I don't really understand all the health warnings on cigarette packs now. Like, pictures of ruined lungs and the such. Surely they're all in it to make a profit, so how is it at all beneficial the company? Are they just hoping people are so addicted that they're not willing to heed the warning?

I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

There is quite a lot you can do to reduce any further damage. Eat a lot of tomatoes, salmon, mixture of fruit, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts & pulses. Drink green tea & exercise regularly.

Lung damage from smoking cannot be reversed. Exercise can improve capacity but the damage caused by smoking will set the boundary for any progress. That's why they cannot do a lot for these old time smokers with COPD, other than give them meds to dilate their air passages and oxygen to reduce the stress on their system.

I can only wonder how much they suffer.

I can still roll around. I'm rolling on a rim right now. It's probably no good for it. Right now, I don't know what else to do. I guess I can see if I can acquire some tie straps and do it the hard way, but I gotta get them from a hardware store, and this wasn't exactly the easiest thing to do with the easier tire tool. I've got another chair with pneumatics on those wheels, but I haven't used it in years and there's no telling if the tubes are any good.

Actually, I just found a vice tool that can be used and a video to go along with it...

I've got my Dad's vice out in the garage. I think he had one out there. Or I could always take an unscheduled trip down to my sister's place and drop it in my brother-in-law's lap. I hate putting him on the spot like that though. And I'd have to eat my sister's health-nazi cooking... it's like a rule whenever I visit I have to eat the horrid concoctions she comes up with. I can only take it so many times in a year. I'm not sure it's worth it. Anyway, I can get that tool for less than $25 off of several websites. Of course, I'll probably have to wait for it, so I'll probably have to switch out the old wheels and see if I can't pump up those pneumatic tires...

For Drano, I guess it's an Illinois thing... thanks Obama.

Illinois has a new law that took effect on January 1 (2012) requiring all people who purchase drain cleaners or any caustic substances to provide a government issued photo ID. And retailers now must ask for identification from those buying drain cleaners and maintain extensive records of which caustic products have been purchased, in what amounts, and by whom.

The law came about after two Illinois women were burned by acid attacks back in 2008. One of the women later admitted to burning herself with acid, but the law was still pushed through the system.

You might be able to get it with a couple screwdrivers and some muscle. Is silicone spray recommended? I would think that would make the tire spin on the rim. We often use soapy water or window cleaner for similar stuff at work.

When it comes to all things technology, my boss is pretty much an idiot. So, his PC died yesterday (luckily he is out of town) and I am getting his new PC ready (installing software, updates, transferring files, etc) and when he comes in it will be all kinds of questions and problems because his old PC was the last one in the shop running XP and the new one is Win7....and he doesn't do well with change or new-ness :|

from XP to 7 ....and that's not a mild change

I mean it's straightforward enough and you can use it, but I recall not liking a whole bunch of things when I first used 7

Yeah, it's gonna be awesome....every 60 seconds he'll be bugging me about "where is this" or "why is this different" or "this isn't working"...I can't wait :|

:suicide:

You might be able to get it with a couple screwdrivers and some muscle. Is silicone spray recommended? I would think that would make the tire spin on the rim. We often use soapy water or window cleaner for similar stuff at work.

I live and die by silicone spray when it comes to doing wheelchair stuff.

I don't know about the screwdriver method. I tried it before and my shoulder was screaming in pain for a few days after. I'm sure it works for people who stand up, but I was gonna try this dude's method:

And oddly enough, I can't find my tire pump to pump up the tires on the other rims I have. When it rains, it pours.

DGX can you get solid body wheels for chairs? As in, no air?

The tires I'm trying to get on are airless. Solid urethane/rubber. To get wheels with solid tires already installed would be cost prohibitive.

I gotta go find that tire pump... rolling around on one tire and a rim.

up here you'd probably have to get a duplicate winter set

(no joke, I bought cheap winter tires and they were 900 bucks..)

I wouldn't doubt it. The medical supply industry is ruthless. If they can find a way to make a buck or two, they'll charge you $500 on top of it.

I have never seen winter wheelchair tires. But I have slipped around in a wheelchair on ice... on a sharp decline angled sidewalk... going towards a busy 4-way intersection. Talk about fun!

That's what I was thinking about...I'm driving a thousand pound car with winter treads and slide when I tap my brakes going downhill at 20 kph..and the grade is like 15 degrees
Must be brutal for people in chairs when they hit hills in winter weather...

I had a migraine last night that would have dropped an elephant, then I threw up :)

(I'm blaming it on the McDonalds caesar salad..seemed dodgy)

No it will have just been the migraine, I'm always sick with those, glad I don't get so many of them now, just shed loads of headaches instead.
