Went down to Seattle over the weekend with two other couples, went tailgating and to the Washington Huskies game. What a fucking riot, that was too much fun. I'm hurting today though :lol: But man, tailgating culture is the bomb, I want to do it more now.

Good god, a former NHL'er, Adam Johnson died in an EIHL game tonight when a skate came up and slashed his throat... that wasn't a video I needed to come across my fed. Terrifying, his poor family. They tried CPR and evacuated the arena but it sounds like he didn't make it.

What a shitty start to the day this morning. It was cold, we had snow over the weekend, so this morning it was 14° and my windshield was frosted over so I had to scrape it. So I did what I normally do, start the truck, turn on the defroster, and then grab the scraper. I closed the door to my truck, but not all the way, just the first "click" so that it wouldn't swing open. So I get the windshield scraped and go to get back in my truck and couldn't get the door open. The handle would lift up, but the latch wouldn't open. Tried the passenger side and that door was locked. :wha: I didn't lock the door when I got out, so I have no fucking idea what happened. And of course because the truck is running, my house key is in the truck too. :| Had to use the keypad and go in through the garage, waking all the dogs up in the process, and find my old extra key fob. Get all the dogs to lie back down and go out and unlock my truck.
Sure is fucking Monday. Still have no idea how my door locked on me. Never happened before and I have done the same exact thing 100's of times since owning this particular truck.

Update on why the site has been down:
There was emergency maintenance going on at the data center where the servers are that the site is hosted on. They didn't disclose what the issue was nor did they know how long it would take. Looks like it might be fixed now.

The difference in experience between using youtube on PC with a good ad blocker installed, and using it on phone, is absolutely wild. I don't know how anyone uses YT without ad block anymore... the ads are INSANE. Multiple 30 seconds ads for a 2 minute video? Gtfo.

Adblock for samsung internet. I use it on my tablet too. It doesn't help much with redirects but it does remove maybe 90% of ads. Iirc I downloaded it at the Samsung ap store.

She just had a biopsy of a mass on her pancreas done, but they wouldn't tell her the results unless she went in. Sup all! Back from two weeks in Miami/Florida Keys - 3 days for work and 10 for pleasure (wife flew down and joined after my conference since I got to fly on the company dime anyways).
I liked Miami a lot more than I thought I would. Miami beach is fun, the beaches are beautiful, great food and nice hotels. The Keys were a blast too, wife and I rented a really nice place that was a detached bungalow in Key Largo and just relaxed. We did get caught in a 1-day wild wild storm that nearly reached Cat-1 wind speeds last Thursday. I've never seen sustained rain like that for 24 hours, blew my mind even coming from Raincouver - I read on twitter it was 14" in 24 hours which is absurd. Around 2am the little bungalow we rented sounded like it would blow away and my wife was legitimately scared. We even had a 15 minute tornado warning but there really wasn't anywhere to hide :lol:
Other than that, super great trip. Back at it with a busy few weeks of work coming up. Hope everyone's doing well!
I was thinking last night, and I'd like my time here this time around to be more smooth, so I will skip "serious" subjects or outcomes & probabilities thereof. I like you guys and generally consider you my friends and getting along with you guys means a lot more to me than showing you all the ways I'm right about the shit I post about ;) I mean, I pretty much dont talk to my two best friends about this shit either, cuz I know they really just dont give a fuck, although we all did have conversations about the ronas for sure (my other best friend is as deep or deeper, so we can go any depth of these topics :lol: ) So perhaps a truce, with those of you who enjoyed poking at my beliefs - dont poke at mine and I wont poke at yours :grouphug: It was tough with stuff like ronas & the experimentation because man, I just dont want to see yas get hurt. Which was why I said to be careful cuz its coming again, my schizo leaves even said so :lol:
But I enjoy memes and laughing and hockey talk, so the world, fuckin whatever. It means something to me to be on good terms with you guys, I apologize for trying to helps yas out a little too hard.

Crazy moment at the grocery store tonight!
Was heading to my folks' place for dinner and there was an accident on the highway, so we stopped at a random grocery store we don't normally visit to grab a couple things and wait out traffic. My wife and I split up to grab our stuff. I turn the corner on the meat aisle and see a heavy set, older store employee collapse. I called my wife's phone not knowing where she was in the store and was like "I think maybe you should run down to the meat aisle"
She runs down and her and a nurse who also happened to be right there immediately see the guy has no pulse and start doing chest compressions. Someone ran and grabbed an AED machine while we called 911. My wife and the nurse traded off doing compressions and running the AED machine, cut the dude's shirt off. My wife was a yard sale, kicked her slip on shoes and jacket off and was going ham pumping on this dude and taking charge of the scene. I mean, I knew she was a doctor obviously, but I'd never seen her in action like that - in hindsight it's impressive but at the time it was just kinda horrifying. The poor guy's ribs were clearly jellified by the compressions (which I understand means you're doing it right), he'd pissed himself, and the store employees were all crying because it looked like their coworker was dead. The nurse wanted to stop compressions because the guy was making some horrific noises but my wife knew better, apparently that doesn't mean you should stop, and so they kept going as they still could find no pulse. Just some real hardcore shit to witness as I stood there literally holding her purse.
Finally after about 10 minutes the fire department and paramedics showed up. The Fire guys were kind of big dicking my wife and nurse and shooed them away at that point (which is fair I guess, they're the real front line experts with this stuff). So my wife was kinda like "hmm, I'm used to running codes but they don't need me anymore so I guess we' just pay for our milk and bread and leave? This feels weird."
There's no way to know the outcome but he had a weak pulse when Fire took over so hopefully the man is alright.
It's not about me obviously, but it sure got my adrenaline PUMPING even just being a bystander, never seen that in real life before and it's not a pretty sight. We both needed a beer once we got to my parent's place :lol:
I guess if there's any moral to this story, we should all take a CPR class once in a while.

my buddy noticed that Shadow Hills was offering an insane deal on their mastering compressor, normally its like $11k but its on sale for like 8600 right now :lol:
he and I are done with our days of running a studio, but we have another friend who is hellbent on it...will be interesting to see if he's that gung ho since my buddy said he'll let him use the N board if he buys a shadow hills :lol:
speaking of which, I never built those lunchboxes so that each eq/comp can just go direct into the DAW :lol: but if this all happens then it will be an absolute must and I'll have to get back on it, just need to figure out what transformer is proper to place off the back side of the modules....that technical douche had no good information for me when I consulted him, just said I dont need 36db of gain from that channel amp and made it like nothing else was required, then I see a month later he comments about someone making one and notes he used the right transformer off the back end. smh.

There was a restructure at work this week. About 40 people let go (we had about 600 before so this is fairly huge). I kind of expected it was coming but didn't really know much so Monday was chaos when it went down. Sucks to see right before the holidays. Three of them were in our office including the manager who hired me 11 years ago, the Director/head of the region, and another employee. Not fun, it actually fucking sucks, but our results have been bad, and we're going in a new direction and that's just life in the business world I guess. On the plus side, we're very generous with our packages and support for these people.
On the plus side... they're making me head of the region now. Not how I'd ever have wanted it to go down but it's a huge opportunity and exciting challenge. Haven't got all the details yet but should be effective early December.

one of the reasons I shied away from going into business for myself, I see almost every single one working insane hours and not having enough help so that they can have a normal work schedule/load. but also often this is because if you want a job done right, you have to do it yourself.

Me and the wife were planning a vacation last year, we were going to go to either Iceland or Finland, but we needed to get passports. First, it was hard finding a Post Office close that had appointments for Passport renewal/ordering, but we found one that had an appointment about 3 weeks out. It would have been cutting it close, but we should have gotten our Passports back from the State Dept. in plenty of time for the trip. So we get all the forms and stuff and go to the Post Office. I have an expired passport, so I had no issues with my renewal application. When the clerk wen to process the wife's, there was an issue with her birth certificate, it was like a "short form" or something and wasn't good for a passport application. :| So, she had to order a new one from the state she was born in (not here in Colorado). That's where the vacation plans ended. It took 6 fucking months for her to get her replacement birth certificate. Absolutely ridiculous that it took that long. But because of the delay, it shot clear past when we were planning on going.
So thanks to that, the trip was canceled and put on an indefinite hold. Since then we've spent money on other things (got the house painted this past summer which it desperately needed) and with inflation and the cost of everything going up, we basically had to dip into what we were saving for vacation to take care of shit. Plus we've added two new rescue dogs to the family since then and that will make it hard to go somewhere unless we can get someone to watch all the dogs (since we have 4 again now). So who knows now when we will get to go.

I feel remiss because you share so well. I'll share a little then. I'm now in Germany and having a bit of a stint until the new year. I provide counselling in English for foreign workers whose second language is mostly English. My German is a distance second language and German is usually their distant third. So we're a great match and I guess that's why I get this gig. It is in car production Zentral for Germany and there's lots of demand for English speaking councillors esp. psychologists so it pays very well. So that's that ( the boring bit).
However the best part is I'm blessed being able to stay with a community of friends in a nearby town. I can catch the train in but I've been enjoying the cycling commutes and trying to continue into the cold and now snowy weather. it's a bit of a blast actually and I'm learning about cold hands and cold feet and cold face. Unusual for an Australian :)

lol, so is this a matter of its truly a quiet time for people, or are people avoiding posting because I'm here? I hope its not the latter. That's honestly one thing I like about the chans is that there's no baggage carry-over from one thread to the next, each post pretty much has to stand of its own merit so there's no possibility to be already ready to fire off at a given person because of something he said in another thread. Its a fine balance other places trying to discuss serious potentially life altering events happening on a global scale especially when it winds up sorta overshadowing the main reason you're there to begin with. As a life-long ham and cheese enthusiast who could eat that for lunch the rest of my life, may I make some suggestions?
- Butter, but it needs some sour so pickles need to be added IMO
- Sriracha mayo
- Oil and vinegar, but needs lettuce as you'll lose crunch on the bread if you don't add a crunchy veggie
- Load up on veg and use hummus as the spread, if you like hummus
- This may be torture for some, but if you grill it, it's a grilled ham & cheese and therefore ketchup is acceptable. If it's not grilled, ketchup is punishable by death.

So, I've gotta go splooge in a jar....
TMI here, but my wife and I have been trying for a year. Right after she stopped birth control, she got pregnant right away and it seemed too easy. We were super excited... but that pregnancy only lasted a few weeks, and since then we've had no luck. I'm mostly fine with it, I sort of have a "Jesus Take the Wheel" approach where if it happens, it happens, and we'll be fine even if we can't have kids just being fun aunt and uncle who have spare cash... but my wife is frustrated waiting, so we've started doing some tests. So now I've got to go to some sterile lab and jizz in some bathroom :lol: I'm truly horrified about this but owe it to my wife.
Anyone ever had to rub one out in a lab? I'm seriously not looking forward to this.

Nope, never had to. Hopefully, they have cute, fit women as employees. I don't think I'd be able to rub one out after being processed by Jabba the Hutt wearing too much makeup because she thinks it could possibly make her look more attractive, but it doesn't, it just makes her look that much worse, because nobody can pull off rainbow eye shadow. And her friends and colleagues don't have the heart to tell her that it just ain't working, so they don't have to listen to her whine in that out of breath way she talks because she's so fat that she gets exhausted after moving 2 inches, and tries to cover up her sweat soaked stench with Eau de Puke and Shit smelling garbage, all while masquerading as a health care worker that doesn't take care of herself because she doesn't believe she should set a good example for her patients.

Looking forward to days off. Have plans to visit daughters, and try some new dash speakers in the scat pack. I had previously changed all 6 speakers, maintaining the factory amp. It sounds fantastic now except I forgot to match the sensitive of the rear speakers with doors and dash. Doors and dash are 84db, rears are 90db. Obviously the sound stage is behind my head now. Not ideal. I found a set of Infinity 3.5" dash speakers that are same rms rating, 3 ohm instead of 4 (factory ones were 2 ohm) and 91db. Rears are 90db, so hoping this fixes issues. BTW, the factory amp only pushes lows to mid/low to doors, so those basically act as subs. Definitely plenty of bass as is. All my friends think I have a hidden sub hidden somewhere in car, ��

Back from trip 1 to Ontario this year... home for 4 nights then back again. Could've stayed but wanted to come home to my own bed/wife/dog for the weekend and the company is paying so fuckem. My new years resolution is to whine less about travel though. I saw an old Louis CK bit about people complaining about air travel like it's the worst thing ever, when 100 years ago that trip would've taken 6 months and half your family would've died :lol: Good perspective. Went into a car audio shop to get some specific connectors I didnt have. While there i noticed a "clearance" bench. Saw some stuff i had been thinning buying in 2022 when I first bought the challenger. Walked out with the stuff. Kenwood 3.5" speakers will be going back in the dash.

that makersplace joint I took that tig welding class last year was offering a laser cutting class, but after describing the bass drum foot pedals I want to cut, the guy said their laser wouldnt cut it there and the best thing for that was 30,000psi water jet cutting. dude even dug up schematics for the pedal and referred me to a place down in New Haven that has a water jet cutter.

I wonder how they fared this weekend, 1-2 inches of rain per day thu-fri-sat-sun....on top of that snow....
finally got my best friend to do a proper roast and make real gravy, he and his family were mesmerized with their trip to flavor country :lol:
5lb bone in strip roast with a good sized fat cap (if you're doing a roast, you want the fat cap)
score up fat, garlic salt, salt, pepper, cumin (in copious amounts, most of it falls off, so coat the sumbich good)
roast to 115 at 325
yes I said 115, now take it out of the oven, cover it up with foil and leave it for an hour!
now for gravy
take the roast pan, on med-high heat, add like 3 cups of water, deglaze and get all the stuff off the pan and into your gravy-to-be
pour into saucepan
taste test, hopefully its good and strong (fat cap!) and you can add some more water so that you have enough gravy for leftovers (if its not strong enough, add bouillon...or do both if you simply want moar gravies)
take your whisked flourwater mix and slowly add until thickness is proper (turns into pudding if you add too much)
let that cook for 5-10 min otherwise the gravy will taste floury
recommended cut size 1/4"
the fat on the top of that is like fkn candy
most people dont think strip roast when they think roast beef, but trust and believe, the strip is the absolute best cut for it, and you have to have the bone in. gravy implications as well as roasting implications. with the bone in you dont really need to put a grate in the bottom of the roast pan. and you get a couple short ribs to gnaw on as well! little extra cutting and you need a boning knoife to remove the roast from the bone.

So that gives me a maximum of a couple weeks to get 80+ properties opened and ready to go. Typically we ease into it as the rentals don't really start rolling in until May.

Went to the doctor for my shoulder yesterday, he said he thinks it's bicep tendonitis. Gave me some exercises to do for it and a topical anti-inflammatory cream to rub on it. I already have a scheduled appointment with him next month, and he said if it doesn't get any better, he'll give me a cortisone shot.

Long story long, I had a really good year at work last year. Won some big deals, exceeded targets, got some projects across internally and great reviews from my clients and colleagues. The trouble started because my boss last year is an SVP (and a prick), and I was two levels below him, while all his other direct reports were only one layer below. So when it came time to do annual reviews, I was evaluated against the management tier above mine which is a disadvantage. Leaders rank reports from 1-4, so 1 is bad, a 2 is 'successful' (HR wants ~70% of the company at 2 as the average). A few people get 3 in each dept (and I'll concede I worked with some great folks, but they were all a rank above already), and a handful in the entire company get a 4. I was thinking I was a lock for a 3 especially after winning a particularly massive deal, and knowing what I'd done to get 3's and 4's.... but nope, a 2. I got a promotion in December and my boss for the year thought that was reward enough. My new boss was horrified but HR refused to change it. I'll still get a bonus and honestly my new boss is so much better I'd have taken a pay cut to work for her... but it's a massive, corporate-politics fuck-you. I'm most irritated that I spent half my life last year on planes and airports, sacrificing an insane amount of personal time to get the job done well, and they labeled my year 'satisfactory.'
I won't sit around feeling sorry for myself long because ultimately I've got a cushy job, and I'm driven to keep going and not be some pussy quitter over taking an L, but it stings right now.

I'm hoiking interstate back to Melbourne. I took the mountain route for the beautiful views and I've pulled into Ararat late. Only shitty fast food open of course. Went into McDonald's and typed in my order for a chicken burger with bacon and cheese medium meal. $17.50 . Laughed walked out. Went down to KFC and got a similar meal for $16, and includes 2 extra pieces of chicken, chunkier chips, much more chicken in the burger, an extra side salad and an actual can of drink instead of the watery gruel.

I guess I should have noticed because I was getting more money in my paycheck, but I didn't look into it further. So they take 95% of the blame for fucking it up without me telling the m to change anything and I take 5% for not looking into it more.

The last few times I've stopped at Walmart, all the self-checkouts were closed and there were only cashier manned ones available. I am a big proponent of self-checkout because it's faster and I can bag my groceries the way I want. Plus, I don't need to interact with people which is the biggest plus. So now the checkout time has tripled on my last 2 visits (from 5 minutes or less to 15 minutes both times I had to go to a manned register to check out). Well, after one of my recent visits I got the chance to fill out an email survey about my last visit and I bitched about the self-checkouts being closed and I actually got a response.

personally it depends what I've got in my cart, or how much of a rush I'm in. if I'm in a grocery store and I've got vegetables, fuck looking all that crap up :lol:

Hilarious. I had a full trolley full of supermarkets goods this evening and I had to check it out myself. Hated it.

At most of the grocery stores here, the produce all have stickers with barcodes on them that the checkout can read, so it's not a big deal.

I can still do it faster even if I have a cart filled with groceries. Not to mention that they only have 3 or 4 manned lanes open while the bank of self-checkouts had 10 stations. Although I am sure that theft at self-checkout is an issue.

my grocery store has this fkn scale on it and it knows how much items weigh, you're under surveilance to the point where if you have 3 of the same item and scan the one with the good bar code and toss the shitty bar coded one onto the scanned items, it fkn knows.
superlatively annoying, this is the real thing that makes me not use these damned checkouts. you cant just scan and toss, you have to scan slowly, wait for verification, cant scan next item too quickly...its a load of shit

Boys... got the 8-week ultrasound today and we have liftoff! There's a tiny little heartbeat and the radiologist confirmed everything looks good so far!!
My wife's been exhausted and dealing with some morning sickness, but other than some anxiety waiting for the ultrasound (she's been a bit stressed since the last pregnancy miscarried), she's doing awesome.
Still not going to tell family/friends for a few more weeks but the vibes are very, very high. I wasn't sure how I'd feel before the ultrasound but my face literally hurts from smiling like an idiot all afternoon and my wife is on cloud 9. Can't wait to tell my parents they're going to be grandparents.

Got the amp installed in car. Still need to make a board to mount amp and secure/hide wiring. Had some issues with the DSP. My fault. Waiting on a USB mic so I can use rew to sweep each speaker to help set dsp/EQ. Very much worth it though. Even the basic setup i have in it now sound way better than original. Also have some slight wiring issues with the t harness that plugs into the Harnett used to go to factory amp. Have to cut and solder 4 wires to get calls to work through speakers.

I've got a similar mic that goes with my real time analyzer, they are very flat response for measurement purposes, got a nice little correction unit for my krk rokits - you run the app and it sends some tones around the room, couple mic placements and it decides what frequencies to boost or retard
the dsp correction will help tone down the naturally resonant frequencies of the car so that the overall response is more flat and the car's acoustic bump is not as prevalent - its a bit more complex in a room as opposed to a car
if you play a sine wave sweep in your car, you'll likely hear a bass bump or two in there as the resonant frequencies of your car are passed by

Pretty much what FBD posted.
You use a microphone plugged into device (in my case a laptop). Setup the mic calibration, then use software to record what frequencies your speaker is playing. It will show any spikes, dips and resonance due to sound wave length versus physical dimensions of car or room. Itll show any physically blockage in soundw ave too. Ill be using the free Room EQ Wizard as my software. REW also has a decent pink noise generator I can use to set the sound stage of each speaker. Soubd stage is where you perceive the sound coming from. If you've ever been in a room with a well setup surround system, you'll notice it sounds best from pretty much one location.
Eversource sent me some survey, in it was a question about what they could do to improve aside from pricing :lol:

Yeah, YouTube has gotten bad. Every single video I watch now has at least 3 ads at beginning.
