Technically speaking pizza is a pie. Some people will argue and say flatbread, but whatever. Chicago just takes it a step further into the direction of pie-dom. Anyway it's really interesting that the cheese is on the bottom and the sauce and toppings are on top of the Chicago deep dish. That's the reverse of a typical NY style and other styles of pizza: they usually go, from bottom to top, crust, sauce, then cheese and toppings.
