But they didn't realize that I got tired of the porn/death pics etc within the first couple of weeks. I was absolutely amazed a person could type a question in and find info about almost any subject on the planet :shock:

I liked to read and remember discovering that most tech manuals, books, encyclopedias, stories were online in some form.

For example I used to have a monster of a book that reviewed over 1000 movies and would use it before going to the video store. Internet obsoleted that beloved resource in a heartbeat :lol:

Woke up at 5:45am yesterday to drop my son off at band practice at 6:45 then went straight to work. Got there at 7:30 and left at 4:45. Got home at 6:15 to find my home kinda stuffy. Thermostat said 73 but it was 101f yesterday so seems ok. Within 30 minutes it raised 2 degrees in my house. AC was blowing but air wasn't cold. Went out and checked the condensers and the fan wasn't kicking on my downstairs unit. :meh: Called around and got my old AC guy to come out but he didnt get there until 9pm. Ending up needing a new capacitor to kick the fan on, 2lbs of refrigerant and the coils cleaned, cost me $400. Could have been worse but I didnt get to bed till almost midnight and still had to be up at 5:45. :banghead:

My wireless mouse had been fucking up so I stopped and got myself a new mouse/keyboard combo yesterday. Not the keyboard feels a little different, but it's not hard to get used to, but the mouse, I hate getting a new mouse, it never feels the same for the longest time after using one mouse for so long.

Yeah, you usually have to pick which feels the least worst when getting a combo kit, but it's the economical way to go. I splurged for here at the island where I surf from my couch on a 50" tv, nice small backlit wireless rechargable keyboard from logitech. (surprisingly I only have to charge it 3 or 4 times a year) and a small cheap mouse. Typically I just buy the microsoft 3500 mice for 15 bucks but I wanted to take advantage of logitechs "unifying" to only use one usb dongle so I found a mouse that didnt feel too bad.

The set I just bought is one of those Logitech sets with the unifying dongle. So at least next time I can buy just a mouse or a keyboard if I need one. I'm pretty happy with the Logitech stuff.

Yeah, I'm looking at the official calendar and they've got Labor Day, a Fall break (2 days) around Columbus Day (not Indigenous People's Day down here), Veteran's Day in November, then Thanksgiving break (full week), then they get out on the 18th of December for Christmas and go back January 2nd. Off on January 20th for MLK Jr Bday, off Feb 13 - 18 for some nonspecific student/teacher holiday centered around President's Day, Spring Break from April 6th - 10th (with weekends, they're done on the 4th and they return on the 13th), then they get out for the summer on May 22nd, if and only if there are no days off for hurricanes. If school gets canceled during the year for hurricanes, those days have to be made up and they're tacked on at the end of the school year.

That's the joys of working at financial companies. They build these multi-million dollar legacy systems and only replace them every 20+ years, always with massive headaches. Poor guy probably has to use IE (or perhaps he really is just computer illiterate) :lol:

One of our main pieces of software only fully functions in IE. One of our other main systems is still DOS based. It's a joke. Funny thing is though, the DOS based program from the 80's works far quicker than any newer browser-based platform they've built in recent years, the main issue is that nobody is left in IT who knows how to service it, and there's no third party support left either.

Now our newer system that runs in IE has been in use by half the company for 8+ years, they've been trying to roll it out for other departments and promised it's coming 'in 6-12 months' for that entire time, but after 8 years it's already completely outdated and unacceptable to the first half of the company they rolled it out to. Allegedly it has cost our little company of 300 employees over $20 million and I think we'll probably scrap it before it's even really complete. I've heard stories like this from almost everyone in the banking and insurance industries at various companies, but the cycle just keeps repeating.....

I don't know, but I'm not taking any chances. The computer's 10 years old, so the thermal paste I used on it is 10 years old as well. I ordered a new tube of paste with a liquid cooler and until I get it, the desktop's off until I get it installed. I'm gonna start disassembling it today. I hope I didn't burn out the processor.

On top of that, I couldn't log in to my laptop, because the log in page wouldn't pop up on start. I'm thinking one of the updates fucked it up. I tried everything that I found online through my phone to fix it, but nothing worked. So I just finished reinstalling windows on my laptop and he we are right now. I'm posting from a ridiculously fresh install. Now I have to set everything up again.

I'm having so much fun right now. I'm not turning anything else on at all today, just to be safe. Yay! :lol:

A good way to remove internal dust build up when you can't afford compressed air is to bring your pc into the shower :thumbsup:

Imagine Epstein did commit suicide. A couple of weeks ago he apparently moved close to a half billion in funds to an account that authorities have indicated they may have trouble accessing for whatever reasons.

I say humorously - That's a little misleading considering there's about 10 boxes of pie sitting under THAT HUGE THREE DOLLAR SIGN.

She has a heated exchange in some Asian dialect with the bakery worker. Bakery worker comes out in a huff looking at me, takes the sign down.

I ask for a refund now that the pie and my morning is ruined. The pie will taste less good now [-(

Although I'm pretty picky when it comes to store bought apple pies. Usually the apples are rarely done right. They're either to hard (like undercooked) or they have a chewy texture to them.

Most of the bakery items like that are made by Farmer's Market, which do a good job on pies and cookies.

No, but would they appreciate the way he has been treating you since everything has happened? So all in all, he got what he deserved and maybe, just maybe, it will have humbled him a bit/ I guess you won't find out about that though until you have to interact with him next time.

Your post is all full of logic and correct ideals...there's truth there but also embarrassment. I know something is gone and being very serious and then shutting up about it, I think my desire for his approval is gone along with helping my self esteem a little. It felt like reaching a destination without knowing I was going somewhere. I know for sure next time we see each other in person he'll be listening more attentively :lol:

Saturday night at around 10:30 I get a call from the cordless phone at the place that looks after my Mom.

A nurse in very broken English says my Mom had a temperature, didn't use the bathroom etc and I asked how long has this been going on for and how is she now?

Person says they gave her Tylenol and her temp came down to 37.2 (which is normal body temperature), she took some fluids and used the bathroom.

So I ask - You're making me worried calling here with this information. Is there something I should do?

She says - Oh no, just wanted to tell you before the night nurse came on duty.

They called me one Sunday morning to tell me they were painting the hallways.

Every time that number comes up on my cell I instantly brace myself and think about my next actions and phone calls that need to be made.

And if I say - Stop phoning me with trivial shit! They'll take it the wrong way and not call again.

I couldn't even get him out of his room (which had no chairs and he had a roommate because we couldn't afford a private room) to go to the common area. He rarely would interact with us when we went, most of the time just staring blankly at the TV changing the channel every 30 seconds. I hate that is the last memories of my dad that I will have. So even though it's for different reasons (dementia vs stroke) I can completely sympathize with you.

Watching someone get old is never easy. I just said to my sister that now Mom is 'current Mom' and I have troubles remembering her before the dementia. My only advice is memories are selective meaning you can select them too. Try to remember the better times with your Dad, like maybe watching a game together or just eating a meal. One of my best and worst memories of my Dad was watching the last concert of the Tragically Hip. Gord Downie had been diagnosed with brain cancer and my Dad asked me who he was, why was this so important to Canada?

After watching a few songs my Dad said - Well it's not my music but I sure admire that young man's courage. I bet he's got a lot of doctors with him.

My Dad was just in the diagnosis/treatment phase of his cancer and we averaged two appointments per week. Consultation/imaging, then treatment.

I watched one Grey Cup, one Super Bowl and one tragically Hip concert with him before he left me :(

Hey I was cleaning the BBQ this past weekend because I hadn't used it for years. I cut my thumb with the wire brush and immediately thought of you and the tetanus shot :rofl:

Brush and BBQ was filthy. I'm not sure what all of the crap was I cleaned out of it as I'm the only one who's used it :-k
