The only good thing is that one of my credit cards has a special rate for medical charges over $499....6 months zero interest. And, even if you don't get it paid in the 6 months, there's no residual interest built up. It only starts on what's left on the balance owed after the promotional period.

Went to the eye doctor on Friday. Just the annual check-up. Everything was good, my prescription for my glasses changed slightly and since it's been 4 years since I got my last pair, I figured I should finally get another pair. Even though the script on my glasses has changed in the last 4 years, my old pair has still been fine. I really only need them to read small print and to better focus when reading. Staring at drawings and paperwork at work all day, I definitely need them for that. So I go through, find a pair of frames I like and she goes through all the "add ons" (polycarb lens material, blue light blocking coating, anti-scratch, etc.) and even after what my insurance covers, it was still $517 for the new pair (it would have been just under $1000 without insurance). Ridiculous how much shit costs now. The biggest cost was actually the polycarb lenses, that was $475 (pre-insurance) all by itself.

Chatted to me Ukrainian coworkers for the first time since the war broke out today. They're a married couple who both work for us, probably about 27-28 years old, super cool, big back country skiers and adventurers, very involved in charity and the community, just all around wholesome people.

Anyhow, they've been here about 3-4 years but both sets of their parents and some siblings are still near Kiev about 80km south of the city. They're still in contact but worried sick. So now my account is in default by 4k and they refuse to release the funds, and the other company is owned by a scammer who I doubt will bring the accounts current, so now I have to get a lawyer :roll: and report it to the Department of Labor

They owe my just over 30k, but I found out the entire pool for the company is almost a million. So nobody can get their funds until they make it current. Which it doesn't sound like they can/will. The owner is ripping off everyone he is in contact with its sounds like since about Sept, including stealing his fathers identity and taking out loans.

Even if you are doing a 1040 or 1040A there is no need to have an accountant do it or pay someone like H&R Block to do it. The online sites walk you through every single step.

We've got a hotel with a nice pool booked, going to drag my wife to a few museums cus I'm a nerd, and she'll book some good restaurants. Gotta leave work early today. Taking the wife to the hospital for her knee surgery. She's had knee issues for awhile and finally getting it taken care of. The MRI was inconclusive as to the damage, so it could be something as simple as just getting her knee scoped all the way to a full ACL reconstruction, they won't know until they get in there.

A very long day. Had to have her at the surgery center by 11 for a surgery scheduled at 1. We got there about 10:45 and it wasn't until about 11:30 that they took her back to start the prep. About a half hour-ish later I was allowed back to sit with her. Nurses and doctors came in explaining everything and explaining what was going to happen. Pretty soon it's just after one and her surgeon comes in to tell us that the surgeon using the OR at the time is still in there and it's probably going to be at least an hour late getting the wife in. So about 1:30 I left to go run some errands, go to the pharmacy to pick up her scripts, get some miscellaneous stuff she'll need at home, etc. Got home, ate, showered and tried to get the place ready. Got a call about 4:15 and they said they were getting ready to close and then move her to recovery. Got back to the surgery center about 4:45 and was waiting in the lobby for them to come and get me. The surgeon came out not long after I had gotten there and explained everything and said he was extremely happy with the way the surgery went. It was worse than they thought it was going to be, but he said he was able to get everything fixed up and her knees should be as good as new when she heals.

Wasn't until about 5:30 that they came and got me and brought me back to see her. She was in a LOT of pain and they were worried because her heart rate was pretty high and they wanted to get it down before they discharged her. So we were there until about 7 before she could leave and come home. It was quite a challenge getting her in the house and upstairs to the bedroom with the huge honking brace she was wearing and the crutches. Just before we got her into bed, she did slip and come down on her leg she had surgery on and she was in a lot of pain from that again. Got her situated though after a bit, unload the car, get her meds and some food and drink upstairs for her and soon it was after 8:30 PM. Finally got myself into bed about 9:15-ish.

Have to get her back to the surgery center this afternoon to talk to the surgeon again and check how she's doing and go over everything with her. It's going to be a challenge getting her downstairs and to the car this afternoon. And it sounds like she's going to be in some pretty serious pain for a few days.

She must have been really tore up, They haver gotten so good at many knee surgeries that often they wont release you until you walk on it after waking up.

Thanks, I try. She was actually doing quite a bit better yesterday, so I'm hoping that the recovery will move along faster rather than slower. She's already sick of being confined to the bedroom and away from the dogs and it had barely been 24 hours at the time :lol:

Well, this is damn peculiar. I had a medical bill that was due on April 2nd. I knew it was there, I got notification of it's existence via email. I have the insurance EOB for it. I figured, "What the hell. Let me go pay it." I log into the account, and it's nowhere to be found. I call the help line and the woman I'm talking to is looking for it. She says billing deleted it. She can see the EOB, and she can see that the actual medical group is saying that it's there, but it's just not there anymore. It disappeared and she can't tell me why. I don't like this. Not. One. Bit.

Coworker of mine died. She was only about 40, felt ill, collapsed the next day and paramedics and her husbands couldn't revive her despite CPR. They think it was a heart attack. Such a sweet girl, worked with her for 9 years and shared a cubicle with her for the first few years of my career, even went to her wedding in 2019 and got to meet her family who were super kind people. Just a bundle of energy and life, always had the lunchroom laughing being a weird little character.

This is also right on the back of finding out my boss' boss has late stage cancer only about a year before retiring which is obviously just incredibly sad and my team has taken in hard.

Fucking sucks, life is too short and unpredictable sometimes. Makes you question all these hours of your life you spend sitting at a desk.

So after almost giving up on the PC last week, it magically booted windows. Seemed to be running fine all day, Shut it down before I left for work for the week. Got home yesterday and tried to turn it on. First try, it posted to the brand screen then went into dos? froze there. Tried again and it cleared bios and windows icon loaded and froze. I walked away. A couple hours later I noticed it had an option to "start normally" or "repair". I clicked repair, and it seemed to lock up again. Walked away for an hour and came back to an option for system restore. (thought I had that turned off) Tried that, walked away and came back later it was up and running again.

So bottom line is it's on life support, don't know if it's a BIOS issue, motherboard issue or my 10YO SSD is starting to crap out?

I grabbed an old APC battery backup from work and ordered a new battery for it to see if I can keep the PC from shutting down for now.

Still haven't ruled out a new PC. Saw Microcenter has a AMD Ryzen 7 5700/8core/16thread/ 16GIG ram/ 1TB ssd rig for $850. Only issue is apparently there's no room in the tower for a 3.5" drive?? Said there can be space for two additional SSD drives only.

Well, Thor had another seizure over the weekend, around midnight Saturday night. That's 4 in 19 days now for the poor guy. Our vet has recommended a neurologist to talk to, which we will, but we're thinking we are getting near the end with Thor. We aren't going to put him through all kinds of tests and treatments just to try and get a little more time out of him. We want him to have a good quality of life and these seizures are taking a huge toll on him and we don't want him to live like this. And all this is after the vet upped the dosage on his medication twice since the seizures started back up.

It's going to be even harder though if we have to make that awful and hard decision because we just lost Pepper not that long ago. It all really sucks. :(

Well, Thor had another seizure over the weekend, around midnight Saturday night. That's 4 in 19 days now for the poor guy. Our vet has recommended a neurologist to talk to, which we will, but we're thinking we are getting near the end with Thor. We have an appointment on Friday with a neurologist for Thor to see what we can do. As much as you would like to say that money is no object with your pets, this consultation will probably dictate which way we are going to have to go with Thor. Whether there will be reasonably priced treatment that has a high probability that it will help, or if we're gonna have to say goodbye. We just don't want to prolong Thor's life if he isn't going to have a high quality of life going forward. These seizures seem to be taking more and more out of him every time.

Loading up truck and daughters car in am. Moving her to San Antonio area to live with my sister in law. SIL is recently divorced, and going through massive empty nest syndrome. ( both of her children are grown and gone) and lives in a 3200sgft 2 story alone. Job opportunities for daughter are massively better in that area. Hope it works out well. Best part is at this point, I dont have to give up my studio since daughter is moving out. Wife and daughter had plans to move daughter into studio (14x26' fully finished Morgan building)
