I like the Fenn thing better because he's still alive and it's not 'a legend'.

He literally said - It's in a place where an 80 year old man could get to on foot, carrying a 42 lb chest in a backpack. No need for equipment to reach to the spot the chest resides at.

Hoa boy, one of my group chats is fired up tonight

Some of my buds are on a stag for a friend of theirs. They went to a bar over town that has table tennis, pool, etc. The service was apparently shit, and the place was dead, but they were told they couldn't play on more tables anyways. The vibe was crummy so they paid and left. At the bar next door, one of the guys gave a fairly basic 1-Star google review saying the service was bad and they felt unwelcome (I read it, it wasn't that harsh).

They'd told a bartender their next stop, and so the owner followed them to the next bar and yelled at them for the one star review.

So, being guys, they stepped it up a notch and left 2 more 1-star reviews.

The owner is now responding on Google Reviews. He's looked up each of them and said (citing their places of work) he's contacting their employers to 'let them know their employees are 1-star reviews.'

Looking back through this bar's history, it's evident he doesn't respond well to poor reviews (a few months back he said THANKS FOR TRYING TO RUIN MY LIVELIHOOD, over another 1-star review)... Threatening to contact employers is next level though. I'm sure there's his side to the story too but this isn't how you handle it to improve your clout.

That said, I suggested to my buddies who are there to stay out of it online. People have been sued successfully for bad reviews, the thought police are real. It's hard to know where the line is between free speech and defamation these days.

So I see a Pride parade on TV in eastern Canada and the big recent news is the gay community still does not allow/invite the police department to take part in the festivities. Police have been great, apologizing for past treatment and acknowledging some of their bigoted actions and views. Most of the dissent comes from a court case where a gay serial killer up here was preying on gay men and the police department were caught not following up on leads and were exposed for not committing the same resources as they would with a 'normal case'.

But the first thing I see in the parade are two larger women or trans people, wearing really, really small thong-like gymnast suits and bending over, slapping their asses and thrusting their crotches to the camera.

Spokeperson says - We just want to be treated the same as other citizens and not be discriminated against in any form.

Then why the fuck in 2019 are you still making this a dodgy public burlesque show that makes me, a fairly liberal person, cringe and get embarrassed???

And you keep on shutting down the cops when they're offering an olive branch. It just aggravates the tension.

Congratulations! Life is a mater of perspective. When I got my first job out of college, I called my old man. "What's your job title" (because that was the measure of a man) he asked. "personnel assistant" I said proudly. {pregnant pause} "oh. you're going to be a personnel asshole".

His attitude about my chosen profession was formative. But in the end he was right. I became an asshole.

Appreciate that, it's definitely sage advice. I swore here in a rant years ago that I'd never drink the company gatorade and lose touch with reality like some of these C-suite executives have, talking in their platitudes and metaphors rather than addressing reality.

The real juicy drama of the day is that my former manager is now his former boss' boss. Basically this guy 'C' who's around 35 years old was in my same position as me until a few years ago when he was promoted to a Supervisor by the long-time department manager 'J'. J is around 62, nearing retirement age but she wants to work there until she's dead, despite long being out of enthusiasm, flexibility or fresh ideas. Then 2 years ago C was promoted to the same level as J, and they split the department in two (if you watch the office, this is just like when Michael and Jim were 'co-managers' ). She outwardly expressed how hard that was for her and it was awkward then. Well, with the new changes today, C is now J's boss. Starting next quarter, C does the performance review of J. She cried in the big announcement today. It was a tough sight. I was surprised she didn't take an early retirement on the spot, and C looked like he'd seen a ghost.

I shouldn't laugh, but it's all you can do. Business can be ruthless. I'm forever scared of the "Peter Principal."

I'm forever scared of the "Peter Principal."

The Peter Principle is an observation that the tendency in most organizational hierarchies, such as that of a corporation, is for every employee to rise in the hierarchy through promotion until they reach a level of respective incompetence. In other words, a front-office secretary who is quite good at her job may thus be promoted to executive assistant to the CEO for which she is not trained or prepared for—meaning that she would be more productive for the company (and likely herself) if she had not been promoted.

You can double tap my Galaxy tablet to wake it up, so I thought maybe there was a similar setting for the S8 phone. There isn't, but that's where I found the shortcut to just long press where the home button is.

My phone has done exactly one OS update since I got it years ago. I won't tell you where I'm at in that respect because I already feel like a poor cousin next to you guys

During that accidental update (I was fully responsible) it created an effect I hated. When you swiped the screen to unlock it, it had this rainbow or sparkly effect where you could see under the swipe for a moment. I used the swipe method rather than a pin password to wake up the phone.

That one distasteful graphic inspired me to change the entire way I was turning the phone on and off and unlocking screens

A friend of mine just posted this on FB, Her dogs name is Leroy.

So I just got back home from working out. Leroy is laying on the back patio covered in dirt with a rabbit in his mouth. The Rabbit's not bloody, just dirty. Now, my neighbor's kids raise these Blue Ribbon WINNER Rabbits. I instantly knew it was one of their rabbits. So I took the rabbit away from my dog, I rushed inside, washed all the dirt off it before my neighbors could come home. It was stiff but I heard some ANIMALS play dead when they are AFRAID, I couldn't remember which animals because I was NERVOUS. I took it and placed it back in one of the cage, then I ZOOMED back home. NOT 30 minutes later I hear my neighbors screaming. so I go out and ask them what's wrong?
They tell me their rabbit died three days ago and they buried it but now it's back in the cage.

Some stupid fuck in the UK is using my email address to order his dumbass pants from a clothing company. He's got the same name as me but a UK address, so I'm thinking it's just a fat-finger but this company just replies 'sorry the order has already been shipped' when I try to get them to fix the issue. I've monitored my credit card statements closely and have a monitoring service in place, so I don't think it's a true case of identity fraud. If it happens one more time though and this company continues to ignore my requests to stop sending me shipping info, I'll contact the UK anti-spam authority. I'm pretty sure the UK has strict unauthorized email contact laws just like we do.

I really liked my ESP LTD ec-401. It came with dimarzio 36th anny pickups. Really good tone. I got used to the extra large frets, but after some other guitars, I came to the conclusion that I didnt like the frets after all. Dunno what you budget is, but my gibson les paul tribute, 2017 (iirc) is really nice. I did have to dress the fret edges, and will still most likely swap the pickups, and definitely the wiring, but, for $800 ish for a made in us gibson? I'm happy.

I would prefer one with a tad fatter neck, but, it is what it is. It plays like a LP, and sounds like one. The one I bought was a floor model, so, had some scratches already, which is why I got it 25% off msrp. Its also non weight relieved, and satin finished. No binding, so kinda like a cheaper studio. I've seen the new versions of mine are weight relieved, and have a maple neck. Not for me.

DemonGeminiX

I'm looking for cheap. The cheaper, the better. Something that I won't be apprehensive about ripping the guts out if I don't like the tone, and if I don't like the feel of it, won't have a problem with passing it off to a family member. Since I'm a strat/super strat player, it's entirely possible that I won't like the shape of the single cut. But I need to hang on to it for a few weeks to see if I can get used to it, which is why I don't bother with test runs in brick and mortar music stores. You just can't tell if you're going to adjust to something over the course of several hours.

I'm looking at Epiphones and ESPs. I was looking at Harley Bentons but apparently they use nonstandard sized hardware which can be difficult to replace (I tend to get rid of everything of Chinese pot-metal design). They are really cheap though, so that's a plus. If I end up liking the shape I could always pass that off and pick up a better brand.

And oh yeah, fuck Gibson. Recent events have made a lot of us guitar addicts turn our backs on the company and their products.

Well, so far Amazon is 0 for 2 on their same day delivery offers with us. The first time was a few months ago and it was an offer of free same day delivery. Didn't come until 2 or 3 days later (I forget which now). And then on Friday, our washing machine started leaking when the kid was doing laundry during the day. Wife went home at lunch that day and found out it was the filter assembly thing that you unscrew to clean it all out. Amazon had the part we needed (no one locally did at all which is dumb because the nearly everyone sells Samsung here and it's a standard part that goes across several models of washing machines). Anyways, we found it on Amazon on Saturday and when it was in the cart it offered an upgrade in shipping. For $5.99 we could have it the same day. Well worth it because we all had laundry to do. Well, just like last time, it didn't happen. Delivery was supposed to be by 9 PM, but around 6 we got the message from Amazon that they refunded the shipping and that the package was "running late" and gave a new delivery window of between Sunday and Tuesday. It did show up mid-afternoon yesterday, so we were able to get laundry rolling again, but still, why offer the fucking same day shipping option if you can't fulfill it?

And I'm okay with this. We didn't have any plans for the 4th anyways. Plus, I wouldn't be able to get to sleep until late on the night of the 4th anyway because we aren't far from where the city sets off the fireworks display and it's loud as fuck.

I don;t know how some of you guys do it that live in larger cities than I do. Denver metro is almost at 3 million people now and it's just ridiculous how congested everything has become. Traffic, crowds, pollution, crime...it's all gone up like crazy. Half a million people have moved to Denver metro in just the last 10 years. Maybe that's why I notice it so much I guess, when I first got here the population was probably closer to just about 2 million and now there's a million more people, half of which moved here in the last 10 years. And there isn't any end in sight. :|

I was too young to remember a whole lot about living in Philly, but my parents used to take the city bus everywhere they couldn't walk to. Whenever I go back to visit, the traffic's always nasty. When I lived in Atlanta, traffic on the interstate was ridiculous but there were always alternate routes that you could hit once off of them. Savannah was a little bit hairier because there was basically one main road that led to everywhere, and it would get ridiculously backed up. Taking back routes on side roads would take 20-30 minutes longer and some of them would force you to drive through ghetto. I love living in a small town compared to Atlanta and Savannah.

Denver's infrastructure wasn't built to handle as many people that are living here now and the roads are awful. The traffic is ridiculous and the routes that used to be shortcuts are almost worse than using the highways or main roads. And I've never seen drivers so affected by the weather, I'm sure it's got to be all the transplants from places that don't get much weather variances. Any time it rains here, people freak out. Going home from work yesterday traffic was actually moving along rather nicely, until the cars ahead hit a patch of rain. Then the brake lights all come on and everyone slows down to a crawl. IT WASN'T EVEN RAINING THAT HARD FFS. It's things like this that make the commute unbearable, not to mention the conditions of the roads, they are falling apart in all areas of the city. And all bets are off when it snows, then people lose their freaking minds here, even though winter comes every single year, nobody seems to remember how to drive in it.

And then just the crowds of people. On top of just the sheer amount of people moving here now, there's all the tourists that come too. You can't even go up in the mountains to get away from people anymore unless you want to go to the REALLY remote parts of the backcountry. All the 4WD trails are packed, the trailheads are packed, and it can take you anywhere from 3 to 8 hours to get back to Denver if you are coming back down from the mountains on a busy weekend day.

I guess I'm just over it.

And what's great about these huge projects is, that by the time all the studies have been done, getting the approval, then getting the project underway, that by the time it's finished, it's already 'obsolete' for the new amount of traffic that is now on the highways in the city.

As far as projects finishing on time...back in, I wanna say around 2005, RTD (Regional Transportation District, it runs all the public transit in Denver metro) put a light rail system project on the ballot. It was supposed to run trains all over the city, help cut down on congestion and if passed, would be completed city-wide by 2012 or 2013. Well, it passed, and it's 2019 now and it's STILL not close to being done. They are still working on the section near my house (north suburbs) and the latest info was that it would be done by Spring 2018. The train out to DIA breaks down at least once a week and the crossings don't work right so they have to physically man each crossing with guys with stop signs in case the gates don't close. The project has run out of money more than once and RTD is already cutting back on some of the services at some stops because the amount of riders isn't what was expected. AND we subsidize RTD by paying an RTD sales tax on every purchase. It's ridiculous.

I hadn't had hot dogs for years and bought a pack recently. I didn't buy the best brand and after the second meal of them I decided no more.

I like smokies done on the BBQ, but that's a whole different ball game.

Besides the hooker farting thing, he also got charged for hitting a woman and possibly sleeping with underage girls.

He got caught videotaping people with hidden cameras and claimed it was to prevent possible theft by people that worked for him

One of the tapes caught an underage girl on it.

In fact there was a class action lawsuit by a group of women claiming he taped them without consent. He only paid out 1.2 million total when he lost so the women's lawyers must have sucked.

Even after reaching 90 years old and living the high life, his estate was estimated to be worth over 50 million and song rights were worth 10-20 million after he died.

Which brings me to a question - When one of our mighty celebrities has fallen, do we need to 'erase' them from pop culture?

eg Micheal Jackson is found to be a child molester and let's say you really enjoy some of his songs.

Do we stop supporting the artist in every way, including not listening to their music and watching their movies and TV shows?

It's becoming a common thing to erase celebs who have been accused or found guilty of a crime. Even if it was a post from 2008 on Twitter that made a slightly racist reference or joke, you're out.

I feel the same way. I think some actors and musicians are quite good and won't stop enjoying their material.

There have been times though...like when I first heard Rock Hudson was gay and died from AIDS.

He was one of the first and only actors from the golden age who came out in the 80's after doing Dynasty and he was such a lady's man. It shook me

Hey, RBP, what were those smart bulbs (or was it outlets) that you use? And are they Alexa compatible?

We use Kasa dimmable bulbs by TP-Link. There are 2 types, dimmable and tuneable. Dimmable is brightness control, tuneable is to adjust hue. Definitely the dimmable ones for us.

We started with outlets but I like the bulbs much better. And yes they are Alexa compatible. In fact, you can use Alexa commands without setting up the commands. "Alexa. dim living room lamp" works for example.

They also have their own app that you can use to control all your Kasa devices.

I am not positive, but I would assume you'd just leave the 3-way switch on max power. The dimmables are infinite from 0-100% and you can set custom presets in the app - the switch doesn't matter the level of brightness if control by the bulb. And yes, you can just turn them on and off.

As an example, I installed a ceiling fan with a light in the bedroom. I leave the switch on all summer so the fan runs, but tell Alexa to turn the light on and off or dim or brighten. No more remembering which pull chain is for which, and the dimming feature in there is awesome.

Perot didn't win any states, but he pulled enough votes (almost 19% of the popular vote) to change the outcome of the election. IMHO based on their views, more of the people that voted for Perot most likely would have voted Bush over Clinton in that election. That would have swung the election the other way.
