So I go to my fave Photography forum and see a kind-of snobbish post about outrage of someone buying an expensive camera and just shooting photos of cats. :shrug:

The tone is getting serious, and some serious outrage is being levelled "how could they waste such an expensive camera", "a misuse of something meant for something else". I wanted to lighten things up a bit, and I remembered an event from my past...I'll share it all with you as you might find it amusing (it's absolutely true):


This "mis-use" of equipment makes me remember when my dad sold our travel trailer. He winterized it and made it so it was toasty warm inside even when the mercury dipped below freezing and put this prominently in the trailer's ad in the paper.

We lived in it for 2 years when circumstances dictated us travelling across the country, so it meant a fair lot to our family. We spent a major chunk of our lives living in there.

A guy comes and buys it and after the money changed hands, my dad asks what is he going to use it for as it's pretty late in the season, thinking he might just store it or whatever. The gentleman hesitates, grins and says "I'm taking it to Alaska and using it as a mobile brothel for the miners up there. It'll pay for itself in a few weeks!"

We sold our beloved trailer to a pimp... :)

You can write a program to respond to keystrokes on computers, and pretty much get it to do anything you want, but you have to install the script on the computer you wish to execute it on. That's the basic premise of a trojan. Unless they're dumb enough to click on an exe in an email, you'd pretty much have to go all Mission: Impossible to get it on the dude's computer.

I'm just getting started on a free online Electrical Engineering Linear Circuits course from Georgia Tech. It's just the first week and we're reviewing basic Electromagnetism theory as presented in a Calculus-based introductory Physics course. So right now, we're just going over things like Coulomb's Law, charge and current, electric fields, the basic notion of charged electrons and protons and how they interact on each other in a system, reference directions for charge and current, power and energy, the conservation of energy, reference directions for current and voltage, and basic circuit diagrams. From what I can remember from 17 years ago, some of this stuff gave me hell, but it seems ridiculously easy now. It could be that 17 years ago, I was juggling 3 girlfriends at the same time, and I was kind of distracted back in the day.

Had two lunch meetings to go over options with Deputy Chief, first one was cancelled as I arrived at the meeting so he could go to the PGA, second one he invited a bunch of friends to the bar for 2.5 hours of me missing work with no discussion of the topic. Submitted three options by email, no reply, submitted two more options, no reply.
Got a text to meet for lunch yesterday with Chief and Captain to go over changes they made to the list, they could not find all five option list I submitted,, Told them to blow me,

They now want me to finish scheduling and vendor/manufacture shit to complete the order.

I told them to fuck off, I'm done playing stupid fucking games..

Actually brings to mind a meeting the guys called years ago about our secretary in the VFD. Seems they were upset that she didn't make very many calls, but was always there for fundraisers, etc. I let them yammer on for a while them asked them who would do the work she did if they felt she wasn't holding up her end. Strangely enough, nobody volunteered. :lol: I always figured if a person was wiling to volunteer their time in the FD, no matter in what capacity, I'd let them. That said, I also didn't let her work the hose or pumpers as she missed too much training.

In the lecture, he used dark circles. I looked at the problems in the homework and the lines are connected but there are no dark circles, so I'm assuming they aren't junctions. There's two questions with diagrams like that, and I answer the first one correctly. When you answer correctly, as part of their feedback system, they give a justification for the answer that you got correct. They talked about how there was a short circuit, yet I was assuming the short circuit loop wasn't connected at all. I got lucky.

This is horrible, but this was basically the circuit. The voltage source leading to a resistor which leads to a dual resistor loop with a wire bisecting, then a single wire leading back to the voltage source. It asked to choose one of out of four circuits that were analogous to this one. The answer was a loop with the first Resistor, but not the short circuit resistor loop.

I kinda see what you did there, but without seeing the actual circuit and the choices, hard to tell. To me, only the first resistor is doing anything, as the two in parallel (with the short between/across them) does nothing. I dunno, may be reading too much into it.

No, you're right. The correct circuit was the voltage source going to the first resistor, and then the wire looped back to the voltage source. The resistor loop was missing. Because of the short circuit, the resistor loop is rendered null and void (no current will go through it), so the analogous circuit would look like this, only less horrible:

So yeah, I'm in this Python programming free online class and we have a programming assignment due next week. I take a good hard look at it last night for the very first time and decide just to pound it out. One hour later I'm done. There's like 6 or 7 problems that ask for code, and on every one except one, I accomplish the required task with one line of code no more than 40 characters long. The one that needed more required an entire function definition that takes about 18 lines of code. Regardless, this first programming assignment is ridiculously easy. So I submit my code online, the autograder spits out a perfect score, and I decide to check the course forums to see how everybody else is doing. People must be complete idiots because there's gotta be like 500 threads complaining about how hard it is. The people that said earlier that math didn't matter and told me I was a piece of crap are all fucking it up and whining like no tomorrow.

This may be cruel, but I have to say, I like watching the fallout from stupidity.
