This lovely cashier at the Home Depot checkout accused me of trying to steal a piece of wood that whoever organizes the displays stuck in a huge 10'x10' rug to keep it standing upright on the shelf... in front of a line of people she said "there's something in there... you have to pay for this, I've never seen this before and we sell this". Not only did I not notice there was anything inside the rolled-up rug (as there actually was in all of the other rugs on that display), but how is it my job to know what isn't included. Once she snatched it away, the fucking thing folded in half and she didn't even offer service to help me out to my car. She was too busy looking in the smaller rug my girlfriend was carrying for other stolen twigs :|

Maybe where you are...I was building a deck and did the footings from a local place called Rona (GF will know this place). Hardly any major knots, treatment soaked right into the wood. I didn't return one solitary piece.

For the rails I waited a year because I couldn't afford to do it all in 1 go...so completed it with Home Depot lumber. Lots of knots and the wood wasn't "true", and had to return a lot because of rotting and untreated lumber where the treatment hadn't soaked into the wood right, the wood wouldn't unbow the right way, etc.

Now, 3 years in, the footings are as solid as anything still, but at the ends of the Home Depot wood there's more "cracking" it looks like.

I went cheap and got what I paid for...

A couple of contractor friends of mine don't shop Home Depot unless there's something specific they know they have...they say it's like Costco is for "bargains" ...there is good stuff and bad there - you have to know which is which though!

I like Rona (used to be Revelstoke or Revy) because they actually hire experts who know what they're doing. A guy named Greg and I basically planned my deck, because he sat down with my rough drawings and told me what could and couldn't be done, the pitfalls etc. That kind of service I'll pay more for.

There are different grade lumber out there.. I recently had a fence built and you can tell the 8 foot sections were a higher grade lumber than the lower sections.

There is an actual grade rating system out there ( I dont know what it is though) Typically higher grade lumber costs more.

Two people have told me my left rear brake lights are out. Today at work I had a coworker put the car in gear, apply brakes and yes, rear left is out.

I have 5 bulbs in the assembly, it will be one of the upper 2. They are both dual filament light bulbs and I can't tell which one is burnt, even after yanking them out. I have 1 new brake light bulb.....
