I do find it kind of sad that people make a big deal about the death of some random celebrity and there are a zillion stories on it and all of Hollywood tweets/facebooks about it. But there were 4 people that died on that NYC train crash yesterday and nobody seems to care about them compared to some B list celebrity.

Now I'm not saying Paul Walker wasn't a good guy, he well could have been, but I'm guessing those 4 dead people in NYC were all equally as good as he was, they just weren't lucky enough to be famous.

Going to the Claude Monet exhibit at the Denver Art Museum on Sunday. It's the biggest exhibition of Monet art in the US in more than 20 years and the only US exhibit last year/this year. Completely sold out for the rest of the exhibit.

The exhibit was AMAZING. So many great paintings to see. I wish it wasn't such a packed exhibit because I could have spent the entire day in there. By far my favorite painter of all time. We're so lucky that the Denver Art Museum brought this to town.

But of course even better than the exhibit was getting to see all the homeless people downtown. Even right in front of the art museum, on the sidewalks, rows of tents and piles of trash, homeless people everywhere. And they wonder why people don't want to go downtown anymore. :|

My sister sent me a text telling me to listen to a song called Ghost by a band called Badflower. It was the lead single off their debut studio album 'Ok, I'm sick'. The lyrics are severely disturbing in that they describe, from a first person point of view, a person trying to commit suicide and his thoughts along with his attempts. At the end of the song, he finally succeeds.

I remember back in '93 when Kurt Cobain wrote a song called 'I Hate Myself And Want To Die' and released it on the Beavis and Butthead Experience album. He killed himself a year later.

Whoever wrote this song, sounds to me, is crying for help and needs to be watched carefully.

I went to meet coworkers at their hotel during the free food and cocktails for guests. I'm not a guest, I shouldn't just steal free food nor drinks, but they didn't see it that way.

The desk clerk was kind enough to find me a battery I needed. I later went to the store, replaced the battery, and gave her an extra to pay it forward. She acted like I was insane.

Well, it's not a very long theory, but... society: a lot of people are turning their backs on believing in something greater than themselves, something they would have to answer to. In other words, God. Nobody wants to talk about it, but being brought up with a religious background puts morals and principles in your head. Atheists and agnostics would tell you that you could get those morals and principles without a religious upbringing, but look at where we're at. It's obviously not happening. People believe there are no consequences. They're brought up believing that. Now these people are getting elected and passing laws dumbing down the consequences for crime, because they don't believe in anything. Nobody's being taught manners. Nobody's being taught boundaries. Nobody's being taught to respect themselves and others. Because they don't believe there are consequences. They fear nothing.

The NCNS issue is a lack of respect, a lack of appreciation. It's like not sending a thank you card, or at the very least, calling or texting the person who sent you a gift to say thank you for the gift you've received from them. It boils down to manners and entitlement.

The coworkers thing: I don't know. Is it stealing if you're your coworkers' guest? Maybe they view it as them sharing what they've been given with you. If you feel that strongly about it, don't partake. That choice to partake was ultimately yours to begin with, right? Maybe you would feel differently about it if there were servers there that could refuse you, and didn't?

The battery: You are insane. :lol: Sure, it was a nice gesture, but wouldn't a tip have been nicer? She went out of her way to serve you. She's in the service industry, so doing that sort of thing is part of her job. Or she may have gone further than she needed to, but maybe she takes pride in going that extra mile while she's working. Or maybe batteries have become standard fare in the service industry nowadays because of technology. As technology changes, so does everything else that the technology permeates.

We deal with the NCNS bullshit all the time here. We actually have more NCNS's than we do have people that show up for either interviews or the job that they accepted. We've had this funny Irish girl at our company for a few years. You get a pint or two in her and she swears like a sailor, cunt this, fuck that. But I just learned today that she has and will never address one of our colleagues by their first name: Fanny. This Chinese gal at work's name is Fanny, and apparently to Irish folks that is a far, far worse word than 'cunt' (which I'm sure many of the North American's would agree is one of the most vulgar words to us over here). I don't know what made this story pop back into my head today but...

Back when I was in high school, I worked at a gas station/local garage. We were right off the exit on the interstate and we were basically the last stop for gas if you were going north into Canada and the first stop for gas when you were coming back into the States. We were about 7 miles from the Canadian border. In the summer, we would get lots of tourists and whatnot, just because of the interstate. Either people going to Canada on vacation, or Canadians coming the the US, or even lots of Canadians coming down for cheap gas and cigarettes, even though back then the exchange rate was somewhere around 30%. So during tourist season (summer thru fall) we'd get lots of people coming and going, and lots of people would ask for directions if they were headed somewhere in particular. And the rest of this is going to sound made up, but it's the absolute truth and if it hadn't happened to me, even I wouldn't believe it :lol:

Some guy pulled in and I was out picking up trash or something in the yard. He calls me over and says he needs directions. He's unfolding a map on the hood of his car. I figure it's gotta be a map of Vermont or possibly New York (we were only about 20 miles from the New York border to the west) or maybe even Quebec. I get up to his car and it's a full map of the United States and he asks me, with an honest to goodness straight face and I know he wasn't trying to screw with me just by the look on his face, as he point to the map and says, where am I? I do look at him for a minute though still because I really still wasn't sure if he was being serious, but he was. So I point to Vermont on the map and he says "just a sec" and goes into his car and comes back with another map. As he unfolds this one, this time it's a map of Vermont and he again asks where he is. So I show him, he's thankful, folds up his maps and leaves.

There's still part of me all these years later that wonders if I had pointed to a different state, like New Hampshire or New York or even Maine or Massachusetts, would he have believed me and thought that's where he was? :lol:

Does anyone have any familiarity with basic city municipal codes? I know codes can vary from city to city, but I'm just curious about something and I can't find it anywhere in the clusterfuck of a website my city has for the municipal codes.

Basically, every home has a driveway and you can't park in front of and block someone else's driveway. But, if someone starts parking an RV in their side yard, and even goes so far as to put gravel down to make what appears to be an additional driveway, does that really count as a real driveway now and you can't park in front of it and block it?

Thank god it's the secondary drive on my new computer or I'd be pissed. Going to take 4-8 weeks to get a replacement back but at least I've still got a decent sized primary.

My wife just got off a 36 hour shift and simply texted: 'I'm for it! I just hope they let ambulances through, they're blocking the only hospital with a stroke center.' My wife normally stays out of all politics, she's super non-confrontational, so she couldn't have predicted this fallout. Her friend responded with some wild twitter post about white genocide of Natives, and then left the group chat :rofl: This bitch has been our friend for 15+ years, she came to our wedding... and that little comment about ambulances kills it. Unbelievable. Talk about being fucking fragile.

Unless the incumbent was WILDLY UNPOPULAR and the party turned against them, anyone else running against the sitting President in the primary basically has zero chance of winning, especially because the party (in the case the republican party) will put all their support behind the President. Most of the people that challenge a sitting president in the primary are doing it on principal I guess? Because they realistic have no shot whatsoever.
