My cousin's grandmother passed away earlier today. She was 98 years old.

sorry to hear....I dont think my gram has much time left either. she's got fluid in her lungs and her legs are swollen, mom took her to the doc and they said she has to double her diuretic or go to the hospital for a catheter for a few days to clear out all the fluid buildup....she gets home from the appt and tells my mom "I'm not doing any of that garbage." those are symptoms of congestive heart failure, and I dont think she really cares, she's not jumping through all those hoops anymore, outcomes be.....well, damned probably wouldnt be a good word to use there :doh:

After the last visit to my PCP after the ER visit, he told me that my blood pressure is high and that I really need to exercise more, mostly because I don't really exercise at all :lol: But even though I have never really taken anything terribly seriously when it comes to my health, and with some nagging/worrying from the wife, I'm going to try and do something about it. It basically started with the colonoscopy last year and I was supposed to go and see my doctor earlier this year for a blood pressure follow-up, but then the Covid hit and I just never went. He told me (in a nice way) not to blow him off this time and that I need to take better care of myself. He prescribed some meds for the blood pressure and I have a follow-up appointment in about 3 weeks now. Plus, over the weekend, I got out the treadmill we have at home. It's actually a really nice one, not a cheap-y one. All three days over the weekend I started using it. I started with 20 minutes on Christmas Day and have been between 20 and 26 minutes the other two days. Going to make sure that every day after work I hit it for 20 to 30 minutes too. I'm really trying to make an effort to be better this coming year.

Thanks, it's hard to stay active sometimes. It doesn't help that my job at work is a desk job about 85% of the time. So while you have the summer months where you are really active, I don't have that at all, I end up having 'down time' most of the time :lol: That's why I am making use of the treadmill, it's in the basement and there's a TV down there too, so no matter what the weather is, I have no excuse to hit it for at least 20 to 30 minutes. I just have to make sure that basically as soon as I get home from work, I make myself go downstairs and hop on the treadmill. It's got 18 programs in it so now I need to see if I can find the manual and see what all those exercise programs are, for now, I'm just using it manually, randomly changing the elevation and the speeds.

Well, saw the urologist on Thursday. He explained a few things about treatments (invasive and non-invasive) and it would all depend on the location of the stone. The CT Scan at the ER showed it being higher up in the kidney at the time. The doctor said the the non-invasive treatment is the sonic treatment that uses sound waves to break up the stone into smaller pieces so it will pass easier, and this can only be done if the stone is higher up like mine was at the time. He said if the stone descends too far, then it can end up behind the hip bone which then means that you can't use the sonic treatment because the hip bone blocks and disperses the sound waves. So he sent me across the street to the hospital for an x-ray to check the stone location. Got a message the next day that the stone has basically not moved since the CT Scan, so he's going to go ahead and schedule me for the sonic treatment (sigh of relief). So now, I just wait to hear when they can get me in.

I guess these machines are SUPER expensive and not every hospital has them. There's one permanent one at a hospital in downtown Denver, and there's one mobile one that goes up and down to major hospitals along the front range from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins. Luckily one of the stops is the hospital that I had the x-ray done at, and hopefully that hospital's rotation will be sooner rather than later. I mean if I have to go downtown, then I will, but I would much prefer it to be local. Especially since I need the wife to go with because I guess this is a procedure they put you under for and she would need to drive me back. The doc said the one at the hospital treats 5 to 6 patients every single day, so I guess there really are a LOT of people with kidney stone issues out there.

Crummy week for me. My 7 month old pup came down sick Wednesday, started throwing up and wouldn't eat or drink. Got a little better Wednesday night and ate a little, but then threw up all night and Thursday morning and wouldn't touch food or water so we took him to the vet.

He was there for about 8 hours, they ran blood work and x-rays... $1500 later nothing conclusive except dehydration, so they gave him subcutaneous fluids (looked like he had a softball on his neck :lol: ) and anti-nausea and stomach acid reducers and we brought him home to fast another 12 hours. Started feeding him a bland diet this afternoon and he's perked up thankfully. Was pretty worried about the little guy for 36 hours when he was just heaving up yellow bile, but I think he'll be fine. Maybe a stomach bug from the dog park or something weird he ate on a walk without us noticing?

Still not sure if the vet trip was necessary or if we should've waited, never an easy call with a sick pet, especially if they're not drinking.

Sorry to hear GF. :( It's hard to decide when to see the vet and when to wait something out. We deal with that all the time. With the symptoms your pup was displaying, we probably would have gone to the vet too. It's better to err on the side of caution.

If you ever need a bland diet, all we do is buy boneless chicken and a huge bag of rice. Boil the chicken until it's done, pull it apart into small pieces, make the rice, and then mix it all together. And you have to use regular long cooking rice, not Minute Rice. Also you can mix in some pumpkin too. You don't need anything fancy, just regular store house brand 100% pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) and that's good for their digestion too. We always keep some in the house.

That's really solid advice, exactly what the vet told us too. Just doing poached chicken and rice for a few days.

We use pumpkin puree and freeze it in his Kongs quite often too. Keeps the little bugger busy for a few minutes at least :lol:

ah that's right, it all comes together now :lol: the things I've had over the years, Echo Layla24, and who made that FireFace thing that we're using these days, that audient asp880 was great too...all much too big for you to bother with. I took a quick look and it looks like there's plenty of 2 channels with midi for 80-200 bucks or so, depending on how high you want to go with quality. at some point people start using those 80 dollar capacitors and the price goes through the roof, most people arent going to give a shit about that level of audiophile retardedness tho :lol:

Keeping the over 50 body fit is an art. I cycle and swim as well. Calisthenics (e.g. Convict Conditioning) is a great alternative to weights. I make sure to occasionally get 2 days in a row of deep rest.

I keep telling them to fuck off and I do it myself for $25, the cost of both filters combined bought off Amazon. And it only takes me 5 minutes instead of waiting around in an auto shop's reception area all pissed off for like 3 hours.

Starting to really feel it in my knees since I'm on the treadmill for at least 30 minutes a day (at least 60 minutes on weekends). And this is week 4 now of doing it every day. I did drag out the rowing machine this weekend and split up the time between the treadmill and now the rowing machine. Now all I need is a stationary bike and I'll have mt own gym lol.

Good day. I have been binging Snowpiercer season 1 on the TNT app on my Roku. Absolutely love the show and looking forward to season 2, but I have an issue when watching the show. First, I completely understand that ads are needed for revenue to be able to produce shows for the network. But there are A LOT of commercial breaks when watching on the app, far more it seems than just watching the show when it airs on broadcast, but even worse is that it's the SAME EXACT commercials over and over and over. I've seen that stupid Kohler shower speaker ad at least 20 times in watching 2 episodes over the weekend. It doesn't make me want to buy the item, it makes me want to gouge my eyes out every time it comes on now. AND to add insult to injury, it's shown back-to-back in EVERY commercial break. For the love of god, please explore better ways to insert advertising into the shows on your app. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

Just my personal opinion on that thing: If you dont have a ton of space/equipment already, I'd avoid this sort of ab equipment if it doesn't have a ton of other uses. Ab equipment is a dime a dozen, and from what I've read, studies tend to show using your own body weight (crunches, leg raises, bicycles, etc), or maybe a cheap ab-roller is most effective. Targeting an area of your body for weight loss is an outright myth, so if you're going for trimming down your stomach, it's more just about diet, cardio, and building muscle. Focusing on your core is still super important for avoiding injury and getting fit, but I don't personally think you need this contraption. Never seen one at a gym which tells me something. You'd be better off buying a regular adjustable (reclining and inclining) bench I think - you'll find a hundred uses for one.


One thing I really recommend if you're not sure about weights yet is a set of exercise bands. Get a few different lengths/tensions if you can, they're usually pretty cheap. They're great for avoiding injury and you can fold/step on them to make them as 'heavy'/tight or loose as you want. You can use them for shoulders, back, arms, chest, core and legs so they're super versatile.

It's 1.5 acres and one of the last available lots there right on the ocean. Absolutely stunning place to be, just outside a really cute little town. It's on septic but has city water/power/cable so it wouldn't have to be completely rustic which the wife likes.

Currently there's a mobile home on the property which is rented by a retired couple so it generates enough to pay the property taxes. There's also a nicely kept wooden path down to the beach with a little deck built near the water.

The problem is that the lot has a rider from the municipality saying you need a geotechnical report to build anything due to some landslide concerns in the area. It's on a gentle slope and covered in mature trees so I kind of think it's fine (tons of houses/cabins on either side already), but the current owner refuses to get one. Maybe they already know something I don't, or maybe they're just cheap. The area is mostly on clay per the realtor so that's concerning.

The realtor said I could pay an engineer to walk the property and give an opinion for a few hundred bucks, but the full report with soil samples is $10k.

My wife says forget it, but this lot is exceedingly rare, and the price is a fraction of developed properties in the area. It's also less than half of what the average house costs in Vancouver (we've been looking at homes but everything is stupid expensive). We could build a little cabin to enjoy for years with family/friends. I could work remotely there part-time and maybe my wife could even work in a clinic there occasionally. One day maybe we could build our dream house, or sell the lot again as the market up there is absolutely booming with the baby boomers retiring and remote work becoming so normalized.

I dono what to do. Maybe I should pay an engineer to give their opinion and at least get it off my mind if it sound potentially sketchy at all.

If it's that great a place and you are truly interested, what's the harm in getting the engineer to do a walk around? For a few hundred bucks, I'm sure that his opinion could set your mind at ease. If he thinks there's something wrong, at least then you know. But if he thinks that it's worth it, then think about moving forward. "What if" is a horrible phrase to live with. :lol:

I just found out that a close friend of the family passed away on Thursday. He worked with my Dad back in the 1970s in Philly, they became close friends, and he came down to visit at least twice a year when we moved down South back in '91. He was here for us when Dad passed back in '08 and kept in touch frequently afterwards. His daughter called earlier this evening and broke the news. He was a really good guy.

All I know now is that I actually feel a lot better now that I've been exercising. I'm less tired, more energy, and I'm sleeping better than I have in years.

My goal is 15lbs by April.Depending on how you deal with it, that should be easily doable. The only major thing I've done is started exercising every day. I do roughly 30 minutes a day on the treadmill Monday thru Thursday, and the I do at least 60 minutes on Friday thru Sunday. I really haven't even changed my eating habits all that much and I still lost 10 in about a month.
