Ever wonder why cashews are so expensive? In their raw state, these delectable nuts are encased in a chemical called urushiol, the very same element found in poison ivy and poison oak that makes human skin burn and itch upon contact. It is quite a tedious process to convert cashews from the tree to one of the stacks of bags balancing on street vendors’ heads – and much of this strenuous work is still done by hand in Central America.

The process:



Cashew fruits are harvested from the trees, with nuts hanging from the bottom, and separated
Seeds are carefully dried
Wearing gloves and protective eye masks, shells are separated from the seeds and the caustic liquid inside is removed by: steaming, burning, boiling, soaking, cracking and peeling. (interesting side note: the harmful oils and solids inside are often sold for use in industrial paints, lacquers, varnishes and even car brake linings)
Seeds are cleaned and roasted
Cashews are bagged up, and ready to eat!



Go to any farmers market in Nicaragua and certain areas of Costa Rica, and you’ll find pounds and pounds of golden, unsalted cashew nuts – shelled, baked and ready to be eaten.

So the next time you shy away from the price tag on a bag of nuts, just remember how much arduous - and often risky - work was involved in bringing it from the farm to your fingertips.

Cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) is extremely flammable, producing explosions when burned. Fumes can burn the eyes, so extreme caution must be taken during this step of processing.

Raw cashews are purchased for the cashew apple attached to the other end - a slightly acidic red and yellow fruit that is used in a variety of sweet treats like juices, jams and chutneys.

I would guess it's around 3 or maybe 4 years old

I know fuck all about pc's so took it to the shop where I bought it from as my fan was fuckered and it needed a good clean out and looked like the old dust had left it's mark

Had it back on Weds afternoon with the shop saying they had installed a new fan

When I woke up Thursday it had rebooted then it crashed a few times so did a scan in safe mode and all was well so I then rebooted for the 15th time with the last time it worked mode after pressing F8 and this is now where I'm at

Don't wanna go to bed now as I know what will be welcoming me when I wake up

You really should dust it out every month on your own if you have a vacuum to do it with (attachments... don't let it touch the components, just get as close as you can). You probably would do well to format it and reinstall what you need. It'd be good to rebuild the registry. Too much shit getting installed in the registry clutters everything up over time. You don't do it intentionally, it just happens. If BSODing, check the integrity of your hard drive. You might have some bad or failing sectors, in which case, I would say replace the hard drive. A 4 year old computer shouldn't be giving you problems.

I hate that. You got a warranty on something and it lasts just as long as the warranty is in effect. That's one of the reason's I do shit myself. I don't like being held hostage by repair people and the jackasses that send them out. It's a con-job.

I am thinking a few things at the end of this day.

First, it is amazing that the train hitting a gas tanker, causing an explosion and leading to homes being evacuated in the middle for the night resulted in no fatalities. Unbelievable.

Second, I am ashamed of myself for letting an employee at walmart get under my skin tonight. I kept my cool, but am not proud of myself for arguing with her. It is like when you get into an argument with a 3 year old. You will never win because they don't have the mental capacity to reason. I left wondering how she could have a job there, but then I decided that she is exactly where she needs to be. Midnight cashier at a Podunk walmart. Good for her.

Lastly, hell yeah, it's officially Friday.

I just love this place and all of its wild life, last night I went outside and found a hedgehog (none squished) outside my front door, tonight it was frogs, mummy and baby, the smallest little frog I've ever seen, awwwe., and a few weeks ago there was a great crested newt out there, I feel quite privileged to be able to live amongst all this wildlife right on my door step.... literally.
