A dude from MobilityWorks, a disability car company in Jacksonville (but the dude lives around here, go figure), dropped by at my request to show me a converted minivan. It was a Dodge Grand Caravan SE from 2010, and it was fully converted while new. Now full conversions can run from 15k-30k, but they depreciate like everything else. KBB was listing the fair used price of the Dodge @ $6400. Given that the converted stuff was 11 years old as well and used (probably multiple times), they might have been worth 4-5k (I'm being generous since they worked like a charm), so I'm thinking at most the converted Dodge from 2010 is probably worth maybe around $10-11k. This dude wanted $25K for it.

I asked him to bring something up and show me, so I was nice. I just tried to retain my aura of aloofness, even though I wanted to strangle him with his own intestines.

I hate it when people do that shit. The son of a bitch who put the engine in my mustang was like that, he would pick up some junk, work on it, then try to sell it for ridiculous money. He'd get told off by a lot of people for asking stupid ridiculous prices, but more often than not he'd find some dumb shit to pay up and walk away happy. I wish I could. The problem is other disabled people are paying these prices. The vast majority of them aren't analyzing and fighting like I do. Honestly, the converted vehicle companies like this guy works for is a boutique service. Because they can tell me to go to hell and choose not to do business with me. No matter how small the disabled population is, the company is in Jacksonville, which does have a sizable population and new disabled people are popping up every day. If I don't play ball, someone else will, they'll still make their money and I'll still be stuck.

I might be able to talk him down in price, if I give him time to think about how best to close the deal and I'm not a dick about it. Maybe he'll come down in price for me. Maybe he won't. Boutique or not, at the end of the day, he's still a car salesman, and I still have to play the game.

heh, sorry man...Service Now is a ticketing system that we use, and for some reason they recommend companies just make all kinds of custom shit instead of using things out of the box. my monitoring software has a connector so that it can do things like automatically create tickets, so I have to blast events out of that system and into SN - but my monitoring shit doesnt support writing to custom fields in tables at the moment. So I asked them please give me a standard table with all standard shit and make sure there are no custom fields that are going to fuck me up....and after waiting a hella long time, fucker goes and creates me something with all the custom shit that I know isnt going to work, then he acts like well maybe my monitoring software just doesnt have the ability to write to Service Now....

It's frickin' ridiculous. Get the right ingredients, put them together, put the oven on high (> 450° F), throw the damn thing in and let it cook, and voila! You've got your very own NY style pizza. I will admit that getting the proportions right for that classic crust can be a pain in the ass, but once you've got that down, you're golden. Just make sure you've got an oven big enough for the size you want to make, or go with a smaller pie or several smaller pies. Not everybody's got an oven with room enough for a 16". And the ingredients are cheap (which is what I forgot to mention to begin with).




Also, I specifically requested to see the doctor, not his fucking PA, and I was promised the doctor when I made the appointment. Nice to know you fuckers will try to pull a fast one on me and switch it to the PA. Had to find out from my regular doctor's receptionist. So fuck you, your appointment for today's rescheduled and if the doctor's not there on Monday and I get stuck with his PA again, I'm calling a lawyer and we'll see you in court. Also, listing the PA as a doctor when he's not a doctor is illegal and I'll be sure to take that up with you on Monday. Also, putting a brace on a broken leg isn't surgery, all you did was put a fucking brace on the leg, and frankly, I don't believe it's doing that great of a job to begin with, so fuck you, too. I'm letting my insurance company know about your duplicity.

I was indecisive and kept trying to go back and change things. They locked me out until I figured out how to resume a previous application and let it time out. Sooo... apparently the orthopedic doctor is really pleased with the way my femur is healing. It doesn't look perfect, but I guess in my case, with the osteoporosis and all, perfect is a little too much to ask for. I guess I should be happy as well. But I have to keep this infernal brace on for 6 more weeks. The wound doctor likes the way my leg wounds are healing as well, but there's no ETA on those currently. They're shrinking, but some tissue has to fill in on the one on the back of my thigh. Might take a while. Pressure sores are a royal pain in ze ass.

They picked a few of us to sit with the consultants and chat about what we're looking for. The pre-reading material gave examples of company models we could point towards. Uniliver is doing 4-day work weeks (80% hours for 100% pay), another company referenced is doing 3-days in office 2 at home, and another model they showed us has gone 'remote by default' so every employee works from home unless they need to come in for meetings.

There are some other questions they're digging into but that first model intrigues me. I've read that some companies have had success with productivity going to condensed weeks. People screw around less, work happier and more engaged, take fewer sick days, etc. Obviously there are hurdles with customer-facing roles but I think there are solutions.

Seems too good to be true though so I won't hold my breath :lol: I don't think everyone is ready to let go of the 9-5/40 hour week yet (a few of our older leaders are still stunned productivity went up measurably in the pandemic with worker at home). I was chatting to my dad and he instantly scoffed. I just said "are you absolutely, 100% certain that the traditional 5 day 40 hour work week with butts in seats at an office is the panicle of workplace productivity?" He had no good answer, and neither do I, but I'd love to give some different models a go.

Man, I went to the dentist the other day and you would think that I was entering an ebola hot zone. The door is locked, so you need to call from your vehicle to check in. Then when they are ready for you, they call you back to meet them at the door to let you in. The staff is all basically wearing hazmat suits and they take your temp once you're inside. Then, after they bring you back, they make you rinse your mouth with peroxide for 30 seconds to "disinfect" your mouth.

I don't know how long they've been members, but they said they couldn't freeze the meal kits and they had to be eaten, so they gave them to me. I ate both of them yesterday and today. They were both so ridiculously good. I'm seriously considering signing up for the service.

Yesterday, I had a sausage spinach fettucine meal that was amazing. Today I had shredded beef gyros that were loaded with meat, and Christ, was that fucking incredible!

If I could figure out how to make this stuff from scratch, I'd open a restaurant.

I don't know about their in-store stuff, they're not affiliated with any of the supermarket chains I have in my town. Nobody carries them. I imagine the frozen junk is a whole different animal. But then again, I can't stand Stouffers' salt bombs.

Yeah, it's pretty much the same as the others, except Home Chef is supposed to be for people who love meat. There's like 25 other meal delivery services down here, and a few are vegetarian based. Some claim to be meal delivery services, but are really just online grocery stores that have a few prepackaged meals available for purchase. Chef's Plate is exclusive to Canada but it's owned by Hello Fresh. Good Food is Canadian as well. Don't know who owns them. Y'all also have one called 'Cook It', but I couldn't tell you anything about them.

Damn, the fucking pantry moths are back! Last summer we had a ton of them, I was killing a few a day all over the house. Thought I found the source in the vacuum bag of a vacuum that was in a back closet which we hadn't used in a while last year. Tossed that entire vacuum out and cleaned the place absolutely top to bottom and they disappeared for months, but they're suddenly back again. Killed a couple this week. We keep a pretty clean place as it is, but I guess I'll have to completely rip apart the house cleaning everywhere I can think of again. What a pain.

Seems like it used to be that you'd search for something and see regular retail brands that you recognized whether it was for shirts or lightbulbs. Now it feels like the challenge is to find anything that isn't some bizarre Chinese knock-off brand with a fake American-sounding brand name and a description full of typos. I know that shit has been on there forever but I swear it's worse than ever now...

Maybe it's not quite as bad here as you are describing, but it's getting there. The site is getting filled with more and more cheap Chinese crap. You really need to watch out when you are searching for stuff. I'm not saying all the Chinese stuff you find is just crap, but I completely avoid any of the stuff where the listing is full of spelling/grammar mistakes where they tried to obviously use some translation program. And also if the reviews ALL seem shady, that's another red flag for me.
