My uncle who I'm very close with had a stroke tonight. He's only 69 and in good shape but he is type 1 diabetic so he's obviously higher risk at his age for all sorts of problems. My aunt noticed the signs immediately and got him to the hospital very quickly. They gave him some clot busting agents and his CT scan apparently didn't show anything so no large clots, but he's not able to speak right now. The doctor said they expect he'll be fine and his speech should return in a day or two, but definitely scary.

When I had it, I was fairly sick for about 3 days, the rest of the time was just the stupid cough and congestion that took awhile to go away. Took about 2-ish weeks for the final symptoms to finally clear up completely.

Well, missing Pepper was hard on the wife, and at first she wanted no part of getting another dog, and then over the last few days she had changed her mind and had her heart set on getting another dog. It really doesn't bother me either way, I would have been happy waiting or I would have been fine with getting another dog. I just want her to be happy. So, she had found some Great Danes on a FB group at a breeder where her friends got a dog from. Great breeders and great reputation, so no issues there. The puppies they had were being 'discounted' because they were getting older, so that's where we went yesterday. She doesn't have a name yet, but she's almost 4 months old, so she's already started growing and is pretty decent sized. I would guess she's probably between 40 and 50 lbs from picking her up to get her in the car. Only got one pic so far, but hopefully we'll have more to share.

Lance you've had dogs before so I'm sure you know this, but we spent a ton of energy training 'leave it' with positive reinforcement (i.e. tempt puppy with something like a sock or hat, then reward for 'leave it', as well as just diverting them to things they can chew). Yeah, we use Leave It and Drop It and other commands, but we've had limited time to work with her so far. Not to mention the fact that when there's 3 other dogs in the house that want in on everything, it can be chaos around the house. Hopefully when the yard melts a bit more we can work with her alone outside.

Not getting things on time for us is usually the exception rather than the rule. I think sometimes the issue is staffing/supply chain problems, but still for the most part, we haven't had any issues with Prime deliveries showing up on time. I think Amazon is having the same issue as everyone else, issues with keeping things in stock and having enough employees to staff warehouses and delivery vans.

It took a lot of digging, but I did find a source that said the league is claiming that travel is too expensive for a brand new league with no revenue. All they care right now is about being on TV (both FOX and NBC are carrying the games) and getting the gamblers interested in gambling on more football. I know where it's from. It's a medical bill. It's for $56.37. I have an insurance EOB for it. I was waiting for an actual bill to arrive, but it never came. All of a sudden, I get a debt collection notice for it. I don't get it. How do you get a debt collection agency to collect on a bill you never sent out to the patient? It's not like I was ever delinquent on previous bills. I always pay my bills.

PROTIP: If you get a debt collector on a medical bill, ask a simple question. "How did you get a medical bill with my social security number? That's a HIPAA violation". The likely outcome is it goes away immediately. They don't want a savvy lawsuit to shut them down.

Years ago I went to one of those Urgicare places for a sinus infection (My regular doc was closed) After dealing with a handful of people the doc finally comes in and says he's going to prescribe me Penicillin. I tell him I have a long history of sinus infections and Bronchitis and that Penicillin no longer works for me nor does Amoxicillin. Instead of giving me something else he tells me to try it and if I'm not getting better in 5 days to call in and he will write something else. Before I can continue to argue with him he walks out of the room. So I walked out of the room and the building.

Needless to say, after 6 days I was much worse, so I called. The girl says you'll have to come in for another appt and pay another 125 bucks because they don't do that over the phone. Of course I pretty much told her to fuck off. Then I called my regular doc who called in a script to Walgreens, no charge.

Anyway.... I start getting bills from Urgicares collection agency over not paying the bill. Ignored them. Finally months later they call. Asked me if I was gonna pay the bill, I said nope. "Why should I pay a bill for something I told the doc was not going to help and didn't work? If you take your car in for an oil change and they balance the tires instead would you pay?"

Never heard another peep.

Went to the eye doctor on Friday. Just the annual check-up. Everything was good, my prescription for my glasses changed slightly and since it's been 4 years since I got my last pair, I figured I should finally get another pair. Even though the script on my glasses has changed in the last 4 years, my old pair has still been fine. I really only need them to read small print and to better focus when reading. Staring at drawings and paperwork at work all day, I definitely need them for that. So I go through, find a pair of frames I like and she goes through all the "add ons" (polycarb lens material, blue light blocking coating, anti-scratch, etc.) and even after what my insurance covers, it was still $517 for the new pair (it would have been just under $1000 without insurance). Ridiculous how much shit costs now. The biggest cost was actually the polycarb lenses, that was $475 (pre-insurance) all by itself.
