Oooh, results from your physical?

Hey I was cleaning the BBQ this past weekend because I hadn't used it for years. I cut my thumb with the wire brush and immediately thought of you and the tetanus shot

Brush and BBQ was filthy. I'm not sure what all of the crap was I cleaned out of it as I'm the only one who's used it :-k

Now you need a tetanus shot

Yeah, it was a bit high when he took it at the visit last week. Not horribly high, but high enough to be concerning. He's going to re-evaluate in 3 to 6 months and maybe then prescribe something if it's still high.

Some advice - A doctor royally pissed my Dad off once. So my Dad put himself on a no sugar diet. He had high blood pressure, fast heartbeat and high cholesterol for most of his adult life. It runs in our family I guess.

After three months he lost 29 pounds, his blood pressure and cholesterol dropped without medication

What he did was drastic, but it can work. He also limited fats etc but for the most part it was just substituting things like sugar free cookies and ice cream.

Not trying to make a joke here. For DGX's situation wouldn't it make sense to have an inflatable raft? If the water level climbs during a storm I couldn't imagine how serious flooding would affect him.

I guess with hurricanes it's flying debris, water and electricity outages that are the main worries :-k

Person would need a few gallons of water and some easy to eat food.

Teh One Who Knocks

A raft might be a good idea if you are near enough to the coast where major flooding could be an issue.

Georgia has a major SE coast right above Flow-rida :-k

I saw a news piece last night that said some people who live in New Orleans/Florida don't prepare for storms. They don't even have storm shutters and the windows are the first thing to go.

A lot of people just use plywood to nail over the windows. I guess it's the cheaper route to go.

I've considered on multiple occasions moving to northwest Georgia. I prefer mountains to the coast anyway. It's just not feasible right now.

Generally speaking, if you look at the east coast of the US and go all the way down an east coast map and find the part of the coast line that's furthest in compared to the rest of the coast line, that's where I'm at. That offers us some protection from hurricanes as they generally don't come straight in at our latitude. Because of weather systems, storms usually move up the coastline in my general area in a curved fashion. In addition to our position on the coast line, we have barrier islands that protect the coast too. Subsequently, we usually only get glancing blows from outer wind bands of the storms. If we see any eyewall action, the storm has to travel over land to get to us, and that weakens storms significantly. In short, my location is usually really fucking lucky every year. The Carolinas and Florida always get torn up and we rarely see damage.

Where I'm at, I don't worry much about flooding. I'm a bit inland and I'm on higher ground comparatively speaking when considering the rest of the county. I suppose it could happen if it rained torrentially for several days, but it barely ever rains that much. I mean it would have to be like The Great Flood. Granted, I am in the southeastern most county in Georgia, but the barrier islands usually bare the brunt of any coastal flooding.

Pine trees are a consideration because they're shallow rooted. High winds can blow them over into a house really easily. Oak trees are deeper and stronger so they're better to have around than the pines. As long as there's nothing left out on people's lawns, then the only debris I'd be concerned about is that coming from foliage and that type of stuff. Houses are generally built to withstand hurricanes up to Category 3 so the only major damage I'd be concerned about is roofing tiles being blown off the house. I've never heard of anyone's windows being blown out. Home builders take their construction seriously down here.

Electricity and water would be a consideration. It seems like the water company's a joke around here. The water cuts off for an hour for no reason, and then we have a boil warning for 3 days after. It was better before I moved and was on a well. I could always just stock up on water throughout the year to be prepared for hurricane season. Electricity will go out too, but I could cook on a charcoal grill if it came to that. What I really need is one of those whole house generators that kick on when the power goes out, if I really wanted to mitigate that issue. But those are kind of ridiculously expensive.

Orlando's in the dead center of the peninsula of Florida. Hurricanes have to travel over land to get to it. It'll get hit, but generally it won't suffer as much damage as the coastal towns do. Most hurricanes will span Florida, except for the panhandle. So when we're talking Florida hits, either it's hitting the main peninsula or it's hitting the panhandle. A hurricane will generally hit one or the other, but not both.

Cortizone into the shoulder muscle, it lasts weeks. Should be enough to get me through Ragweed season. (severely allergic)

I really can't commit to the seasonal shots because I would need three shots every week for two years then three shots every two weeks for the rest of my life. The rest of the year I tolerate allergens ok with no meds or the occasional nasal spray or pill off the shelf.

Depending on your symptoms Benedryl works ok for a quick relief but makes me loopy, Zyrtec works well as a once a day solution with near zero groggyness (for me at least) Nasocort or flonase nasal spray works a bit for mild symptoms in sinuses.

Typically after cutting grass/spending the day outside I'll shower or at least wash my face/eyes out and blow my nose, Even on cool nights I keep windows closed and ac on. I sleep better with a fan on in the room but it really hits my sinuses bad the next morning.

If you're suffering in the morning you're either allergic to house dust/dustmites/dander or you're just delayed reacting to stuff you picked up the day before. Try rinsing off in the shower before bed and wash the bedding more frequently & get a new pillow with a hypoallergenic cover.

Thanks. I find the chemical approach very effective, but only for acute. But good for those days when it's really unbearable ( which seems to coincide with wind, humidity and other factors - don't have an exact understanding yet).

If you're dealing with headaches due to sinus congestion, I find that when I eat hot sauce, it usually dislodges all the gunk caught up in my sinuses. That's my go to for that sort of thing. Pick up a bottle of Tabasco or another hot sauce. It doesn't take a lot, maybe a quarter of a teaspoon or slightly less. Put it on your tongue and hold it there for a few minutes. You'll know it's working when you can feel your sinuses start to drain and the headache dissipates.

That's one thing I will say about Vermont (at least when I lived there), they knew how to take care of the roads in the winter. It could snow 2 feet and by the end of the day they would have the roads down to bare pavement even if it was -20° out. Of course back then they used a shit ton of rock salt before the environmentalists complained about it :-k

When you take the back roads, the scenic route away from the Interstate (which is longer but a helluva lot less boring, btw), you see peach, peanut, and onion stands all over the place. I know, right?

You should see some of the houses though. They've got huge estates with dirt road driveways... houses that if they were built in suburbia they would probably cost $650,000+, but in the back country, probably only cost them $50,000. Probably been passed down from generation to generation over the years. And a bunch of them have huge land with lakes and full forests surrounding them...

I really didn't want to come home.

Never heard of it. I think the most that's on tv down here now is Battlebots.

Factorio is pc game on Steam. It's like a basic gathering resource game where you mine iron and copper ore. Then you refine them into plates, then you use plates to build C&C-like structures that open technology trees.

Right now I'm using conveyor belts but through the tech advancements you can built programmable circuits into robots and other machines.

The main premise in that you're on a planet looking for resources to build a rocket ship and leave the planet. There are alien attacks, day and night cycles but I turn those off.

I've probably put in 20 hours and am just at the stage where I can build railroad tracks and coal burning trains that haul shit.

It's really an amazing piece of software in terms of depth. I estimate I'm at the 7% complete level

Do a Google image search just to see the scenarios people are building  I'm a total rookie.

They asked for business casual, and I hate going any further than jeans and a t-shirt for anything. I'm just that laid back in my choice of clothing styles. So I get there, and apparently the "requirement" was more like a suggestion, or probably more like wishful thinking on their part, cause every other diner looked like beach bums, hardcore sports fans, and a few that looked like they were in a biker gang. So not only did I dress up according to the "requirement", which I despise, but I felt a tad bit overdressed when I got there.

I guess it made sense for the beach bummy people, since it was already up into the low 90s and forecast to get up to 98° outside. I was actually happy I had the lightweight summer business casual attire on by the time I got home.

She doesn't even want anything, she just wants me up.Usually on the weekends I need to be up around 4-ish to let the dogs out, and that's fine, that's actually sleeping in a little for me, but lately Pepper has started baking at random times in the middle of the night. Today it was at 1:30 AM and usually once in up, I have a hell of a time falling back asleep. So I've been basically awake since then.

She manages to get 'sick' after me and the wife have already left for work. And of course she was completely fine when I got home from work, imagine that  And we'll have to agree to disagree on the 'mental health day' for high school students. ESPERCIALLY on a Monday after the weekend.

They only showed some city cops and said - He was apprehended quickly and our authorities were carrying real automatic assault rifles.

Similar to when those two asshats were being hunted in Northern Manitoba, they showed our RCMP guys dressed in full assault gear similar to what delta force or black ops guys wear.

We have this polite reputation but our authorities don't mess around when shit gets bad.

Do you think Trudeau is done over this?

This is Singh's reaction. (Turban wearing NDP leader) Passive-aggressive is an understatement as he's implying much  This is manna from heaven for him...

"After issuing an initial condemnation of the image, Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democratic party, released a second video, in which he emotionally described the racism he and many others faced growing up in Canada.

'Seeing this image today – the kids that see this image the people who see this image – are going to think about all the times in their life that they were made fun of, that they were hurt…that they were insulted, that they were made to feel less, because of who they are,' said Singh, the first non-white leader of a major federal party.

'Please reach out to loved ones. Please reach out to people who are suffering in silence right now. Please let them know they are loved. And they are celebrated for who they are.'

Trudeau has already said he's begging forgiveness from his supporters so to answer I'd say - If it doesn't kill his career it's going to at least lose him the election.

He did the Day-O thing too in high school (wearing an afro wig) so now it's all coming out
