I chair a committee that organizes seminars for our industry. We're organizing next year's big annual conference. Two of my 8 committee members got into a heated debate about having more diverse presenters next year. One lady said we had almost entirely old white men last year, while the other was arguing that we don't find presenters based on how they look but rather their qualification (obviously they said a lot more than that, but I can't be bothered to type it all out).

I felt totally unequipped and unprepared to moderate that debate, holy shit that was awkward.

Now today they just cancelled all ferry trips to the island. That means that 60% of our remaining staff won't make it to work today and it's gonna be a shit show with guests that are supposed to check out and guests that were supposed to check in.

Our property manager is on vacation, the housekeeping manager, assistant manager, 5 housekeepers, one general staff and two grounds crew won't make it over today. This leaves me with 5 staff (3 foreign kids) for 100-ish properties for the day.

I'm starting month 10 of keeping up with exercising. I don't do it every day like I was at first, but it's 5 to 6 days a week for between 35 and 45 minutes per session. I'm hovering between 35 and 40 total pounds lost. I'm at the point now I think that unless I either exercise substantially more or make even more changes to my diet that I probably won't lose much more weight, if any.

I would kinda like to lose maybe 10 more pounds, but I dunno how much I want to change my diet. I'm pretty happy that I was able to lose as much as I did, it was completely unhealthy and I let it go for too long and I do feel better generally.

Props to my wife for nagging me to take better care of myself because of it wasn't for her, I most likely wouldn't have done any of it (exercise and regular doctor visits).

I need to do that. The wife wants the same.It's really not as bad or as hard as some people will lead you to believe. I didn't really change my diet all that much. Maybe cut back on sweets a bit and I pretty much stopped drinking soda other that the odd one here or there. All I did to lose the weight was be more active. We already had a treadmill, so that made it easy. I just made sure to exercise every day. Once you get into a routine, it's not that bad. I just listen to a podcast while I'm on the treadmill and before you know it, the time is done.

Plus with the treadmill, using the elevation part of it, you can make the workout a bit more strenuous whenever you want compared to if you were just outside for a walk or jog. Usually my workout is at 3.5 mph with an incline of 4.5 and after 35 minutes of that, I've worked up a really good sweat. I usually get in between 2 and 2-1/4 miles each day.

The new laptop I bought for "work" just popped up an icon that says it's ready for the W11 upgrade. I guess I'd better do some research before letting it do it. At the very least maybe I can delay it til they get to SP1 that fixes most of the issues.

Minor emergency at the homestead today. Seems my oldest dog (15yo lab, who honestly doesn't have too long left) was covered in bugs, like hundreds of them. Seems the bugs are a type of mites. Got the dip for mites, soaked all three dogs, got some pet friendly indoor spray for furniture, and powder for the carpets, and first round done. Mind you, the wife is doing all this while I'm at work. Get home, and wife wants to put the 3 dogs out in the studio for a night or two until all the treatments are done. No problem, went out and moved the amps, brougt guitars inside main house, and put up my pedals. Here's the emergency. I couldn't find my 2 newest pedals: a Keely modded Boss Blues Driver a friend gave me,and TC Electric Mimiq mini I bought for S&G. 3 beers later after taking all my shit out of truck, and the bedroom looks like a tornado blew threw, I found them. Seems the wife, not knowing what they were, moved them from my dresser where put them to a box in my closet. Fml.

I tried to find a review for 'best blow dryer under $50' and there are dozens of blogs with hundreds of options and different opinions.

Did you guys know that different hair dryers are better for different types of hair? Did you know they come in varying degrees of wattage and power levels? Different attachments and cord lengths to consider???

I only took a covid test once and that was because I had to before my kidney stone procedure at the hospital earlier this year. I think it completely depends on who's giving the test as to the experience of it. I heard horror stories about how it feels like they're jabbing your brain when they do it. But I had mine done at the hospital by a real nurse and not some volunteer and it really wasn't all that bad. I was expecting way worse.

Went to the Van Gogh Immersive Exhibit over the weekend. Wife bought the tix when it was announced like almost a year ago. It was really cool and definitely different. They did a great job animating the artwork. If you like art shows and it comes to your city, it's definitely worth seeing IMHO.

What a beast of a day. Almost got to the shop this morning, got called out to a rig about 30 mins from my house. Turned around and 2 hrs later at the rig. Took an hour to fix and test all equipment. Traveled 2hrs back to the shop. Ordered some parts. Got a call that my work truck is ready to be picked up from dealership ( in for warranty repairs). Left the shop, took 1.5hrs to got 20 miles across Houston to get said parts. Left that place, came across 2 accidents in 10 miles, so another hour. Then, while sitting at a red light, got rear ended by two Hispanics in a clapped out Honda. Destroyed the front of their car. They took off, so hit and run. Bumper on my work truck (3/4 tone Chevy with a heavy duty steel service body bed and bumper). Call police and fleet man to report accident, then found out the bed mounts were broken, so can't drive truck. Had to deal with fleet management again. Took an hour for tow truck to arrive, which worked out well as thats about the same time it took my wife to drive the 30 or so miles to come pick me up. Finally got home. 17hrs today. At least I'm fine. Gonna have to drive my personal truck tomorrow to the rig close to home, then hope work can figure out what they're gonna do because we have no spare trucks.

Well, great start to my day. Came to our technical center to do some programming an HMI and a remote system for some equipment. Every thing is fine until I turned on the 1000amp feeder breaker to the equipment. Lost partial power to the whole tech center. Mind you, I've had this powered up several times previously. I checked the feed into our main 4000 amp breaker, and I'm missing the "B" phase (480v 3 phase service). Now I get to wait for the power company to show up. Yay. At least some of the receptacles are working, so I'll have to remove the HMI and PLC from equipment and fab up a power cord to power it up.

We have a Peloton and aside from just the bike component, there are a ton of other types of classes you can follow with professional instructors including yoga and stretching. There are other subscription services that offer the same, or just free classes on youtube too.

I really like doing yoga once or twice a week. Some classes are really difficult and a great workout, others are more about staying flexible and stretching and just good for your mind (I stay away from the fluffy yoga styles that are more meditation, not my style). I'm sure it's reducing tweaks and injuries when I do play golf, bike and play hockey and it's good for the body long term. Can't recommend it enough.

Fun to do with the wife/family too, gets everyone laughing when you're holding some simple looking pose but everyone is dying :lol:

I got Pfizer. The first shot was no big deal. Injection point was sore for about a day, give or take. It was the second dose that was the worse one. About 12 hours after the second dose, I started to feel like I had the flu. For me, it was bad for about 6 or 7 hours and then it went away, but I know some people have had the flu-like symptoms last longer.

We have a Peloton and aside from just the bike component, there are a ton of other types of classes you can follow with professional instructors including yoga and stretching. There are other subscription services that offer the same, or just free classes on youtube too.

I really like doing yoga once or twice a week. Some classes are really difficult and a great workout, others are more about staying flexible and stretching and just good for your mind (I stay away from the fluffy yoga styles that are more meditation, not my style). I'm sure it's reducing tweaks and injuries when I do play golf, bike and play hockey and it's good for the body long term. Can't recommend it enough.

Fun to do with the wife/family too, gets everyone laughing when you're holding some simple looking pose but everyone is dying :lol:

Thinking about starting to practice tai chi or maybe yoga. Theres no classes or studios for either in my town, so it'd have to be online or DVD type. I'm leaning more towards tai chi, because I fondly remember doing katas when I was in the AF. Any of yall into either?

Walking is a great standby warm up and exercise.

Yoga is hard to do cold. I do hours a day sometimes and still have to warm up.

Tai Chi where they break it up into modular little blocks/exercises would probably be best. The slow, strict one may drive you nuts.

I don't know what "fixed" internet is but Tmobile sends you a little box with a SIM card in it, 4g/5g in, wifi out. unlimited data no taxes or fees for a flat $50/month. Basically a hotspot but you can't take it anywhere else.

I had a quick check: $99/mth, still in beta, not available in my area. No info on data limits, if any. After searching high and low, my only option are satellite or fixed wireless (cellular networks). Of the fixed, 2 choices: AT&T with 350gb data limit, plus overages,or Skynet with no data limits. Both speeds are 25mbs dl, with ATT&T $60/mth, Skynet $95/mth. Skynet says the require a 50ft tower which is $3200 installed. That can be spread out monthly. At&T does say anything about a tower, and my mobile is AT&T and streaming via it works fine in home. Going to check into the satellite options again.

I guess that they plan on launching a lot more satellites to help with everything, but it's the customer service itself that I've read the most complaints about.
