Michael loved me.

Also, watching the other guy (Safechuck) come apart slowly during the interview tells everything.

And not a single one will pass the Senate. The House can do whatever they want, it's all posturing and for show.

The Senate won't always be Republican, and given how far left the Democrats have gone, when the Senate turns blue again, we'll be in trouble. It's not just for show anymore. You have young true believers in there now, and they're growing in numbers.

That is a true and terrifying statement. This is why I really hope something comes of this FEC violation with AOC and her chief of staff not to mention Bernie and his wife being under investigation as well. If somethings comes of any of that a lot wind could be dropped from those sails.

The numbers don't bare it out. I have said may times that the ones with the megaphone set the agenda. That appears to be true here. The very vocal minority is getting the attention. But when you look at likely voters it tells a different story. Kamala Harris doesn't even get double digits, but Joe Biden gets mid 30's. "The base" is not the base.

I'm worried about my mom. I need to think this through. She's a tough broad, resistant to anyone trying to make decisions for her. So I float ideas, but that can send her down a rabbit hole.

I inadvertently triggered a rant today. She HATES Trump. So I simply asked her what benefit she gets from spending 2+ hours watching a cpac speech. I know we joke about TDS, but it has real health implications.

Not quite the same by I worry about my mom's retired life these days too. All she does is go to the gym with my dad in the morning, visit my Grandma, and then spend all damn day on facebook. She's always wrapped up in stupid shit people post and sending me dumb links. It's not healthy how much time she spends on that fucking ipad. My brother and I just keep pushing her to find some hobbies. My mother in law on the other hand is in a hiking club, book club, does pottery, yoga, cooking classes and it's clearly making her far happier. You mind goes to mush if you don't socialize and keep learning in retirement. I'm watching it first hand.

My dad was the same way before he had the massive stroke that put him in the hospital and then the nursing home. At first he was pretty good about going out for walks and going over to the local a few nights a week for beers and to see friends. But after he had his first minor stroke, that all stopped. Even though he was perfectly capable of getting around, he rarely would leave the house after that. The TV and the computer was all he cared about. The TV would be on from the second he came downstairs in the morning until he went up to bed at night. And in between, he would go over and sit on the computer. He monopolized the whole downstairs of MY house. He was insufferable. And I think in the end, that sedentary bit of doing absolutely nothing ended up killing him in the end because the next stroke he had (and I guess once you have one, you become susceptible to more) is the one that put him in the ER and then the nursing home.

When my Dad's cancer got bad he complained to me one day about not doing anything other than laying in bed and coming to the living room to watch TV. My father was a very active person every day until he was 83.

My response was - Dad, there are people in their 70's and 80's who DON'T have stage four cancer and do less than you do everyday. I think it helped him but he got so offended when he couldn't walk more than 10 feet without getting winded.

My Dad loved ice cream and going to Dairy Queen. One of my dreams was to take him out to Banff for the day, get some ice cream, turn around and come back to Calgary. It's about an hour each way.

He was usually ok as a passenger in the car, the worst was getting him into the car. After that if he was sitting he was fine. He also loved traveling, driving places in his own car.

He wouldn't go for some reason and that upset me a little. Then you know what my brother says? Keep in mind my brother lives in BC and didn't see my Dad daily.

Brother - What are you crazy man? What if Dad died on the trip? What if something happened to him, how would you feel??

Same reason I come in here and mention stuff about my Mom when RBP and GF are concerned about theirs. Because my brother and I are assholes.

Him, my sister and I always do group emails every week. Actually it's me sending the notes which are weekly updates about how my Mom is after I visit her. He actually is resisting us getting hygiene for my Mom because of the cost. The estate pays for it = less money for him after Mom goes.

He actually wanted me to go and inspect my Mom's gums to verify what the REGISTERED NURSE on duty told us. Mom hasn't had hygiene in three years, she's 83 and a dementia patient. Not a good mix. It's a health benefit for anyone that age as gums recede and teeth start falling out naturally.

He pushed back so much in the emails, I finally used caps saying NO, I WON'T ATTEMPT TO go against the nurse's diagnosis as I'm not a dentist. (tons of experience as a patient but I digress).

Then he responds in his typical one line note/you must do this tone - "Since we have radically different views on Mom's care, I'm going to step back and let you two handle it." He hasn't sent or responded to any notes since. WTF...that's your Mom dude.

Told my sister I've had enough and do a lot of things out of courtesy so my sister and brother don't worry and that's going to end. I was never a doctor and am the youngest in the family. I haven't been married or had any children, hell I can barely take care of myself, and I was assigned to look after both parents medically because you two wanted to live your best lives keeping your jobs/homes/lives out in BC without interruption. I already watched one parent die very slowly day by day and now I get to watch another parent lose her mind and dignity week by week.

I made my sister cry and had to phone her to apologize. Not my best moment because her and I get long very well. She helps me a lot and visits here four times a year, doing everything she can to help both parents.

This is why I was in such a great mood last Friday. Arguing with a brother over something that should never be an argument.

Don't be too hard on yourself, it's an overwhelming situation to be thrust into. I know it was for me with my dad and that's not anywhere near as bad as what you were/are dealing with. And I'm sure your sister understands.

And consider it a blessing that your brother doesn't respond now, his toxic attitude isn't helping things anyway. And do exactly like him, refuse to respond to any messages from him when he finally does contact you. I always hate stooping to other people's levels, but sometimes it's the only way. One of the reasons I cut all contact with my brother. I haven't spoken to him by phone or e-mail now in over 10 years.

Caring for any parent is difficult...you, me, GF, RBP...it's all difficult. I try not to see it as who has it the worst. Thanks though.

I'm doing exactly that, not contacting my brother. My father set up his will and his afterlife in such a way where everything we do is divided into thirds and with any monetary decisions at least two out of us three children must agree before it's done. He was a very smart man.

I would give them both updates about hospital trips and treatments my Dad went through and my brother would inevitably backseat drive/critique on multiple issues.

Imagine your Dad being rushed into emergency and spending four days there.(happened three times) You talk to six nurses and at least two doctors. You're managing three phones, visiting your Dad every day bringing him anything he needs and keeping track of the all the medications, new actions you must commit to daily in your head. Then sending nightly email updates to two people after distilling all of the information of that day.

Sister - thanks hal, glad you're there helping Dad, love you.
Brother - How come you didn't get the name of the procedure they did when they cauterized the bleeding in Dad's lungs?

I was actually told by the palliative nurses that came to my house that I was good at the medical stuff and care given. I had to give daily injections and monitor a few other meds and my Dad and I would often joke in front of the nurses. One of the nurses visited me alone after he died... and said my love for him was obvious and she noticed how much my Dad appreciated me  She said I was doing about 50% of the things they normally would handle on visits for other patients. I told her I felt like I wasn't doing enough compared to how much my father had done for me and she teared up...I have a real knack for making people cry.

Yes it's supposed to be the best version of events by Dave Cullen. The guy is a pretty good writer. Apparently he was one of the reporters who initially got a lot of the information wrong and corrects every false statement, some truths not being discovered and revealed until years later.

Ended at a tough part last night. 18 year old girl named Robyn who bought three of the four guns at a gun show for Dylan and Eric because they were underage. She was never charged and was suspiciously off campus at Dairy Queen, leaving at 11:10 am. She claims not to have been aware of their plan, yet the incidents were scheduled to start at 11:17 am. She was Dylan's girlfriend and prom date.

Wanted to ask...the guy gives excellent descriptions, time frames and backgrounds. That school was around 10 miles southwest of where you are Lance?

No matter how I write this it may come off badly. I've noticed a lot of Americans dedicate a large amount of their waking moments to watching, reading and talking about politics. Always good to be informed yes, but when viewed from the outside it seems like a mania at times. For example I may seem naive or like I don't care about political issues. It's more a case where after I vote I can't exert any impact on the situation so why spend so much time wringing my hands over it? I won't be going to any rallies holding signs or laying down in front of any construction equipment anytime soon. I do note that your programming is full of political content from both sides so I can understand why your Mom is getting so engrossed in the rhetoric. Again, never would suggest to close your eyes to the events transpiring in your country as it pertains to leadership, but I also feel it reaches toxic levels as evidenced by comment sections all over the net that aren't even political in nature and are inevitably flavored by the left and the right of it all.

I think Lance hit on something when he suggested getting her interested in other things. We all know that as people age, your interests and activities narrow and maybe your Mom thinks TV/politics is the only thing that can be of interest to fill her days?

I suspect once you suggest some other activity, even net or TV based, she may attach herself to that. Finding that thing is the problem.

Thanks. The author brought up a list of inaccuracies starting from the first reports. I think most of us know the pertinent details.

Sounded like a huge school when they talk about hundreds of kids coming out of the different sections.

Some quick interesting things : 1999 and cell phones were not that common, yet tons of kids had them at the school.

And the horrifying realization that in real time, there were TV's in almost every room of the school and children were calling the press because they couldn't get through to 911. One news anchor figured out the shooters were still active and probably had the ability to see the same TV broadcasts so he starting yelling at some of the kids to stop telling the news outlets where they were in the school.

Once you read the mapped out timeline in the book, you can understand just how much of a huge clusterfuck the response was. And why. At one point they thought there were 10 armed people and the police and security resource officers were instructed not to enter the school.

It's about 1700 students, grades 9 thru 12. And it's a rather affluent school in an affluent neighborhood, so it's not surprising that a lot of the kids had cell phones then. Mostly well-off families that live in that particular boundary for that high school.

You should pick up the book if you're interested. He dispels a lot of false facts and myths about the incident. He wrote the timeline of April 20th and it reads like an action movie after introducing some of the key people involved. There's still about 300 pages left and his list of references is staggering. Some of it only being discovered eight years later.

I made the mistake of watching the 41 minute school video :| and when I read it gets pretty chilling at times. I'm also not reading from an anti-gun stance or to make a statement about my personal feelings on that subject. There are passages with cops and security personnel shooting it out with both of the guys outside of the school as the situation developed. I found myself cheering for the cops. One cop said every victim with the exception of one probably could have been saved if he had hit Eric Harris early in the incident. Compelling stuff.

A lot of the blame lies on the parents of Harris and Klebold. If I remember correctly (and it's been a long ass time since it happened), one of their mothers, I don't remember which, said she never went into her son's room. Um, hello? :-s If you had gone into his room and poked around like every good parent will do occasionally, she would have seen what they were up to and planning. My kid is 15 and a good kid, but I still look in her room every now and again to make sure nothing strange or concerning is going on.

Getting Exited! :bounce: We moved a few months back and I now have a dedicated media room. I have bought a bunch of new upgrades and super exited to get it all put together. All my new cables came in this week and just ordered the HDMI cable I need to run to the projector and it will be here tomorrow. Room is all mocked up and have my buddy coming over Saturday to pull all the cable, so close now.

There's a few tough conversations like that surrounding the incident. The basement tapes (VHS) that Harris made, their posts on websites and subsequent evidence where they talk about death and killing was not widely known beforehand, even to their inner circle of friends. The author reveals that both Eric and Dylan were above average intelligence and hardly the social outcasts the media initially made them out to be. Dylan was accepted instantly at a handful of colleges for his computer knowledge, Eric was smooth with people in general and apparently had no problem talking to girls and authority figures. Despite all of the nasty evidence they found both sets of parents didn't believe their sons could be involved as both seemed like normal, imperfect kids.

Agreed the parents needed to take an interest in their kids lives and rooms by extension, but like the author describes both guys were intelligent. Small example but they planned the incident for months in advance and part of it was using those large propane cylinders as bombs. Eric had the event planned to the minute and knew he couldn't pre-buy the cylinders as his parents may see them. They hid everything until the day of...and that's when they both left notes and evidence in their rooms. Up until that point they kept everything hidden. They didn't even get the last bit of ammo until the night before.

I guess I just don't understand a parent(s) that take no interest whatsoever in their kid's life. Turn a blind eye to everything.

I guess I just don't understand a parent(s) that take no interest whatsoever in their kid's life. Turn a blind eye to everything.

This may be more complicated and I remember what I allowed and hid from my parents when I was 17. They didn't see much.

How about this? Two underage guys show up at a gun show and want to buy weapons. They get refused because they don't have ID. They enlist their 18 year old girlfriend, come back, ask for the same weapons and she vouches. She didn't sign anything because she didn't feel comfortable doing that. The three of them walk out with the guns in question.

Now I understand they've changed the laws because of this but in terms of responsibility...for this incident - gun sales people > parents. The girl who got the guns was interviewed by Diane Sawyer shortly after the shooting and she was criticized for not showing any emotion or remorse. I watched it and it was fairly creepy in that respect.

Then I find a Columbine forum (there's a wiki and other strange sites too) and one person there asks what I was thinking. Some wanted this girl to be charged and put in jail and adjacent to that, what about the guys who sold the guns at the show? Harris and Klebold also bought another gun and ammo from their boss at work/or someone who was associated with him, and that guy was charged with jail time.

So it gets a little messy when talking about responsibility. Again, I agree with your thoughts on parenting. You know I'm a liberal thinker but also very conservative when it comes to values and morals.

So I was just choking on a morning med that got lodged in my throat. Had to cough up my coffee to dislodge it. I stood there in the kitchen, my shirt, counter, and floor covered in coffee and started laughing loudly. The comedic irony of dying from choking on an an anti-anxiety medication was too good.

Wanted to apologize again. You had a concern about your Mom and I came in and stampeded all over the posts. I need to cut back on coffee and quit oversharing.

I don't cope with anger well and after watching Michael and reading about Columbine my mind is little confuzzled

Well, trying to work out an instrumental version of Bill Withers " Ain't no sunshine" started off with the tele and the bassbreaker. Wound up going with the les Paul. Sounds so much better for this particular riff. Loooooooooong way to go. Trying to figure out what Marty Schwartz is doing with this song in his vid for his new looper pedal.

All keys are easy. You only pick a key other than what you originally intended to use when your vocalist can't sing in the key you originally picked. Guitarists are supposed to be flexible and be able to play in any and every key.

Yeah, but aren't some more ideal to physically easier be able to play the chords? If you have a like D# major none of the open strings will work? Or perhaps I am thinking of the violin :-k

No, you're right. Having open strings available makes it easier and more convenient, but you don't want to limit yourself. What happens if you've got a vocalist with a fantastic vocal timbre, but a range that limits you to keys with minimal open strings? Granted, most vocalists will have a 1 and a half to 2 octave range, which should cover most every "simple" key, but some have a comfort zone and that may force you to have to play outside of those open string-dominated keys. Of course, there are ways around that... alternate tunings, capos, and simple inversions... but really, if you're gonna learn the instrument, learn it completely. Don't leave anything out. The guitar is like the piano in that it covers a number of octaves rather than be limited like say a trumpet or trombone. That's a very useful characteristic tool that you can use to convey whatever musical message you're trying to get across to your listener. That's why the guitar is such an awesome instrument, you can do/play anything you want on it. There's not many things that you're limited to playing on it.

And by the way, D# is too complicated a key to be thinking about (F##, C##). Use E flat instead. It has the same tones, but with only 3 flats.

Great right-up

Yeah, I really do like that aspect of the guitar. The stand-out versatility: Chords and melody. Accompaniment or solo, almost limitless timbre and range. AND..portability!

I'm doing locum work and this is my instrument. It keeps me going, but not a pinch on the real thing.

Yeah, I picked one of the hardest keys (at least piano-wise) to make my point. But yes, you are correct. They are essentially identical.

Did a little research on the butter vs margarine debate (there's a rabbit hole of unknown dimensions  ), in terms of which one is better for you in the long run.

Depending on frequency and which type of fat you feel is worse for your heart, the opinions vary widely.

I buy Imperial margarine and find it tastes better than butter on daily foods. I've used both when baking, can't tell the difference there.

Close, the other commercials are more modern but that guy is being quite the dick when you hear it. And the wife is a well known older actress.

Trivia - Margarine makers had to stop saying it tastes like butter because someone used copyright law in reference to butter. Since margarine is not made the same way, every ad had to be changed and all of the language on containers. 'Spread' is the acceptable and legal term now.

One brand used to be named - I can't believe it's not butter!

It's like everything. There's two types of bad fats. Butter contains higher levels of one and margarine contains higher levels of the other.

The reason butter is yummy is because of that difference.

Margarine is not one molecule away from plastic, but there are widely different tastes and consistencies. I baked with Becel once, it wasn't great and tasted more bitter than Imperial when putting it on spuds and toast.

So imagine...you're a young kid with the keys to the candy store, literally. We used to make these batches of popcorn with triple the salt and then douse it in that butter-like shit.

You needed a shower after eating it. And a blood pressure cuff  I rarely eat popcorn now.

Taking that a step further me and friend used to smoke pot and then he would heat up a bowl of butter in the microwave, then a bowl of Cheez Whiz, then combine them and pour over our popcorn at home. We used spoons to eat it, I kid you not

You should have the issuing party withhold federal taxes for you.

Im under the impression that there is no tax on inherited funds. I have 4 im dealing with right now and I have been told by a lawyer that under 11 mil, I dont have tax on inherited funds. Are you dealing with a licensed cpa on this?

The believe the key is "annuity", which is taxed as regular income. Interesting about the 11 million, inheritance theft by the state is ignorant.

Yes, but its how he received the annuity. There shouldnt be an inheritance tax on inherited moneys except for taxes on the dividends.

I was under that assumption as well. This is an annuity my dad started for me when he sold the family home. I had thought there was no tax on inherited money, but according to the software and Google, its taxable. I will run it by a CPA before filing just to see. Spending a hundred or so to possibly save thousands is a good deal in my book.

Guitar maintenance day today. Did a full setup and new strings on the new tele (didnt need much) tweaked the strat ( mostly just buffing down the poly finish on neck till its satin) with new strings. Next up is new strings on the les Paul. Of course full cleaning on them all. I'm a fortunate guy to have not only my family, home, vehicles etc, but these wonderful guitars I can play with in my late middle age. I sincerely hope all of you have a wonderful day, and smell the roses

The Mark 5 arrived today. It was a bitch to get it out of the packaging, bit at least it was packed well. I'm glad it has casters. I need to put the power/rectifier tubes in. The preamp tubes weren't taken out, but it looks like one of the tube shields came off. I'll have to take a close look at those preamp tubes and see if they need to be reseated. I think I'm gonna be spending some time with this thing before I even get to plug it in.

I will never sell an amplifier online. Jesus, the flaming hoops this guy had to go through to get this thing packed up. It's gonna take hours for me to clean all the packing materials up off of my garage floor.
