uh, gone how? where? Does your system recognize the drive as such and with the correct size? If yes, you may be able to retrieve most of the files with a rescue software like FileScavenger (worked a charm with a fucked up Raid = for me once).

maybe you should stop working on the faulty drive right now, remove it from the box and install windows and the bare essentials on a spare if you have one. then you can always set the faulty disk as a secondary internal or put it into an external enclosure and try to recover the files that way.

I don't have an external HD. Im a poor student afterall. After this, I might use my bet winnings better to purchase an external just for back-up purposes.

Recovering lost data works for as long as the stuff doesn't get overwritten. In format, usually the partition tables and such get overwritten, but not the actual data. For as long as the data in there is not overwritten with bazillions of zeros, one can salvage something. However, I was not able to as my data partition did not format to anything from RAW. Needed to get to NTFS.

After hours and hours of playing with DiskTest, which is an awesome too btw, I changed my disks geometry to fix fucked up headers and cylinders and recovered lost partitions and rebuilt partition tables and boot sector. Now it seems I just might have gotten things to work, but all and every last drop of data is gone. Ohwell... I will have to order a new HD anyway, cuz I don't trust this one anymore. Even if it works now, it can go kaputt any minute Im sure.

Windows itself was not able to do anything to the partitions. It tried to format, but could not finish it. "Error 0x800xxx" can't remember the whole number kept popping up, along with "Can't format bla bla bla". So that rendered it unusable. Had to dig in way deep with DiskTest. I tried Windows' own Diskpart tool, but that thing is way too difficult to use in panic. :lol: Anyway... I now have the disk in two parts, but my Windows parition is now 550 Gigs :D And data is like 200 Gigs. :P Should be the other way around, but as of now.. Im afraid to touch them. Not until I get a new HD anyway. :lol:

Not stable at all, and it's not what was in the picture when I placed the order. This is like what I used back in '92 when I first got paralyzed.

The worst part about it is that I can't put the old one back together and send this new one back. Rust damaged the screws and joints of the old one and it's unrepairable.

Crammed in my dad's vehicle with my parents, uncle and grandmother. We went across town to my cousins' for Father's Day dinner.

Took us two hours to do a 35 minute drive because traffic was so fucked by construction on one of the big bridges. Everyone else in the car whined about something all the way home. I'm exhausted :lol:
