You better watch what you say
You better watch what you do to me
Don't get carried away
Girl, if you can do better than me
Go
Yeah, go
But remember,

Good love is hard to find
Good love is hard to find
You got lucky, babe
You got lucky, babe
When I found you

Quarter in a payphone
Drying laundry on the line
Watching Sun Tea in the window
Pocket Watch tellin' time
Seems like only yesterday, I'd get a blank cassette
Record the country countdown, 'cause I couldn't buy it yet

If we drove
All the way to Dallas just to buy an Easter dress
We'd take along a Rand McNally,
Stand in line to pay for gas
God knows that shifting gears
Ain't what it used to be
I learned to drive that 55
Just like a queen, three on a tree

Hey whatever happened to,
Waitin' your turn
Doing it all by hand,
'Cause when everything is handed to you
It's all only worth as much as the time you put in
In all just seems so good the way we had it
Back before everything became, automatic

I did the same probably around the same time - listed them as a job-lot on ebay, can't remember what they sold for tbh. I'd just gotten to the point where i never used them anymore, all of my music was stored on my computer/phone/mp3 player so they were just gathering dust in a huge stand my joiner mate built for me. For whatever purpose it serves. Content, cord cutting... my LG TV does the app/content streaming thing, but there's things it can't get that the Roku has. Amazon has the Ultra version on sale for $70 (not a prime day deal, I think they're just competing with everybody else that has it on sale). Is it worth it? I don't want the Fire TV junk... I don't like the idea of Amazon spying on me.

If you want 4K content and need Atmos and DTS-X audio a huge NO, buy a Nvidia Shield or Apple TV 4k. If you dont care nor need it then go for it.

It's a good deal, it retails for $99 and that's a better deal than I got when Best Buy was selling them on sale for $79. This one is the top of the line, you can hardwire it into your network or go wireless, it has the USB port and can do 4K. It's totally up to you depending on what you want it to be able to do. Plus this one (the Ultra) comes with the headphones that plug into the remote.

A sad story. My best bud from high school moved to Kelowna and played a lot of men's league hockey out there. He played defense and was hit in the face with a puck (it was the time of no or partial face shields only). His face went numb and two weeks later the feeling wouldn't go away so he decided to see a doctor. He was diagnosed with MS as a result. He's still around but is at the point of using a chair full time.

It all depends on the blade. Some blades are and some aren't. Some blades are awesome up to 3 or 4 shaves, and some blades suck straight out of the package. Most blades don't go further than 2 shaves with me since my beard is so coarse and heavy. My facial hair ruins cartridge razors mercilessly.

Hal-9000

I have to go shave and coincidentally am down to my last blade. Since I have a beard it's only going to be good for about 1 or 2 shaves at best. Usually 1.

His face went numb and two weeks later the feeling wouldn't go away so he decided to see a doctor. He was diagnosed with MS as a result. He's still around but is at the point of using a chair full time.

My dad was diagnosed with MS nearly 30 years ago, i didn't think it had anything to do with blunt trauma impact?

He's 70 now and still fairly mobile so i guess we're lucky in a way :)

No I didn't mean to connect those dots. That was the way he found out about having the disease.

Nice to hear that your Dad is doing better than expected

One of our friends did a Facebook kickstarter before it was fashionable where we got to donate to help pay for Liberation Therapy (I may have the name wrong).

Him and my bud with MS went to Poland, had the procedure and when he came back the physical difference was completely noticeable. Unfortunately his old symptoms returned within 6 months/a year.

Try to look for Casa Di Mama. They really are way better than normal frozen pizza. I get mine on sale for 2.97 which is a real steal up here.

Last night I had a Delissio pizza and it was total ass. The crust tasted like a roofing shingle and there was no cheese or sauce at all. It also upset my stomach a little which doesn't normally happen.

This one is pricier, but it's damn near the best frozen pizza I've found.

You've been given a company car? I didn't know that was even a thing any more. What a HUGE perk.

Wouldn't it make more sense to give cars to people who need a car for their job and can't afford one? What sense does it it make to give an executive a car to drive to the office? But I digress.

 No it's not just an executive car, my new role will be on the road a lot, part of the expectation is doing a lot of b2b type stuff. I'll have tons of road trips over to Vancouver Island and the Interior for meetings. I'll also be driving my underwriters around a fair bit, taking them to their assigned brokers for meet-and-greets and training. It's standard to give managers in the industry in my kind of 'marketing manager' role cars.

I'll be away from home a lot more. Also on days where you just drive to-and-from the office and don't have any off-site meetings to justify driving it that day, you have to personally pay that back (deducting it from your expenses). You're also not allowed to take it on personal road trips, so I'm glad my wife still has a car.

Don't get me wrong though... this is the perk of all perks. The parking pass downtown they get us is like $400 a month alone. No more bus for me, and I feel a bit guilty/undeserving of it. Still going to miss my little mazda though

Didn't even get to see any of the nitro cars run :sad2: But if we would have stayed we would have been there all freaking night since there was more rain on the way and no guarantee that we still would have seen much because to dry the track they have to wait until the rain COMPLETELY stops and drying the track and laying down a new layer of rubber takes from 30 to 45 minutes.

He's a shelter cat I adopted way back, so best guess is he's around 17 or 18 years old, but that doesn't make it any easier. The wife is taking him into the vet this morning to see what they think, but if he's not doing well, we want to make sure we do the humane thing for him, we don't want him to suffer at all. :(

And the other thing is, and this will sound awful, but what kind of money are we wanting to spend on an 18 year old cat in failing health? If they want to run tests and all kinds of things, it can run into the hundreds of dollars quickly and in the end we still might end up needing to put him down. I dunno what to do. :|

Hey don't feel bad. I had a discussion with a dental clinic that treats patients with issues like dementia, comas and cancer and the head of the clinic used this metaphor - If the boat is sinking no matter what, should we attempt to do a bunch of carpentry work to save it? Meaning if my Mom needed complex dental work is the pain and struggle (and cost) worth it when she's 83 and going to pass soon anyways?

I believe the same thing applies to animals. Put the animal in more distress by applying a bandaid fix so you can have a few more days with them?

An under skin lesion, slightly raised, looks like a ring, discolored. Can be really itchy. If you let it go, it'll spread. Easily transmitted to other people.

This is personal and hopefully helps. After my father passed I beat myself up for months thinking I should have called 911 earlier because I didn't realize he was in distress. Summarizing I sat in our spare room upstairs while he showered (he struggled with showering) and ensured he was toweled off and got back into bed. He never asked me to help towel off until that morning. I kept looking in on him as he had gotten up twice and I made him breakfast/tea and then had the shower. A big day for him in his condition. Last time I looked in on him he was laying on the bed with his eyes open, hands in a comfortable position almost folded across his stomach, looking up. His chest was rising and falling. Next time I looked in on him he was in the same position and then I noticed part of his ears were turning purple and he had a little blue line forming in his lip. I called 911 immediately.

After he died I lost my shit with the paramedics and said I should have called earlier, that could have possibly saved his life :| The head paramedic who helped me with the coroner and funeral home arrangements said and I quote, "You are not God. Judging by your father's condition he was going to die today no matter what. It was his time. He had congestive heart disease symptoms along with his cancer issues and even if we could have revived him, he would have been in really bad shape."

I hate to put this in writing but now I'm feeling the same way about my Mom. I wish there was a way to ease her out of this life.

Part of love I think is knowing when it's time to let go...for your cat's sake. Try not to feel bad about it.

I complained to my internet provider and now pay exactly half price for the same service and no monthly data limit! :wank:

I was on a no term plan for 80/month and they listed a flash sale last weekend for new customers. If you signed for a two year term the cost was 40 month for the same service.

After some finagling on the phone I got the deal, even being an existing customer and the rep threw in the no data limit too :)

I already have the hardware and account set up so for the next 24 months I get half price internet every month. I'm pretty happy because it's a large monthly expense for me.

Yup, we've gotten similar deals by calling up and bitching. They only offer the good deals to new customers and that's bullshit. But you call up and complain and hint you might change providers and suddenly the deals become available for you too.

Update on the cat: I'm kind of a little pissed at our vet, they basically 'cost shamed' my wife when she was there yesterday because instead of just going straight to a blood test ($170) after the physical exam showed Nermal to be doing okay, she asked if we could just get some meds to treat him symptomatically. So when the tech came back with the discharge instructions and meds instructions, she handed her a print out for low cost vets in the area. We spend A LOT of money there, we aren't fucking poor, we just would rather take it slow spending all kinds of money on an 18 year old cat FFS. It was still a $211 visit to the vet yesterday.

Anyhoo, they gave him fluids (it's weird, they inject it under the skin and they end up looking like the Hunchback of Notre Dame  We've had it done to the dogs before when they were sick and it slowly gets absorbed into their body, kinda like an internal IV) and a dose of the meds by injection and sent them home. By the time I got home from work, there was a great deal of improvement in how he was acting and behaving, so we're hopeful this will pan out and not just be something temporary. We'll know more when the meds run out and just go from there. But so far so good.

It seems to come and go and to affect different people at different times. It's weird. We just need to have it removed from the site, but that's beyond what I know how to do.

Just saw a local report on apartments in our city. The rent is so high across the board they did a calculation. If you work full time at minimum wage (15 per hour) and use the 30% figure of your wage for rent, there are no apartments available. If you make 20.75 per hour full time you can rent a one bedroom apartment. If you make 24.50 per hour you can get a two bedroom. Barely.

My single Dad buddy was talking to me last night about possibly losing his house. He was in a condo, sold that, got some equity and moved into a house with his son.

He worked for Scouts Canada and they downsized, he lost his job and now he works part time at London Drugs making 15/hr. He's around the same age/skillset as me.

I feel so bad for him but am secretly bummed because he was my parachute when I hit the street. I've never told him he was my back up plan and won't now.

Man buying booze at Bartlett grocery store punched and kicked bagger who has special needs

...

Prosecutors said Mirabella went to the store about 9:45 p.m. to purchase alcohol, and while standing in the checkout line, he punched the bagger. Mirabella then kicked the employee in the back before leaving the store. Police took him into custody a short time later at his residence, prosecutors said.

Authorities did not provide any potential motive for the alleged battery....

That was weird. On my way to the store I noticed my neighbor's garage door was open, the little walk in one. I went into the garage and her car is still there along with all of their junk.

I tried her doorbell, no answer. Just found her number online and called, she answered and has no idea why the door would be wide open.

I told her I investigated and there's no one hiding in there with a bat. I hope that's still true as I went to the store etc in the meantime

Teh One Who Knocks

Or did you open the door and CLAIM you found it that way? :suspect:

Hal-9000
07-24-2019, 04:36 PM
The door was already open when I arrived on scene.

Years back some young fucks broke into the garage two houses away, then the neighbor's garage I'm talking about and then they tried to kick in our garage door.

Two houses away they stole a bunch of old tools that were useless, next door they only have junk in their garage so nothing was taken and they only managed to damage the frame of our walk in door by attempting to kick it or hit it with something.

It was a week night and a pretty brave thing to attempt...bashing in three garage doors in a row. I spoke to the cops handling the case the next morning before going to work and they said good luck in catching up with criminals. That was about five years ago and we haven't heard anything yet.

But yeah...I'm so concerned that someone broke in next door where two defenseless older sisters live alone, that I went right on down to Superstore to get my 2.97 Casa di Mama pizzas on sale

One thing I like about the new Ring video doorbell we got is that on the app it lets you share videos and post about shady things in the neighboring area(s). Plus you get a weekly police report of crimes in the area as well. Seems like from the postings on the app, there's people going around and breaking into cars around here. They're looking for idiots that don't lock their vehicles, but there's been a few that have had windows smashed out in them. No doubt some dumbass leaving something valuable looking out in plain sight. But still.

There's a good story where a quiet black guy moves into a fairly affluent neighborhood and the neighbors think he's strange and don't interact with him. They notice he put up multiple old school security cameras on his house and garage.

One day down the street a little girl gets abducted. Parents are heartbroken as it happened midday and no witnesses. Cops either asked or the black guy offered, and they used his security footage to discover the girl was thrown into a vehicle. They got the vehicle description and plate number. The girl was found within hours and returned unharmed.

That's why those things rock
