We got our property tax value assessment earlier this year and the county raised our assessed property value something like $50K (I don't remember the exact amount), so we decided to fight it.

Well today we got the decision back from the county....and we won the appeal :shock:

We're starting to lose seasonal staff at work due to school and expiring Visas. Including ALL the Americans that were running the golf cart business and one that was assistant managing. So guess who has to do the jobs of 4 staff on top of his own?

Back to 14+ hour days I guess.....

Fast forward 9 years and 2 houses on our block just sold in the last 45 days and both went for over listed asking price and both sales were for more than $500K for similar homes. It's ridiculous. There's no way these houses are REALLY worth more than a half million dollars.

That's just it, if you want to sell, sure, you get a good price for your home, but the house you end up wanting is now selling at $700K or $800K so you aren't really making any gain, you're in the same amount of debt owed, possibly going into more debt depending on the house you end up buying.

I had a nice little stint here from mid June to mid Aug where we were fully staffed and had everyone (mostly) trained up. Both myself and the on site manager got to have a little flexibility in our schedules as long as we were available by phone to problem solve.

Let me share the fruits of my research:

I have a monitor with usb-C hub built in. Everything is powered through a single AC cable to the monitor and connected via a single USB-c from monitor to laptop (which also carries power).

I have the option to plug USB peripherals into the monitor as well.

Recommend 27 inch monitor as the sweet spot both for price and size.

I have a 4k (2160p) monitor (Dell U2720Q) because I am a UHD 4k movie junky but for all else 1440p monitor is plenty and really quite affordable.

My monster rig from 2009 (i7 920) still runs like a champ. I was considering upgrading it, but then Biden got elected (gun concerns), I wanted to start recording some stuff (guitar concerns), and I wanted to take a stab at the stock market (dreams of being a millionaire). I've been using my AMD Dell (2013) a lot lately, and that still runs awesome.

If you can exist fine with your current setup for a while longer and you don't have everything you want in the firearms department, you may want to start hunting down what it is that you're after, because the Biden Administration's really trying to find a way to take away our guns in a way that can't be challenged as an infringement of the Second Amendment. 9mm is kinda available, but it's been over priced ever since Covid started. I say kinda available because I can't get it at the normal places I buy ammo from, but it seems to be all over the place on Ammo Seek. I'm not entirely certain about the "stores" selling it. I'm stocked with 9mm, in both FMJ and hollow points, and have been for a while. I was waiting for the prices to come back down before adding to what I already have (around 10000 rounds). I can tell you that I have purchased some ammo from freedom munitions, their own stuff, and I haven't had a single bad round, but again prices are ridiculous. I picked up some 308 win from them a while back. I haven't picked up any of their 9mm, but I know it's available and it is their own stuff, both new and remanufactured for a dollar less than new.

I don't have a subcompact, my smallest is my S&W M&P9c which is a strict compact. I hear people like the newer M&P 9 Shield 2.0. I do have a micro, but it's an antique in 25acp/6mm (circa 1920s), so I never shoot it. I really can't help you in the micro department, although you could look smaller than 9mm (380 acp, 32 acp, etc). Smaller rounds = smaller kick. Maybe Grif can lead you down the right path if he's so inclined. I know people love the Sig P365. I haven't heard a single bad thing about it, but I haven't fired it myself.

My "Good" laptop is an aging Toshiba 17" Core I7,1080p display, dual SSD/HDD drives, backlit keyboard W10 16gb ram. Dated 2014? Still runs fast and great.

Tbh, id rather work the way I do than the 50-60hrs a week, every week that Lance does. At least I only work 2 weeks in a row, then off for 2.
That said, I've been offered a job as assistant manager at a gas plant about a hour from the house. I'd be home every night (that may or may not be a good thing for the wifey) most weekends off, and very nice starting pay scale. I'm thinking hard about it. I don't really like riding a desk, but I'm getting a bit old to be running around in the field now. Its about time for a retirement job.

They're more for deep cycle, it would probably shorten the life of a starting battery.
If the car is not driven often you would be better off just starting it a few times a month to charge the battery and cycle the fluids in the engine.

I've wondered about those. On my car(and truck) there no power to the aux ports unless ignition key is on. This tells me there's a relay between ports and battery. If there's no connection to battery, the charger can not work.

I chair a committee that organizes seminars for our industry. We're organizing next year's big annual conference. Two of my 8 committee members got into a heated debate about having more diverse presenters next year. One lady said we had almost entirely old white men last year, while the other was arguing that we don't find presenters based on how they look but rather their qualification (obviously they said a lot more than that, but I can't be bothered to type it all out).

I felt totally unequipped and unprepared to moderate that debate, holy shit that was awkward.

In this day and age, I was surprised and caught off guard that one of my committee members got so hot and bothered and start ranting to a room (full of mostly women) when it was suggested that we consider the diversity of our presenters this year, particularity when our audience feedback already called it out last year.

I got what he was saying... it's dismissive to say that the presenters last year were 'just a bunch of old white men' as one of the other members put it. These were highly qualified individuals and the best people we could find... But in a very small industry locally like mine, I certainly wouldn't want to be known as the guy who's loudly outspoken when someone suggests we take our member feedback into consideration when finding presenters for this year's conference...
